EFI SYSTEM CHECK PROCEDURE

PREPARATION
(a) Disconnect the connectors from the ECU.
(b) Remove the locks as shown in the illustration so that
the tester probe(s) can easily come in.
CAUTION: Pay attention to sections “A” and “B” in
the illustration which can be easily broken,
(c) Reconnect the connectors to the ECU.

NOTE:
0 Perform ail voltage measurements with the connectors
connected.
0 Verify that the battery voltage is 1 IV or above when
the ignition switch is at “ON”.
Using a voltmeter with high-impedance (10 kQ/V mihimum),
measure the voltage at each terminal of the wiring con-
nectors.

OF BATTERY
2. DRAIN GASOLINE FROM FUEL TANK
WARNING: Do not smoke or work near an open
flame when working on the fuel pump.

REMOVE FUEL PUMP BRACKET FROM FUEL TANK
(a) Remove the screws.
(b) Pull out the fuel pump bracket.
REMOVE FUEL PUMP FROM FUEL PUMP BRACKET
(a) Remove the two nuts and disconnect the wires from
the fuel pump.
(b) Pull off the lower side of the fuel pump from the
bracket.
(c) Remove the fuel pump from the fuel hose.

(c) Remove the union bolt, fuel tube and two gaskets.

Remove the two bolts and cold start injector with the
gasket.

Remove the two bolts and cold start injector with the
gasket, and disconnect the cold start injector connector.
INSPECTION OF COLD START INJECTOR

INSPECT RESISTANCE OF COLD START INJECTOR
Using an ohmmeter, check the resistance of the injector.
Resistance: 2 - 4 fi
If the resistance is not as specified, replace the cold start
injector.

INSPECT INJECTION OF COLD START INJECTOR
WARNING: Keep clear of sparks during the test.
(a) Install SST (two unions) to the injector and delivery
pipe with new gaskets and the union bolts.

pipe support (MA) or fuel filter (MS).
(b) Connect SST (hose) to the fuel pipe support (MA) or
fuel filter (MS) outlet with SST (union), new gaskets
and union bolt.

(MS).
(c) Remove the pressure regulator (See page FI-84).
(d) Connect the fuel return hose to the pressure regula-
tor with SST (union), new gasket and union bolt.

Arra,nge the valve lifters and shims in order.
10. REMOVE VALVES
(a) Using SST, press the valve spring and remove the
two keepers.

(b) Remove the-spring retainer, valve spring, seat and
valve.
(c) ‘Pry out the oil seal.
NOTE: Arrange the valves, seats, valve springs and
retainers in order.
INSPECTION, CLEANING AND REPAIR OF
CYLl.NDER HEAD COMPONENTS
1. CLEAN TOP OF; &ONS AND TOP OF CYLINDER

(a) Turn the crankshaft and bring each piston to top
dead center. Using a gasket scraper, remove all the
‘carbon from the piston tops.
(b) Using a gasket scraper, remove all gasket material
from the top of the block. Blow carbon and oil from
the bolt holes.
WARNING: Protect your eyes when using high
pressure air.
2.
REMOVE GASKET MATERIAL
Using a gasket scraper, remove all gasket material from
the head and manifold surfaces.
CAUTION: Be careful not to scratch the surfaces.
