HARNESS Make sure lifts are placed properly.
1. Remove the center console panel (see section 20).
2. Remove the shift cable by removing the cotter pin and
selector lever pin from the selector lever, and mount-
ing bolts from the bracket beam.
3. Remove the shift cable clamps.
4. Remove the shift cable holder and shift cable cover.
5. Remove the shift cable by removing the lock pin and
control lever pin from the control lever.
CAUTION: Take care not to bend the calbe when
removing it.
6. Install the shift cable in the reverse order of removal.
7. Check the cable adjustment on reassembly, on page
14-157.

All SRS wiring harnesses are covered with yellow
outer insulation.Before disconnecting any part of the SRS wire
harness, install the short connectors (see page
23-328).
Replace the entire affected SRS harness assembly if
it has an open circuit or damaged wiring.

Carpet
Replacement
SRS wire harnesses are routed near the carpet. CAUTION:
Remove:

4. Disconnect the air duct (driver's) and air vent, then remove the carpet hooks from the dashboard inside screws.

Component Removal/Installation
Clock and center air vent removal:
NOTE: Take care not to scratch the dashboard and
related parts.
1. Remove the clock by pulling it backward from the center air vent, then disconnect the connector.
2. Remove the center air vent mounting screws.

3. Inset a plastic plate between the center air vent and center console panel to prevent damage them.

NOTE: Make a gap thoroughly.

2. Lower the steering column (see section 17).
To avoid accidental deployment and NOTE:
Remove the access panel, then remove the
short connector (RED). Disconnect the connec-
tor between the airbag and cable reel, then con- nect the short connector (RED) to the airbag
connector.

NOTE: Take care not to scratch or score the dashboard.Do not drop the screws inside the dashboard.
When prying with a flat tip screwdriver, wrap it with protective tape or shop
towel to prevent damage.
