The installation of a mobile two-
way radio system in your vehicle
could affect electronic systems
such as:
Fuel cell system
 Advanced Drive
 Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 +
with Teammate
 Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 +
 Anti-lock brake system
 Vehicle dynamics integrated
management
 SRS airbag system
 Seat belt pretensioner system
Be sure to check with your Toy-
ota dealer for precautionary
measures or special instructions
regarding installation of a mobile
two-way radio system.
High voltage parts and cables
on the fuel cell electric vehicles
emit approximately the same
amount of electromagnetic
waves as the conventional gas-
oline powered vehicles or home
electronic appliances despite of
their electromagnetic shielding.
Unwanted noise may occur in
the reception of the mobile two-
way radio. The vehicle is equipped with
sophisticated computers that will
record certain data, such as:
• Engine speed / Electric motor
speed (traction motor speed)
• Accelerator status
• Brake status
• Vehicle speed
• Operation status of the driving assist systems
• Images from the cameras
Your vehicle is equipped with cam-
eras. Contact your Toyota dealer for
the location of re cording cameras.
The recorded data varies
according to the vehicle grade
level and options with which it is
equipped.
These computers do not record
conversations or sounds, and
only record images outside of
the vehicle in certain situations.
Data Transmission
Your vehicle may transmit the data
recorded in these computers to
Toyota without notification to you.
Data usage
Toyota may use the data recorded
in this computer to diagnose mal-
functions, conduct research and
development, and improve quality.
Toyota will not disclose the
recorded data to a third party
except:
• With the consen t of the vehicle
owner or with the consent of the
lessee if the vehicle is leased

Pop Up Hood
In the event of a frontal col-
lision with a body, such as a
pedestrian, the Pop Up
Hood system raises the
hood to reduce the possibil-
ity of a serious impact to the
pedestrian’s head area by
adding clearance to the fuel
cell unit compartment.
When the sensors located
at the back of the front
bumper detect a frontal
impact with a body, such as
a pedestrian, which meets
or exceeds the threshold
level while the vehicle is
being driven within the
operational speed range,
the system operates.

button, tell the response-center
agent that you are not experiencing
an emergency.
■Enhanced Roadside Assis-
tance
Enhanced Roadside Assistance
adds GPS data to the already
included warranty-based Toyota
roadside service.
Subscribers can press the
“SOS” button to reach a Safety
Connect response-center agent,
who can help with a wide range
of needs, such as: towing, flat
tire, fuel delivery, etc. For a
description of the Roadside
Assistance services and their
limitations, please see the

quency signals before using
Safety Connect;
The Safety Connect system
installed in your vehicle is a low-
power radio transmitter and
receiver. It receives and also
sends out radio frequency (RF)
signals. In August 1996, the Federal
Communications Commission
(FCC) adopted RF exposure
guidelines with safety levels for
mobile wireless phones. Those
guidelines are consistent with
the safety standards previously
set by the following U.S. and
international standards bodies.


Fuel cell system
■Electromagnetic waves (EMF)
●High-voltage parts and cables in
fuel cell electric vehicles have an
electromagnetic shielding configu-
ration, and therefore emit approxi-
mately the same amount of
electromagnetic waves as con-
ventional gasoli ne-powered vehi-
cles or home electronic
appliances.
●Your vehicle may cause sound
interference in so me third party-
produced radio parts.
■Starting the fuel cell system in
an extremely col d environment
When the tracti on battery is extremely cold (below approxi-
mately -22˚F [-30˚C]) under the
influence of outsi
de temperature, it
may not be possible to start the fuel
cell system. In this case, try to start
the fuel cell system again after the
temperature of the traction battery
increases due to the outside tem-
perature increase etc.
■Traction battery
The traction battery has a limited
service life. The lifespan of the trac-
tion battery can change according to
driving style and driving conditions.
■Hydrogen Gas Characteristics
●Hydrogen gas ignites more easily than gasoline, however it is l ight than air
and disperses quickly. The hydrogen system and tank sufficientl y serve as
a counter-measure to prevent gas leaks. However, if by chance there is a
gas leak, the hydrogen gas is rapidly diluted until it is no lo nger flammable.
●As with gasoline and natural gas, hydrogen gas is not dangerous if it is
handled properly. Thoroughly rea d and understand the characteristics
shown in the table below.

