
INSTALLING A CHILD RESTRAINT INA CENTER SEAT
WARNING: The standardized spacingfor LATCH lower anchors is 11 in (280 mm)center to center. Do not use LATCH loweranchors for the center seating positionunless the child restraint manufacturer'sinstructions permit and specify usinganchors spaced at least as far apart asthose in this vehicle.
The lower anchors at the center of thesecond row rear seat are spaced 11 in(280 mm) apart. The lower anchors at thecenter of the third row rear seat are spaced19 in (488 mm) apart. The standardizedspacing for LATCH lower anchors is 11 in(280 mm) center to center.
You cannot install a child restraint with rigidLATCH attachments at the center seatingposition. You can only use LATCHcompatible child restraints with attachmentson belt webbing at this seating positionprovided that the child restraintmanufacturer's instructions permit use withthe anchor spacing stated. Do not attach achild restraint to any lower anchor if anotherchild restraint is attached to that anchor.
Each time you use the child restraint, checkthat the seat is properly attached to the loweranchors and tether anchor, if applicable. Tugthe child restraint from side to side andforward and back where it is secured to thevehicle. The seat should move less than 1 in(2.5 cm).
If you did not properly anchor the childrestraint, the risk of a child being injured ina crash greatly increases.
COMBINING THE SEATBELT ANDLOWER ANCHORS FOR ATTACHINGCHILD RESTRAINTS
When used in combination, you may attacheither the seatbelt or the LATCH loweranchors first, provided a proper installationis achieved. Attach the tether strap afterward,if it is included with the child restraint.
USING TETHER STRAPS
Many forward-facing child restraints includea tether strap which extends from the backof the child restraint and hooks to ananchoring point called the top tether anchor.Tether straps are available as an accessoryfor many older child restraints.
Contact the manufacturer of your childrestraint for information about ordering atether strap, or to obtain a longer tether strapif the tether strap on your child restraint doesnot reach the appropriate top tether anchorin the vehicle.

If the booster seat slides on the vehicle seatupon which it is being used, placing arubberized mesh sold as shelf or carpet linerunder the booster seat may improve thiscondition. Do not use any item thicker thanthis under the booster seat. Check with thebooster seat manufacturer's instructions.
CHILD SAFETY LOCKS
WARNING: You cannot open the reardoors from inside if you have put the childsafety locks on.
A child safety lock is on the rear edge ofeach rear door and must be set separatelyfor each door.

Turn it clockwise to switch the child lock onand counterclockwise to switch it off.
Right-Hand Side
Turn it counterclockwise to switch the childlock on and clockwise to switch it off.

SEATBELT PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Always drive and ridewith your seatback upright and the lap beltsnug and low across the hips.
WARNING: Children must always beproperly restrained.
WARNING: Do not allow a passengerto hold a child on their lap when yourvehicle is moving. Failure to follow thisinstruction could result in personal injuryor death in the event of a sudden stop orcrash.
WARNING: All occupants of yourvehicle, including the driver, should alwaysproperly wear their seatbelts, even whenan airbag supplemental restraint system isprovided. Failure to properly wear yourseatbelt could seriously increase the riskof injury or death.
WARNING: It is extremely dangerousto ride in a cargo area, inside or outside ofa vehicle. In a crash, people riding in theseareas are more likely to be seriouslyinjured or killed. Do not allow people toride in any area of your vehicle that is notequipped with seats and seatbelts. Makesure everyone in your vehicle is in a seatand properly using a seatbelt. Failure tofollow this warning could result in seriouspersonal injury or death.
WARNING: In a rollover crash, anunbelted person is significantly more likelyto die than a person wearing a seatbelt.
WARNING: Each seating position inyour vehicle has a specific seatbeltassembly made up of one buckle and onetongue designed to be used as a pair. Usethe shoulder belt on the outside shoulderonly. Never wear the shoulder belt underthe arm. Never use a single seatbelt formore than one person.
WARNING: Even with advancedrestraints systems, properly restrainchildren 12 and under in a rear seatingposition. Failure to follow this couldseriously increase the risk of injury ordeath.
WARNING: Seatbelts and seats maybe hot in a vehicle that is in the sunshine.The hot seatbelts or seats may burn a smallchild. Check seat covers and bucklesbefore you place a child anywhere nearthem.
WARNING: If your vehicle is involvedin a crash, have the seatbelts andassociated components inspected as soonas possible. Failure to follow this instructioncould result in personal injury or death.
All seating positions in this vehicle haveseatbelts. All occupants of the vehicle shouldproperly wear their seatbelts, even when anairbag supplemental restraint system isprovided.

The seatbelt system consists of:
•Lap and shoulder seatbelts.
•A shoulder seatbelt with automaticlocking mode, except driver seatbelt.
•Height adjusters at the front outermostseating positions.
•Seatbelt pretensioners at the frontoutermost and rear outermost seatingpositions.
A seatbelt warning light and chime.
Crash sensors and monitoringsystem with readiness indicator.
The seatbelt pretensioners are designed totighten the seatbelts when activated. Infrontal and near-frontal crashes, the seatbeltpretensioners may be activated alone or, ifthe crash is of sufficient severity, togetherwith the front airbags. In side crashes androllovers, the pretensioners will be activatedwhen the Safety Canopy is activated.
FASTENING AND UNFASTENING
THE SEATBELTS
All seatbelts in your vehicle are a three-pointcombination lap and shoulder seatbelt.

1.Pull the seatbelt out steadily.
Note:It may lock if you pull it sharply or ifthe vehicle is on a slope.
2.Insert the tongue into the buckle.
3.Pull the seatbelt tight to remove anyslack.
Unfastening the Seatbelts
1.Press the red button on the buckle torelease the seatbelt.
2.Hold the seatbelt tongue and let it retractcompletely and smoothly to its stowedposition.

