If you're using a bucket seat, adjust the seat forward until the \
lap portion of
the safety belt holds the restraint firmly. But, don't move it any more than
needed to tighten the lap belt.
To remove the child restraint, unbuckle the vehicle's safety belt \
and let it go
back all the way. The safety belt
will move freely again and be ready to work
for an adult or larger child passenger.

Children who have outgrown child restraints should wear the veh\
icle's safety
belts.
If you have the choice, a child should sit next to a window so \
the child
can wear a lap-shoulder belt and get the additional restraint \
a shoulder belt
can provide.
Children who aren't buckled up can be thrown out in a crash. \

Leaving young children in a vehicle with the ignition key is dangerous
for many reasons.
A child or others could be badly injured or even
killed.
They could operate power windows or other controls or even make
the vehicle move. Don’t leave the keys in a vehicle with young
children.
The ig,nilion keys are for the ignition Only.

Vehicle theft is a big business, especially in some cities. Although your
vehicle has a number of theft deterrent features, we know that nothing we
put on
it can make it impossible to steal. However, there are ways you can
help.
Key in the Ignition:
If you walk away from your vehicle with the keys inside,
it’s an easy target for joy riders or professional thieves-s\
o don’t
do it. when^
you park your vehicle and open the driver’s door, you’ll \
hear a tone reminding
you to remove your key from the ignition and take it with you. Always
do
this. Your steering wheel will be locked, and so will your ignition. If you have
an automatic transmission, taking your key out also locks your \
transmission.
And remember to lock the doors.
Parking at Night: Park in a lighted spot, close all windows and lock your
vehicle. Remember to keep your valuables out of sight. Put them in a storage
area, or take them with you.
Parking Lots:
If you park in a lot where someone will be watching your
vehicle, it’s best to lock it up and take your keys. But what
if you have to
leave your ignition key? What
if you have to leave somethina valuable in vour
vehicle?
Put your valuables in a storage area, like your glove DOX.
Lock the glove box.
Lock all doors except the driver’s.
Then take the door key with you.

Engine exhaust can .kill. It contains the gas carbon monoxide (CO),
which you can’t see or smell. it can muse unconsciousness and
death.
You might have exhaust coming in if:
Your exhaust system sounds strange or different.
0 Your vehicle gets ‘rusty underneath.
* Your vehicle was damaged in a collision.
0 Your vehicle was damaged when driving ove’r high points on the
* Repairs weren’t done correctly.
0 Your vehicle or exhaust system had been modified improperly.

Running Your Engine While You’re Parked
(Automatic Transmission)
It’s better not to park with the engine running. But if you ever have to, here
are some things to know.

Idling the engine with the air system control off could allow
dangerous exhaust into your vehicle. (See the earlier Caution \
under “Engine Exhaust.”)
Also, idling in a closed-in place can let deadly carbon monoxide (CO)
into your vehicle even
if the fan switch is at the highest setting. One
place this can happen is a garage. Exhaust-with CO-can come in
easily.
NEVER park in a garage with the engine running.
Another closed-in place can be a blizzard. (See “Blizzard”\
in the Index.)

(Neutral) or depress your clutch pedal. Press and release the\
4HI switch. You
must wait for the green 4HI indicator light to stop flashing \
and go solid green
before shifting your transmission into gear or releasing the clutch pedal.
If the 4HI switch is pressed wh’en your vehicle is in gear and/or moving, the
green 4H1 indicator light will flash for
30 seconds but not complete the shift
unless the vehicle is below
3 mph and the transmission is in N (Neutral) or
the clutch pedal depressed.
On automatic transmission equipped vehicles:
If your transfer case does not
shift into- 4HI, your transmission indicator switch may require adjustment. With
your transmission in
N (Neutral), press and release the 4HI switch. While the
green 4HI indicator light
is flashing, shift your transmission into P (Park). Wait
until the 4HI indicator light goes solid green before shifting \
your transmission
into gear. This will get you into 4HI, but you should take your vehicle \
in for
service
so normal operation can be restored.
To shift from 4LO to two-wh’eel drive, “lW0 WHEEL”: You must shift from
4LO to 4HI before shifting back into two-wheel drive.
Windows
To open your manual windows, turn the hand crank on each door to raise or
lower your side door windows.
If you have the optional power windows, the co’ntrols are on e\
ach of the side
doors.
The driver’s door has a switch for the passenger windows as\
well. Your
power windows
will only work when the ignition has been turned to Run.

Push the switch down to lower the window.
Push the switch up
to raise the window.
Sliding Rear Window

Your vehicle may have a sliding rear window. Press the top of the latch in
the center
of the window and slide the glass to open it. When you close the
window, be sure the latch catches.
Swhg-Out Windows (Extended Cab)

If your vehicle has rear swing-out windows, just unlatch them at \
their clasps
and push out on the glass to open them.

Windshield Washer

At the top of the multifunction lever there's a paddle with the word PUSH on
it. To spray 'hasher fluid on the windshield, push the paddle.
If you have the standard wipers, the wipers will keep going in LO until you
turn the wiper control to the off symbol.
If you have the Low Speed Delay option, the wipers will clear th\
e window
and then either stop
or return to your pre-set speed.
Driving without washer fluid can be dangerous. A bad mud
