DTC P1715 Rear Wheel Sensor Circuit Malfunction
(Rear Speed Sensor)
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The rear speed sensor detects the rear wheel speed based on
revolution of the transfer drive gear.
Its construction is the same as that of the front speed sensor
(See page DI−206).
The center differential clutch is controlled by the ECM based on
the signals from the front speed sensor and rear speed sensor
signals.

DTC P1770 Differential Lock Solenoid No. 1 Circuit
Malfunction (Shift Solenoid Valve SLD)
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
Shift solenoid valve SLD controls the oil pressure applied to the
center differential clutch and maintains the limited slip differen-
tial effects at most appropriate level.
The ECM determines optimum control pressure according to
the signals from the throttle position sensor, front and rear
transaxle revolution sensor and control volume of current flow
to the shift solenoid valve.
The amount of current flow to the solenoid valve is controlled
by the duty ratio* of the ECM output signal. The higher the duty
ratio becomes, the higher the center differential control pres-
sure becomes during the center differential control operation.
*: Duty Ratio
The duty ratio is the ratio of the period of continuity in one cycle.
For example, if A is the period of continuity in one cycle, and B
is the period of non−continuity, then

Pattern Select Switch Circuit
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The ECM memory contains the shift programs for the NORMAL and POWER patterns, 2 and L position and
the lock−up patterns. Following the programs corresponding to the signals from the pattern select switch,
the park / neutral position switch and other various sensors, the ECM switches the solenoid valves ON and
OFF, and control the transmission gear change and the lock−up clutch operation.

2. SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL CHECK
(a) Check the speed sensor signal.
(1) Turn the ignition switch OFF.
(2) Using SST, connect terminals Ts and E1 of the
DLC1.
SST 09843−18020
(3) Start the engine.
(4) Check that the ABS warning light blinks.
HINT:
If the ABS warning light does not blink, inspect the ABS warning
light circuit (See page DI−275).
(5) Drive vehicle straight forward.
HINT:
Drive vehicle faster than 45 km/h (28 mph) for several seconds.
(6) Stop the vehicle.
(7) Using SST, connect terminals Tc and E1 of the
DLC1.
SST 09843−18020
(8) Read the number of blinks of the ABS warning light.
HINT:
See the list of DTC shown on the next page.
If every sensor is normal, a normal code is output (A cycle
of 0.25 sec. ON and 0.25 sec. OFF is repeated).
If 2 or more malfunctions are indicated at the same time,
the lowest numbered code will be displayed 1st.
(9) After doing the check, disconnect terminals Ts and
E1, and Tc and E1 of the DLC1, and turn the ignition
switch OFF.
