• Thermoswitch operated electric fan. • Pressure oil feed

gear - type
pump and
full
flow
filter.

• Self-adjusting hydraulic valve filters.
• AFC (Airflow controlled) fuel injection.
•
Paper
element air cleaner.
• Exhaust emission control system
with

activated charcoal
filter
in the fuel system.
• Breakerless electronic ignition. • Single plate, dry clutch.
• Synchronized four speed transmission

and'
differential in one housing
with
com­

mon lubrication.
•
Rear
wheel drive,
with
two constant
velocity joints per drive shaft.
Syncro • Hydraulically operated single plate

clutch.

• Baulk synchronised 4-speed manual
transmission
with
additional Low-speed
traction gear (4+L transmission).
• Permanent four-wheel drive through

viscous
coupling.
• Manually operated differential lock for
rear final drive available as optional extra. • Hydrodynamic torque converter an:
planetary gearing

fore have very high quality requirements. transmission fluid (ATF) 3.2 qt/3.0 liters
When replacing a belt, it is not sufficient to Windshield washer container 4.3 qt/4.2 liters
use
just
any belt of the same
size.
For safe
operation, use only Original Volkswagen
Rear
window washer container 1.1 qt/1.0 liters

V-belts
specially designed for your Engine oil

The correct belts can be obtained
with
filter
change 4.8 qt/4.5 liters at your Volkswagen dealership.
without
filter
change 4.2 qt/4.0 liters

Do
not
fill
above "max" mark.
The oil level should be checked while topping up.
Difference between "min" and "max" marks
on the dipsticks is approx. 1 qt/1 liter

through the windshield.
The
safety
compliance
sticker
is
your assurance
that
your new vehicle

all applicable Federal Motor

Vehicle
Safety Standards which were in effect at the
time
the vehicle was manufac­
tured. You can
find
this sticker on the
left
doorjamb. It shows the month and year of
complete and incomplete (campmobile
only) production and the vehicle identifica­

tion
number of your vehicle
(perforation)
as
well as the
Gross
Vehicle
Weight Rating
and the
Gross
Axle Weight Rating. The
Vehicle
Identification
Label

is
located on the
left
side under the
dash­

board.
The label contains the following information:

Type code number

4.
Type designation

5.
Engine and transmission code
letter

6. Paint
no./Interior

7. Optional equipment nos.

Vehicle
