2) Set blower/fan on high speed. Close doors and windows.
Insert thermometer in center vent. Operate system for 20 minutes to
allow system to stabilize. Measure temperature.
3) Discharge air temperature must be 37-44
F (3-7C) at
center vent, with high side and low side pressures within
specification. See A/C SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS table at beginning of
article.
A/C CONTROL UNIT (ACCU)
1) Locate A/C Control Unit (ACCU) on top of evaporator case
and disconnect 10-pin connector. Inspect connector and wiring for
damage. Turn ignition and A/C on. Set temperature control to maximum
cooling and blower switch to high. Using a DVOM set to appropriate
test function, inspect harness side of connector. See Fig. 3. Go to
next step. If all test readings are as specified, replace ACCU.
2) Terminal No. 1 (Green/Yellow wire) is ACCU output. With
A/C and blower motor on, battery voltage should be present when ACCU
has received signals from pressure and temperature sensors confirming
A/C operation is okay.
3) Terminal No. 3 (Green/Blue wire) is ACCU power supply whe\
n
A/C switch is in A/C mode. With ignition and blower on, and A/C switch
at second level setting, battery voltage should be present.
4) Terminal No. 5 (Green/Red wire) is ACCU power supply when\
A/C switch is in ECONO mode. With ignition and blower on, and A/C
switch at first level setting, battery voltage should be present.
Terminals No. 2 and 7 (Black wire) are ACCU grounds. There should be
zero volts at all times.
5) Turn ignition off. Reconnect 10-pin connector. Turn
ignition on. Turn A/C on. Set temperature control to maximum cooling
and blower switch to high. Backprobe 10-pin connector. Go to next
step. If all test readings are as specified, replace ACCU.
6) Terminal No. 10 (Blue/White wire) is air thermosensor
power supply. With ignition, blower and A/C on, approximately 5.5
volts should be present.
7) Terminal No. 8 (Blue/Yellow wire) is air thermosensor
signal. When temperature of evaporator outlet portion is 77
F (25C),
there should be approximately 3.6 volts present.
8) Terminal No. 4 (White/Blue wire) is air inlet sensor powe\
r
supply. With ignition, blower and A/C on, approximately 5.5 volts
should be present.
9) Terminal No. 9 (Yellow/Green wire) is air inlet sensor
signal. When temperature of evaporator outlet portion is 77
F (25C),
there should be approximately 1.5 volts present.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Anti-Lock Brake Safety Precautions
* PLEASE READ THIS FIRST *
This article is intended for general information purposes
only. This information may not apply to all makes and models. If
vehicle is equipped with Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), refer to
appropriate ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM article in the BRAKES section for
description, operation, depressurizing, testing, system bleeding,
trouble shooting and servicing of specific system.
WARNING: Failure to depressurize ABS could lead to physical injury.
ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Failure to depressurize ABS could lead to physical injury.
* NEVER open a bleeder valve or loosen a hydraulic line
while ABS is pressurized.
* NEVER disconnect or reconnect any electrical connectors
while ignition is on. Damage to ABS control unit may result.
* DO NOT attempt to bleed hyudarulic system without first
referring to the appropriate ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM article
in the BRAKES section.
* Only use specially designed brake hoses/lines on ABS equipped
vehicles.
* DO NOT tap on speed sensor components (sensor, sensor rings).
Sensor rings must be pressed into hubs, NOT hammered into
hubs. Striking these components can cause demagnetization or
a loss of polarization, affecting the accuracy of the speed
signal returning to the ABS control unit.
* DO NOT mix tire sizes. Increasing the width, as long as tires
remain close to the original diameter, is acceptable. Rolling
diameter must be identical for all 4 tires. Some
manufacturers recommend tires of the same brand, style and
type. Failure to follow this precaution may cause inaccurate
wheel speed readings.
* DO NOT contaminate speed sensor components with grease. Only
use recommended coating, when system calls for an
anti-corrosion coating.
* When speed sensor components have been removed, ALWAYS check
sensor-to-ring air gaps when applicable. These specifications
can be found in each appropriate article.
* ONLY use rocommended brake fluids. DO NOT use silicone brake
fluids in an ABS equipped vehicle.
* When instlling transmittion devices (CB's, telephones, etc.)
on ABS equipped vehicles, DO NOT locate the antenna near the
ABS control unit (or any control unit).
* Disconnect all on-board computers, when using electric
welding equipment.
* DO NOT expose the ABS control unit to prolonged periods of
high heat (185
F/85C for 2 hours is generally considered a
maximum limit).