ENGAGING AUTOMATIC LOCKINGMODE
1.Fasten the combination lap and shoulderbelt.
2.Grasp the shoulder portion and pulldownward until you pull the entire beltout.
3.Allow the belt to retract. As the beltretracts, you will hear a clicking sound.This indicates the seatbelt is now in theautomatic locking mode.
DISENGAGING AUTOMATIC LOCKINGMODE
Unbuckle the combination lap and shoulderbelt and allow it to retract completely todisengage the automatic locking mode andactivate the vehicle sensitive locking mode.
ADJUSTING THE SEATBELTS
DURING PREGNANCY
WARNING: Always ride and drivewith your seatback upright and properlyfasten your seatbelt. Fit the lap portion ofthe seatbelt snugly and low across thehips. Position the shoulder portion of theseatbelt across your chest. Pregnantwomen must follow this practice. See thefollowing figure.
Pregnant women should always wear theirseatbelt. Position the lap belt portion of acombination lap and shoulder belt low acrossthe hips below the belly and worn as tightas comfort allows. Position the shoulder beltto cross the middle of the shoulder and thecenter of the chest.

ADJUSTING THE SEATBELT
HEIGHT
WARNING: Position the seatbeltheight adjuster so that the seatbelt restsacross the middle of your shoulder. Failureto adjust the seatbelt correctly couldreduce its effectiveness and increase therisk of injury in a crash.
1.Press the button and slide the heightadjuster up or down.
2.Release the button and pull down on theheight adjuster to make sure it is lockedin place.
SEATBELT REMINDER
HOW DOES THE SEATBELT REMINDERWORK
WARNING: The system will onlyprovide protection when you use theseatbelt correctly.
This system monitors all seating positionsand provides audio and graphic feedback.
SEATBELT REMINDER INDICATORS
This lamp illuminates if you do notfasten your seatbelt when youswitch the ignition on. The lampswitches off when you fasten your seatbeltor about one minute has elapsed.
When the initial warning expires for thedriver, more warnings are provided for thedriver and front passenger. This lampilluminates if you or your front passenger donot fasten the seatbelt buckle and thevehicle speed exceeds 6 mph (10 km/h).
Note:To avoid inadvertent warnings, do notplace large objects on the front passengerseat.
This lamp illuminates when youswitch the ignition on, identifyingthe number of seating positionswith fastened buckles. It illuminates againwhen a seating position changes fromunfastened to fastened.

This warning displays if an occupantunfastens the rear seatbelt buckle or itbecomes unfastened.
Note:If a rear seat is unoccupied, or anoccupant never fastens the seatbelt buckleto begin with, the warning will not display.
Note:Front seating positions appear in thiswarning display. Warnings for unfastenedfront seatbelt buckles appear in the initialwarning lamp.

SEATBELT REMINDER AUDIBLEWARNINGS
A warning tone sounds if you do not fastenyour seatbelt when you switch the ignitionon. The tone switches off when you fastenyour seatbelt or about one minute elapses.
When the initial warning expires for thedriver, more warnings are provided for thedriver and front passenger. This warning tonesounds if you or your front passenger do notfasten the seatbelt buckle and the vehiclespeed exceeds 6 mph (10 km/h).
This tone also sounds if an occupantunfastens the rear seatbelt buckle or itbecomes unfastened.
SWITCHING THE SEATBELTREMINDER ON AND OFF
WARNING: While the system allowsyou to deactivate it, this system is designedto improve your chances of being safelybelted and surviving an accident. Werecommend you leave the systemactivated for yourself and others who mayuse the vehicle.
Note:The driver and front passengerwarnings switch off independently. Whenyou perform this procedure for one seatingposition, do not buckle the other position asthis cancels the process.

Read Steps 1-4 before proceeding with theprogramming procedure.
Make sure that:
•You set the parking brake.
•The transmission is in park (P).
•The ignition is off.
•You close all vehicle doors.
•You unfasten the driver and frontpassenger seatbelts.
1.Switch the ignition on. Do not start theengine.
2.Immediately start the deactivation orreactivation procedure in Step 3. Onceyou start Step 3, you must complete theprocedure within 30 seconds.
3.For the seating position you are switchingoff or on, fasten then unfasten theseatbelt four times at a moderate speed,ending in the unfastened state. Theseatbelt warning light flashes forconfirmation.
This switches the feature off for that seatingposition if it is currently on.
This switches the feature on for that seatingposition if it is currently off.
CHECKING THE SEATBELTS
Check the seatbelts and child restraintsperiodically to make sure they work properlyand are not damaged. Make sure there areno nicks, tears or cuts. Replace if necessary.
Check the following seatbelt assemblies aftera crash.
•Retractors.
•Buckles.
•Front seatbelt buckle assemblies.
•Shoulder belt height adjusters.
•Shoulder belt guide on seat backrest.
•Child restraint LATCH and tether anchors.
•Attaching hardware.
Read the child restraint manufacturer'sinstructions for additional inspection andmaintenance information specific to the childrestraint.
We recommend that all seatbelt assembliesin use in vehicles involved in a crash bereplaced. However, if the crash was minorand an authorized dealer finds that the beltsdo not show damage and continue tooperate properly, they do not need to bereplaced. Seatbelt assemblies not in useduring a crash should also be checked andreplaced if either damage or improperoperation is noted.

SEATBELT EXTENSIONS
WARNING: Persons who fit into thevehicle's seatbelt should not use anextension. Unnecessary use could resultin serious personal injury in the event of acrash.