The following keys are provided

Mechanical keys

■When riding in an aircraft
When bringing an electronic key
onto an aircraft, make sure you do
not press any buttons on the elec-
tronic key while inside the aircraft
cabin. If you are carrying an elec-
tronic key in your bag, etc., ensure
that the buttons are not likely to be
pressed accidentally. Pressing a
button may cause the electronic key
to emit radio waves that could inter-
fere with the oper ation of the air-
craft.
■Electronic key battery depletion
●The standard battery life is 1 to 2
years.
●If the battery becomes low, an
alarm will sound in the cabin and a
message will be s hown on the
multi-information display when the fuel cell system is stopped.
●To reduce key battery depletion
when the electronic key is to not
be used for long periods of time,
set the electronic key to the bat-
tery-saving mode. (
P.137)
●As the electronic key always
receives radio waves, the battery
will become depleted even if the
electronic key is not used. The fol-
lowing symptoms indicate that the
electronic key battery may be
depleted. Replace the battery
when necessary.
• The smart key system or the wire- less remote contro l does not oper-
ate.
• The detection area becomes smaller.
• The LED indicator on the key sur- face does not turn on.
●To avoid serious deterioration, do
not leave the electronic key within
3 ft. (1 m) of the following electri-
cal appliances that produce a
magnetic field:
•TVs
• Personal computers
• Cellular phones, cordless phones and battery chargers
• Recharging cellular phones or cordless phones
• Table lamps
• Induction cookers

Before driving
approximately 10 days after a new
electronic key has been registered.
If this message is displayed but you
have not had a new electronic key
registered, ask your Toyota dealer to
check if an unknow n electronic key
(other than those in your posses-
sion) has been registered.
The electronic keys are

■Theft deterrent panic mode
When is pressed for longer
than about one second, an alarm
will sound intermittently and the
vehicle lights will flash to deter any
person from trying to break into or
damage your vehicle.
To stop the alarm, press any button
NOTICE
■To prevent key damage
●Do not drop the keys, subject
them to strong shocks, or bend
them.
●Do not expose the keys to high
temperatures for a long period
of time.
●Do not get the keys wet or wash
them in an ultrasonic washer,
etc.
●Do not attach metallic or mag-
netic materials to the keys or
place the keys close to such
materials.
●Do not disassemble the keys.
●Do not attach a sticker or any-
thing else to the surface of the
electronic key.
●Do not place th e keys near
objects that produce magnetic
fields, such as TVs, audio sys-
tems and induction cookers, or
medical electrical equipment,
such as low-frequency therapy
equipment.
■Carrying the electronic key
on your person
Carry the electronic key 3.9 in.
(10 cm) or more away from elec-
tric appliances that are turned on.
Radio waves emitted from electric
appliances within 3.9 in. (10 cm)
of the electronic key may interfere
with the key, causing the key to
not function properly.
■In case of a smart key system
malfunction or other key-
related problems

■Wireless remote control
Press and hold the switch.
A buzzer will sound.
■Trunk grip
Using the trunk grip, pull down
the trunk lid without applying
sideways force and push the
trunk lid down from the outside
to close it.
■Trunk light
●The trunk light turns on when the
trunk is opened.
●If the trunk light is left on when the
power switch is turned off, the light
will go off automat ically after 20
minutes.
■Trunk easy closer (if equipped)
In the event that the trunk lid is left
slightly open, the trunk easy closer
will automatically close it to the fully
closed position.
●The trunk easy closer will operate
regardless of the power switch mode.
●If the trunk easy closer does not
operate, open the trunk to the half
open position or
more and then
close it.
■Function to prevent the trunk
being locked with the electronic
key inside
●When all doors are locked, closing
the trunk lid with the electronic key
left inside the trunk will sound an
alarm.
In this case, the trunk lid can be
opened pressing the trunk release
button on the trunk lid.
●If the spare electronic key is put in
the trunk with all the doors locked,
the key confinement prevention
function is activated so the trunk
can be opened. In order to pre-
vent theft, take all electronic keys
with you when leaving the vehicle.
●If the electronic key is put in the
trunk with all the doors locked, the
key may not be detected depend-
ing on the location of the key and
the surrounding radio wave condi-
tions. In this case, the key con-
finement prevention function
cannot be activated, causing the
doors to lock when the trunk is
closed. Make sure to check where
the key is before closing the trunk.
●The key confinement prevention
function cannot be activated if any
one of the doors i s unlocked. In
this case, open the trunk using the
trunk opener.
■Internal trunk release lever
The trunk lid can b e opened by pull-
ing the glow-in-the-dark lever
located on the inside of the trunk lid
to the side.
The lever will contin ue to glow for
some time after the trunk lid is
closed.
