The indicator light flashes after
the power switch has been
turned off to indicate that the
system is operating.
The indicator light stops flashing
after the power switch has been
turned to ACC or ON to indicate
that the system has been can-
celed.
■System maintenance
The vehicle has a maintenance-free
type immobilizer system.
■Conditions that may cause the
system to malfunction
●If the grip portion of the key is in
contact with a metallic object
●If the key is in close proximity to or
touching a key to the security sys-
tem (key with a built-in transpon-
der chip) of another vehicle
■Certification

Immobilizer system
The vehicle’s keys have
built-in transponder chips
that prevent the fuel cell
system from starting if a key
has not been previously
registered in the vehicle’s
on-board computer.
Never leave the keys inside
the vehicle when you leave
the vehicle.
This system is designed to
help prevent vehicle theft
but does not guarantee
absolute security against all
vehicle thefts.
Operating the system

■To ensure the system oper-
ates correctly
Do not modify or remove the sys-
tem. If modified or removed, the
proper operation of the system
cannot be guaranteed.

For Canada: Unlock the doors
or trunk using the entry func-
tion or wireless remote con-
trol.
 Turn the power switch to ACC
or ON, or start the fuel cell
system. (The alarm will be
deactivated or stopped after a
few seconds.)
■System maintenance
The vehicle has a maintenance-free
type alarm system.
■Triggering of the alarm
The alarm may be triggered in the
following situations:
(Stopping the alarm deactivates the
alarm system.)
●For Canada: The doors are
unlocked using the mechanical
key.
●For Canada: The trunk is opened
using the mechanical key.
●A person inside the vehicle opens
a door, the trunk or hood, or
unlocks the vehicle.
●The 12-volt battery is recharged or
replaced when the vehicle is
locked. ( P.487)
■Alarm-operated door lock
In the following cases, depending
on the situation, the door may auto-
matically lock to prevent improper
entry into the vehicle:
●When a person remaining in the
vehicle unlocks the door and the
alarm is activated.
●While the alarm i s activated, a
person remaining in the vehicle
unlocks the door.
■Customization
Some functions can be customized.

Vehicle status information and indicators
 When the air conditioning sys-
tem is operating, is dis-
played next to the driving
range and this will be the driv-
ing range with the air condi-
tioning system on is
displayed.
■When the low fuel level warning
light turns on
The low fuel level warning light turns
on ( P.460) when the fuel gets low.
In that case, refuel the vehicle.
■Possible Driving Distance
●The actual possible driving dis-
tance may differ as fuel consump-
tion changes, depending on
driving environment (weather, traf-
fic, etc.) and cond itions (sudden
acceleration, air conditioning,
etc.).
●The driving range may shorten
even when not driving due to
power consumption by the sys-
tem.
●The possible driv ing distance will
be displayed as “--- miles (--- km)”
in the following cases:
• When the remaining fuel is being calculated (short time).
• When the remaining fuel total reaches “E”.
• When a malfunction occurs where
the possible drivi ng distance can-
not be calculated.

layer of water between the tires
and the road surface, preventing
the steering and brakes from

Eco-friendly driving may be
achieved more easily by staying
within the zone of Eco acceleration.
Also, by staying w ithin the zone of
Eco acceleration, i t will be easier to
obtain a good Eco score.
●When starting off:
Gradually depress the accelerator
pedal to stay withi n the zone of Eco
acceleration and accelerate to the
desired speed. By refraining from
excessive acceleration, a good eco
start score will be obtained.
●When driving:
After accelerating to the desired
speed, release the accelerator
pedal and drive at a stable speed
while staying within the zone of Eco
acceleration. By staying within the
zone of Eco acceleration, a good
eco cruise score will be obtained.
●When stopping:
By starting to release the accelera-
tor pedal early before decelerating,
a good eco stop score will be
obtained.
■Restraining the fuel cell system
output (Brake Override System)
●When the accelerator and brake
pedals are depressed at the same
time, the fuel cell system output
may be restrained.
●A warning message is displayed
on the multi-information display
while the system is operating.
■Breaking in your new Toyota
To extend the life of the vehicle,
observing the following precautions
is recommended:
●For the first 186 miles (300 km):
Avoid sudden stops.
●For the first 621 miles (1000 km):
• Do not drive at extremely high speeds.
• Avoid sudden acceleration.
• Do not drive continuously in low
gears.
• Do not drive at a constant speed
for extended periods.
■Drum-in-disc type parking
brake system
Your vehicle has a drum-in-disc type
parking brake system. This type of
brake system needs bedding-down
of the brake shoes periodically or
whenever the par king brake shoes
and/or drum are replaced. Have
your Toyota dealer perform the bed-
ding down operation.
■Operating your v ehicle in a for-
eign country
Comply with the relevant vehicle
registration laws and confirm the
availability of the correct fuel.

Failure to do so may result in

■When starting the vehicle
Always keep your foot on the
brake pedal while stopped with
the “READY” indica tor is illumi-
nated. This prevents the vehicle
from creeping.
