GLOSSARY OF TIRE
TERMINOLOGY
*Tire label: A label showing the originalequipment tire sizes, recommendedinflation pressure and the maximumweight the vehicle can carry.
*Tire Identification Number (TIN): Anumber on the sidewall of each tireproviding information about the tirebrand and manufacturing plant, tire sizeand date of manufacture. Also referredto as DOT code.
*Inflation pressure: A measure of theamount of air in a tire.
*Standard load: A class of P-metric orMetric tires designed to carry amaximum load at set pressure. Forexample: For P-metric tires 35 psi(2.4 bar) and for Metric tires 36 psi(2.5 bar). Increasing the inflationpressure beyond this pressure will notincrease the tire’s load carryingcapability.
*Extra load: A class of P-metric or Metrictires designed to carry a heaviermaximum load at 42 psi (2.9 bar).Increasing the inflation pressure beyondthis pressure will not increase the tire’sload carrying capability.
*kPa: Kilopascal, a metric unit of airpressure.
*PSI: Pounds per square inch, a standardunit of air pressure.
*Cold tire pressure: The tire pressurewhen the vehicle has been stationaryand out of direct sunlight for an hour ormore and prior to the vehicle beingdriven for 1 mi (1.6 km).
*Recommended inflation pressure: Thecold inflation pressure found on the
Safety Compliance Certification Label(affixed to either the door hinge pillar,door-latch post, or the door edge thatmeets the door-latch post, next to thedriver's seating position), or Tire Labellocated on the B-Pillar or the edge of thedriver door.
* B-pillar: The structural member at theside of the vehicle behind the front door.
*Bead area of the tire: Area of the tirenext to the rim.
* Sidewall of the tire: Area between thebead area and the tread.
*Tread area of the tire: Area of theperimeter of the tire that contacts theroad when mounted on the vehicle.
*Rim: The metal support (wheel) for atire or a tire and tube assembly uponwhich the tire beads are seated.

What to do when a tire is punctured
A tire puncture within the tire's tread areacan be repaired in two stages with the kit.
•In the first stage, the tire is reinflated witha sealing compound and air. After the tirehas been inflated, drive the vehicle ashort distance approximately 4 mi (6 km)to distribute the sealant in the tire.
•In the second stage, check the tirepressure and adjust, if necessary, to thevehicle's specified tire inflation pressure.
First Stage: Reinflating the Tire withsealing compound and air
WARNING: Do not stand directly overthe kit while inflating the tire. If you noticeany unusual bulges or deformations in thetire's sidewall during inflation, stop and callroadside assistance.
WARNING: If the tire does not inflateto the recommended tire pressure within15 minutes, stop and call roadsideassistance.
Park the vehicle in a safe, level and securearea, away from moving traffic.
Turn the hazard lights on. Apply the parkingbrake and power off the vehicle. Inspect theflat tire for visible damage.
If a puncture is located in the tire sidewall, stop and call roadside assistance.
1.Remove the valve cap from the tire valve.
2.Unwrap the dual purpose hose (blacktube) from the back of the compressorhousing.
3.Fasten the hose to the tire valve byturning the connector clockwise. Tightenthe connection securely.
4.Plug the power cable into the 12-voltpower point in the vehicle.

Make sure to change your vehicle’s oils andfluids at the specified intervals or inconjunction with a repair. Flushing is a viableway to change fluid for many vehiclesub-systems during scheduled maintenance.
It is critical that systems are flushed only withnew fluid that is the same as that requiredto fill and operate the system or using aFord-approved flushing chemical.
Owner Checks and Services
Make sure you perform the following basicmaintenance checks and inspections everymonth or at six-month intervals.
Check Every Month
Engine oil level.
Function of all interior and exterior lights.
Tires (including spare) for wear and proper pressure.
Windshield washer fluid level.
Fuel and water separator. Drain if necessary (or if indicated by the information display).
Holes and slots in the tail pipe to make sure they are functional and clear of debris.
Check Every Six Months
Battery connections. Clean if necessary.
Body and door drain holes for obstructions. Clean if necessary.
