Engine Coolant Temperature
If it illuminates when your vehicleis moving, this indicates that theengine is overheating. Stop yourvehicle as soon as it is safe to do so andswitch the engine off. Have your vehiclechecked as soon as possible. See EngineCoolant Check (page 238).idk
Engine Oil Pressure
If it illuminates with the enginerunning, or when you are driving, this indicates a malfunction.Stop your vehicle as soon as it is safe todo so and switch off the engine. Check theengine oil level.
Note:Do not resume your journey if itilluminates despite the level being correct.Have the system checked as soon aspossible.

Illuminates when you switch onthe high beam headlamps. Itflashes when you use theheadlamp flasher.
Hydromax
If the light illuminates andremains on when the key is in theon position or the engine isrunning, this indicates inadequate hydraulicbooster pressure or reserve pump systemfailure. Stop the vehicle as soon aspossible and have your vehicle checked.
Low Fuel Level
Illuminates when the fuel levelis low or the fuel tank is nearlyempty. Refuel as soon aspossible.
Parking Brake Warning
Briefly illuminates when youswitch the ignition to the onposition, with the engine off. Italso illuminates when you apply theparking brake. If the park brake lamp doesnot illuminate at these times, seekimmediate service. Vehicles with the powerparking brake option: If the park brakewarning lamp begins to blink after settingthe parking brake, this may indicate afailure in the parking brake system. Havethe system checked as soon as possible.Driving extended distances with theparking brake engaged can cause brakefailure and the risk of personal injury.

WHAT IS THE PNEUMATIC
LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL
The pneumatic locking differential can lockor unlock the differential when the vehicleis moving or stopped. The differential lockprovides full power to both wheels whenextra traction is required.
HOW DOES THE PNEUMATIC
LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL
WORK
If your vehicle is equipped with apneumatic locking differential:
•Power is transmitted to the oppositewheel should one of the wheels beginto slip.
•Raise both wheels off the ground if itbecomes necessary to operate onewheel with the vehicle stationary.
The differential can be locked or unlockedwhen the vehicle is moving at a constantspeed of less than 25 mph (40 km/h) andwhile the wheels are not slipping. Do notlock the differential when the vehicle istraveling down steep grades and tractionis minimal.
Note:Do not use the differential lock atvehicle speeds above 25 mph (40 km/h).
When the differential is locked, thevehicle’s turning radius increases causingundersteer.
The differential lock and differential locklight automatically disengage at speedsabove 25 mph (40 km/h). The differentiallock remains off until the vehicle isrestarted or the differential lock switch isturned off then back on.
PNEUMATIC LOCKING
DIFFERENTIAL PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Exceeding any vehicleweight rating can adversely affect theperformance and handling of yourvehicle, cause vehicle damage and canresult in the loss of control of yourvehicle, serious personal injury or death.
WARNING: Failure to raise all drivewheels with this type of differential couldcause the vehicle to move unexpectedly, resulting in property damage, personalinjury or death.
WARNING: Sudden accelerationon slippery surfaces could cause thewheels to spin, the vehicle to turnsideways on a crowned road surface orin a turn, possibly resulting in loss ofvehicle control and personal injury.
SWITCHING THE PNEUMATIC
LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL ON
AND OFF
Press and hold the button on the dash toturn the system on or off.

AXLE INSPECTION
Front Axle
Maintaining the front axle alignment tospecifications is very important. A qualifiedtechnician should check and maintain thealignment.
Regular inspections should include:
•Toe-in inspection and adjustment (ifnecessary), particularly with radialtires.
•Checking for proper tightness of axlemounting U-bolt nuts, attaching ormounting bolts and nuts.
•Checking the axle for damage, binding, worn parts and adequate lubrication.
•Checking the kingpins for excessivewear. Also, perform this check duringother scheduled maintenance, forexample as tire rotation or service, wheel bearing service and alignment.See the workshop manual for properprocedures.
Toe-in
It is essential to maintain correct toe-inand tire pressure for optimum tire wear.
Inspecting steer axle tires in the first3,000–10,000 mi (5,000–16,000 km)generally shows if tires are wearingnormally.
Rapid outside shoulder wear on both tiresindicates too much toe-in.
Rapid inside shoulder wear on both tiresindicates too much toe-out.
In P&D-type service, there can be aleft-to-right steer tire tread life differentialup to 40% depending on routes and othervariables.
Follow the tire manufacturer'srecommended cold inflation pressure forthe tire size, load range (ply rating) andsteer axle loading typical for their operation(each steer axle tire equals ½ steer axleloading).
Special applications may warrant a settingbased on experience with the type of tireoperating loads and conditions. Radial tiresare more sensitive to toe-in setting thanbias ply tires. Fine tuning school busalignment to line-haul truck standardsdoes not drastically improve tire tread life.
STEERING SYSTEM
INSPECTION
WARNING: Failure to maintain thesteering system in proper condition cancause reduced steering ability resultingin property damage, personal injury ordeath.
Note:Have any steering problemsimmediately corrected by a qualified servicetechnician.
Ask your service technician to examine thesteering mechanism. Only minoradjustments may be necessary.
Regular inspections should include:
•Checking the tie rod, drag link endclamp bolts and ball joints for propertightness.
•Checking for installation and spread ofcotter pins and tightness of nuts atboth ends of the tie rod and drag link.
•Checking that the pitman arm (steeringarm at steering gear) mounting is tightand locked. Check system for leaks orhose chafing. Repair immediately, ifnecessary.
