4-5. Using the driving support systems
WARNING
●In some situations, while the pre- collision braking function is operat-
ing, operation of the function may be canceled if the accelerator pedal is depressed strongly or the steer-
ing wheel is turned and the system determines that the driver is taking evasive action.
●If the brake pedal is being depressed, the system may deter-
mine that the driver is taking eva- sive action and possibly delay the operation timing of the pre-collision
braking function.
■Emergency steering assist (for
region A)
●As emergency steering assist oper- ation will be canceled when the sys-
tem determines that lane departure prevention function has been com-pleted.
●Emergency steering assist may not operate or may be cancel in the fol-
lowing cases as the system may determine the driver is taking actions.
• If the accelerator pedal is being depressed strongly, the steering
wheel is being operated sharply, the brake pedal is being depressed or the turn signal lever is being
operated. In this case, the system may determine that the driver is tak-ing evasive action and the emer-
gency steering assist may not operate.
• In some situations, while the emer- gency steering assist is operating, operation of the function may be
canceled if the accelerator pedal is depressed strongly, the steering wheel is operated sharply or the
brake pedal is being depressed and the system determines that the driver is taking evasive action.
• When the emergency steering assist is operating, if the steering wheel is held firmly or is operated in
the opposite direction to that which the system is generating torque, the function may be canceled.
■When to disable the pre-colli-sion system
In the following situations, disable the system, as it may not operate prop-erly, possibly leading to an accident
resulting in death or serious injury:
●When the vehicle is being towed
●When your vehicle is towing another vehicle
●When transporting the vehicle via truck, boat, train or similar means of
transportation
●When the vehicle is raised on a lift
with the hybrid system on and the tires are allowed to rotate freely
●When inspecting the vehicle using a drum tester such as a chassis dynamometer or speedometer tes-
ter, or when using an on vehicle wheel balancer
●When a strong impact is applied to the front bumper or front grille, due to an accident or other reasons
●If the vehicle cannot be driven in a stable manner, such as when the
vehicle has been in an accident or is malfunctioning
●When the vehicle is driven in a sporty manner or off-road
●When the tires are not properly inflated
●When the tires are very worn
●When tires of a size other than
specified are installed
●When tire chains are installed

●If the suspension has been modi-fied or tires of a size other than
specified are installed
●If the front of the vehicle is raised or
lowered due to the carried load
●When equipment that may obstruct
a sensor is installed, such as a tow- ing eyelet, bumper protector (an additional trim strip, etc.), bicycle
carrier, or snow plow

NOTICE
■If “PKSB Unavailable” is dis-played on the multi-information
display and the PKSB OFF indi- cator is on
If this message is displayed immedi-
ately after the power switch is changed to ON, operate the vehicle carefully, paying attention to your sur-
roundings. It may be necessary to drive the vehicle for a certain amount of time before the system returns to
normal. (If the system is not return to normal after driving for a while, clean the sensors and their surrounding
area on the bumpers.)

7-2. Steps to take in an emergency
Use a towing dolly under the front
wheels.
WARNING
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.
■When towing the vehicle
2WD models
Be sure to transport the vehicle with
the front wheels raised or with all four
wheels raised off the ground. If the
vehicle is towed with the front wheels
contacting the ground, the drivetrain
and related parts may be damaged or
electricity generated by the operation
of the motor may cause a fire to occur
depending on the nature of the dam-
age or malfunction.
AWD models
Be sure to transport the vehicle with
all four wheels raised off the ground. If
the vehicle is towed with the tires con-
tacting the ground, the drivetrain or
related parts may be damaged, the
vehicle may fly off the truck, or elec-
tricity generated by the operation of
the motor may cause a fire to occur
depending on the nature of the dam-
age or malfunction.
NOTICE
■To prevent damage to the vehicle when towing using a wheel-lift
type truck
●Vehicles with steering lock function: Do not tow the vehicle from the rear
when the power switch is off. The steering lock mechanism is not strong enough to hold the front
wheels straight.
●When raising the vehicle, ensure
adequate ground clearance for tow- ing at the opposite end of the raised vehicle. Without adequate clear-
ance, the vehicle could be dam- aged while being towed.

7-2. Steps to take in an emergency
When trouble arises
When using a flat-bed truck to
transport the vehicle, use tire strap-
ping belts. Refer to the owner’s
manual of the flat-bed truck for the
tire strapping method.
In order to suppress vehicle move-
ment during transportation, set the
parking brake and turn the power
switch off.
If a tow truck is not available in an
emergency, your vehicle may be
temporarily towed using cables or
chains secured to the emergency
towing eyelets. This should only be
attempted on hard surfaced roads
for short distances at under 30
km/h (18 mph).
A driver must be in the vehicle to
steer and operate the brakes. The
vehicle’s wheels, drivetrain, axles,
steering and brakes must be in
good condition.
To have your vehicle towed by
another vehicle, the towing eyelet
must be installed to your vehicle.
Install the towing eyelet using the
following procedure.
1 Take out the wheel nut wrench
and towing eyelet. ( P. 4 4 9 ,
460)
2 Remove the eyelet cover using
a flathead screwdriver.
To protect the bodywork, place a rag between the screwdriver and the vehi-cle body as shown in the illustration.
