You should drain water from themodule assembly whenever thewarning light illuminates or amessage appears in the informationdisplay advising you to drain the waterseparator. This occurs when approximately6.76 fl oz (200 ml) of water accumulatesin the module. If you allow the water level
to exceed this level, the water may passthrough to the engine and may cause fuelinjection equipment damage.

3.Use the table to find the location ofyour fuel filter.
4.Drain the diesel fuel conditionermodule. Turn the drain plugcounterclockwise until it stops. Do notuse any tools to loosen the drain plug.Drain the filter, approximately 0.5 gal(2 L), into an appropriate container.Do not re-use the fuel drained from themodule.
5.Tighten the drain plug, turn it clockwiseuntil it stops and you feel a strongresistance. Do not use any tools totighten the drain plug.
6.Prime the system by turning the key tothe on position for 30 seconds. Turnthe key to the off position, then the onposition again for another 30 seconds.Repeat this twice.

PREPARING YOUR VEHICLE
FOR STORAGE
If you plan on storing your vehicle for 30days or more, the following maintenancerecommendations ensures your vehiclestays in good operating condition.
Under various conditions, long-termstorage may lead to degraded engineperformance or failure unless you usespecific precautions to preserve yourvehicle.
General
•Store all vehicles in a dry, ventilatedplace.
•If vehicles are stored outside, theyrequire regular maintenance to protectagainst rust and weather damage.
•Make sure all linkages, cables, leversand pins under your vehicle are coveredwith grease to prevent rust.
•Move vehicles at least 25 ft (7.5 m)every 15 days to lubricate working partsand prevent corrosion.
•Fill the fuel tank with high-quality fueluntil the first automatic shutoff of thefuel pump nozzle.
Engine
•Change the engine oil and filter prior tostorage because used engine oilcontains contaminants which maycause engine damage.
•Start the engine every 15 days for aminimum of 15 minutes. Run at fastidle with the climate controls set todefrost until the engine reaches normaloperating temperature.
•With your foot on the brake, shiftthrough all the gears while the engineis running.
Body
•Wash your vehicle thoroughly toremove dirt, grease, oil, tar or mud fromexterior surfaces, rear wheel housingsand the underside of front fenders.
•Periodically wash your vehicle if it isstored in exposed locations.
•Touch-up exposed or primed metal toprevent rust.
•Cover chrome and stainless steel partswith a thick coat of auto wax to preventdiscoloration. Rewax as necessarywhen you wash your vehicle.
•Lubricate all hood, door and luggagecompartment hinges and latches witha light grade oil.
•Cover interior trim to prevent fading.
•Keep all rubber parts free from oil andsolvents.
12 Volt Battery
•When storing your vehicle for longerthan 30 days the state of chargeshould be approximately 50%.Additionally, we recommend todisconnect the 12v battery to reducesystem loads on the battery, or you canuse a trickle charger for longer storageperiods.
•Check and recharge as necessary. Keepconnections clean.
Note:It is necessary to reset memoryfeatures if you disconnect the batterycables.

California Fuel Filter Replacement
If you register your vehicle in California, theCalifornia Air Resources Board hasdetermined that the failure to perform thismaintenance item does not nullify theemission warranty or limit recall liabilitybefore the completion of your vehicle'suseful life. Ford Motor Company, however,urges you to have all recommendedmaintenance services performed at thespecified intervals and to record all vehicleservice.
Hot Climate Oil Change Intervals
Vehicles operating in the Middle East,North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa orlocations with similar climates using anAmerican Petroleum Institute (API)Certified for Gasoline Engines (Certificationmark) oil of SM or SN quality, the normaloil change interval is 3,000 mi (5,000 km).
If the available API SM or SN oils are notavailable, then the oil change interval is2,000 mi (3,000 km).
Engine Air Filter and Cabin Air FilterReplacement
The life of the engine air filter and cabin airfilter is dependent on exposure to dustyand dirty conditions. Vehicles operated inthese conditions require frequentinspection and replacement of the engineair filter and cabin air filter.
Diesel Particulate Filter
Over time, a slight amount of ash buildsup in the diesel particulate filter, which isnot removed during the regenerationprocess. The filter may need to be replacedwith a new or remanufactured part atapproximately 250,000 mi (400,000 km).Actual mileage varies depending on engineand vehicle operating conditions.
In this case, the engine control system setsa service light (wrench icon) to inform youto bring your vehicle to the dealer forservice. If there are any issues with theoxidation catalyst or particulate filtersystem, a service light (wrench or engineicon) sets by the engine control system toinform you to bring your vehicle into adealer for service.