DESCRIPTION
CAUTION: See ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS article in GENERAL

The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) is designed to prevent wheel\
lock-up during heavy braking. This allows operator to maintain
steering control while stopping vehicle in shortest distance possible.
Major components are a hydraulic unit, wheel speed sensors, "G"
sensor, ABS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) and ANTI-LOCK warning light.\
ABS has a self-diagnostic system to indicate a system malfunction and
for use in system trouble shooting.
OPERATION
Each wheel sensor sends an AC electrical signal to the ECU.
The ECU reads this information as wheel speed. When any decelerating
wheel speed rate is determined to be excessive in comparison to other
monitored wheels, the hydraulic unit cycles hydraulic brake pressure
to each wheel to equalize speed of all wheels. ABS turns itself off
when vehicle drops to 4 MPH. Minor lock-up may occur at this point.
With engine running and vehicle speed greater than 4 MPH,
pump motor will operate for a short period of time and may be heard
inside vehicle. During pump motor operation, ABS system is completing
a self-check. During ABS system operation, a pulsing brake pedal and
vibration in steering wheel and vehicle body may be experienced. These
conditions are normal.
BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM
BLEEDING PROCEDURES
CAUTION: When adding brake fluid, ensure filter is properly fitted on
reservoir tank.
ABS system is bled using conventional method. With engine
running, manually bleed system using an assistant. For bleeding order,
see BRAKE LINE BLEEDING SEQUENCE table. Ensure Load Sensing
Proportioning Valve (LSPV) is bled in sequence. Remove all air from
brake system. Refill brake fluid reservoir after bleeding procedure is
complete.

7) Inspect condition of toothed rotor. Check for broken or
deformed teeth. If toothed rotor is okay, go to next step.
8) Check ECU connectors. Repair connectors as needed. If
connectors are okay, replace ECU.
DTC 15: WHEEL SPEED SENSOR OUTPUT SIGNAL (ABNORMAL)
NOTE: DTC will set if ECU detects a wheel speed sensor fault other
than an open or short circuit.
1) Ensure sensor is properly installed. See WHEEL SPEED
SENSOR (WSS) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . Correct installation if
needed. If installation is okay, go to next step.
2) Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect ECU connectors.
Using DVOM, backprobe specified ECU connector terminals. See
WHEEL SPEED SENSOR OUTPUT CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION table. See Figs. 5-6.
Check voltage between each harness connector terminal while rotating
wheel at 1/2 to one rotation per second. If pulse voltage is 70 mV or
more, go to step 7). If voltage is not as specified, go to next step.
3) Inspect condition of suspect speed sensor. Ensure tip of
speed sensor is clean. If speed sensor is okay, go to next step.
4) Disconnect sensor connector. Using DVOM, check resistance
across sensor terminals. Resistance for front sensors should be 1170-
1350 ohms. Resistance for rear sensors should be 1300-1500 ohms. If
resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as
specified, replace sensor.
5) Remove sensor. Check resistance between each sensor
terminal and sensor body. If resistance is 100,000 ohms or more, go to
next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace sensor.
6) Inspect condition of toothed rotor. Check for broken or
deformed teeth. If toothed rotor is okay, go to next step.
7) Check ECU connectors. Repair connectors as needed. If
connectors are okay, replace ECU.
DTC 16: ECU POWER SUPPLY
NOTE: DTC will set if ECU power supply voltage is not within
standard value. If voltage returns to normal, DTC will be
erased. Ensure battery is fully charged.
1) Ensure battery voltage is 10-17 volts. Turn ignition off.
Disconnect ECU 26-pin connector. Start engine. Using DVOM, check
voltage between ECU 26-pin connector terminal No. 13 and ground. See
Figs. 5 -6. If battery voltage exists, go to step 3). If battery
voltage do es not exist, go to next step.
2) Check and repair connectors and related wiring between
ignition switch and ECU. See WIRING DIAGRAMS. If connectors and wiring
are okay, check and repair battery or charging system.
3) Check voltage between ECU 26-pin connector terminal No. 26
and ground. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery
voltage does not exist, check and repair connectors and wiring harness
between fusible link and ECU. See WIRING DIAGRAMS.
4) Check and repair ECU connectors. If connectors are okay,
replace ECU.
DTC 21, 22, 23 OR 24: WHEEL SPEED SENSOR (ABNORMAL)
NOTE: DTC sets if wheel speed sensor does not output a signal when
driving, and an open circuit cannot be found.
1) Ensure sensor is properly installed. See WHEEL SPEED
SENSOR (WSS) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . Correct installation if
needed. If installation is okay, go to next step.

SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM
SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS
NOTE: Before testing transmission, ensure fluid level is correct
and throttle and shift cables are properly adjusted. Ensure
engine starts with shift lever in Park and Neutral to ensure
proper adjustment of park/neutral position switch.
Transmission must first be tested by checking for stored
codes. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTC).
TCM monitors transmission operation and contains a self-
diagnostic system which stores a DTC if an electronic control system
failure or problem exists. If a problem exists in any of the solenoids
or speed sensors and a DTC is set, TCM delivers a signal to blink the
ATF TEMP light on instrument panel to warn the driver. DTC may be set
if a failure exists and can be retrieved for transmission diagnosis.
RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTC)
NOTE: Before retrieving DTC, ensure proper battery voltage exists
for proper self-diagnosis system operation. DO NOT disconnect
battery or ECM connectors before retrieving DTC.
Retrieving Codes Using Scan Tool
Ensure ignition switch is in OFF position. Connect scan tool
to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Fig. 5. Turn ignition switch to ON
position. Check for stored DTC and record code(s). See DIAGNOSTIC
TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION table.

NOTE: Operation of radiator and condenser fans is controlled by
vehicle Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Based on vehicle
speed, coolant temperature and A/C operation request, PCM
will command low, medium or high speed fan operation.
3000GT
1) If neither the radiator fan nor the condenser fan operate,
check fusible link No. 5 (40-amp). See WIRING DIAGRAMS. If only the
condenser fan does not operate, check dedicated fuse No. 8 (20-amp).
2) If the condenser fan operates in all speeds except low and
A/C compressor clutch does not enter the ON state, check for A/C
compressor lock controller unit output signal. If the A/C compressor
clutch does enter the ON state, check condenser fan low speed relay
operation.
3) If the radiator fan and the condenser fan operate in all
speeds except high, check PCM. See appropriate G - TESTS W/CODES
article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If fan operation is not as specified,
check wiring harness for opens or shorts. Repair as necessary.

4) To confirm radiator fan or condenser fan operation, see

1) To clear trouble codes, disconnect battery cable, or use
alternative method to prevent memory loss.
2) Turn ignition on. Turn main cruise control switch and SET
switch to ON position, and within one second, turn RES switch to ON
position. Hold stoplight switch and cruise control switch in ON
position for greater than 5 seconds. Verify codes are cleared.
DIAGNOSTIC TESTS
CODE 11: VACUUM PUMP DRIVE SYSTEM
Code 11 is displayed if release valve, control valve and
motor drive signals from vacuum pump are not input to cruise control
ECU. Probable causes are:
* Malfunction of vacuum pump.
* Malfunction of stoplight switch.
* Malfunction of connector.
* Malfunction of harness.
* Malfunction of cruise control ECU.
1) Check vacuum pump. See VACUUM PUMP TEST under COMPONENT
TESTS. If vacuum pump is defective, replace vacuum pump. If vacuum
pump is okay, go to next step.
2) Disconnect cruise control actuator harness connector A-57
or A-95. See Fig. 5. At harness side of connector, check voltage
between terminal No. 1 and ground. If battery voltage is present, go
to next step. If battery voltage is not present, check stoplight
switch. See BRAKELIGHT/STOPLIGHT SWITCH TEST under COMPONENT TESTS.
Replace switch if defective. Check cruise control main switch harness
connector C-01 and stoplight switch harness connector C-55. Repair as
necessary. If malfunction remains, check harness between cruise
control main switch and vacuum pump. Repair as necessary.
3) Disconnect cruise control ECU connector C-50. See Fig. 13.
At harness side of connector, check voltage between ground and
terminals No. 12 (driving release valve), No. 13 (driving control
valve), and No. 26 (driving motor). If battery voltage is present, go\
to next step. If battery voltage is not present, check and repair
connectors A-57 or A-95 and C-111 as necessary. See Figs. 5 and 24. If
malfunction remains, check and repair harness between vacuum pump and
cruise control ECU as necessary.
4) Check cruise control ECU connector C-50. Repair as
necessary. If malfunction remains, replace cruise control ECU.
CODE 12: VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL
Code 12 is displayed if vehicle speed signals from vehicle
speed sensor are not input to cruise control ECU when vehicle speed is
25 MPH or more. Probable causes are:
* Malfunction of VSS.
* Malfunction of connector.
* Malfunction of harness.
* Malfunction of cruise control ECU.
1) Check vehicle speed sensor. See VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR TEST
under COMPONENT TESTS. If speed sensor is okay, go to next step. If
speed sensor is defective, repair or replace as necessary.
2) Disconnect combination meter connector C-06. See Fig. 10.
At harness side of connector, with ignition switch in ON position,
measure voltage between terminal No. 1 and ground. If voltage is 4.5
volts or more, go to next step. If voltage is less than 4.5 volts,
