HOW DOES THE ENGINE BLOCKHEATER WORK
The engine block heater warms the enginecoolant. This allows the climate controlsystem to quickly respond. The equipmentincludes a heater element installed in theengine block and a wire harness. You canconnect the system to a grounded 110 voltAC electrical source.
Note:The engine block heater is mosteffective when outdoor temperatures arebelow 0°F (-18°C). We recommend the useof engine block heater to improve enginecold start performance.
USING THE ENGINE BLOCKHEATER
Make sure the receptacle terminals areclean and dry prior to use. Clean them witha dry cloth if necessary.
The heater uses 0.4 to 1.0 kilowatt-hoursof energy per hour of use. The system doesnot have a thermostat. It achievesmaximum temperature afterapproximately three hours of operation.Using the engine block heater longer thanthree hours does not improve systemperformance and unnecessarily useselectricity.

IDLE TIMER (IF EQUIPPED)
WHAT IS IDLE TIMER
The idle timer system allows you to selecthow long the engine will idle beforeshutting down. It provides power to allequipment and accessories of the vehiclewhile active.
HOW DOES IDLE TIMER WORK
The vehicle shuts down after a set amountof time when you are done driving and youplace the shifter in park (P) and leave thevehicle idling.
The idle timer defaults to active with thelength of idle set to 30 minutes. At anytime, you can edit the length of time youwould like the vehicle to idle beforeshutting down. It is possible to select anyvalue from 1 to 30 minutes, in 1 minuteincrements. See Idle Timer Settings(page 208).
Note:When you disable Pro Eco Idle, theIdle Timer will be re-enabled and the systemremembers your preference until anotherchange occurs. It does not reset after eachignition cycle.

Before you start manual regeneration, dothe following:
•Make sure the parking brake is on.
•Shift into park (P) on stable, levelground.
•Park your vehicle outside of anystructure.
•Park your vehicle 10–15 ft (3–5 m)away from any obstructions and awayfrom materials that can easily combustor melt, for example paper, leaves, petroleum products, fuels, plastics andother dry organic material.
•Make sure there is a minimum of 1/8tank of fuel.
•Make sure all fluids are at proper levels.
DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTERMANUAL REGENERATIONLIMITATIONS
You cannot use manual regeneration untilthe diesel particulate filter load percentagehas reached 100% or Full. The dieselparticulate filter load percentagefluctuates up and down when driving yourvehicle due to active and passiveregenerations.
If your vehicle is operated with significantstationary operation, low speed drivecycles less than 25 mph (40 km/h), shortdrive cycles, drive time less than 15 minutesor the vehicle does not fully warm up,passive and active regeneration may notsufficiently clean the diesel particulatefilter system.
Aftermarket devices or modifications tothe exhaust system may reduce theeffectiveness of the exhaust system aswell as cause damage to the exhaustsystem or engine. This may also degradevehicle performance and could lead toengine damage that may not be coveredby the vehicle Warranty.
STARTING DIESEL PARTICULATEFILTER MANUAL REGENERATION
Start with your vehicle engine and when ithas reached the normal operatingtemperature, press the information displaycontrol button on the steering wheel. SeeInstrument Cluster Display (page 143).
If the diesel particulate filter is near or atsaturation, a message requestingpermission to initiate filter cleaningappears in the information display. SeeDiesel Particulate Filter – InformationMessages (page 224). Answer yes to thisprompt and then follow the next promptsregarding exhaust position required toinitiate manual regeneration. Be sure tounderstand each prompt. If you are notsure what is being asked by each prompt, contact an authorized dealer. The displayconfirms the operation has started andwhen it has finished. You can also drive toclean the filter.
When the system is at the pointof oversaturation, themalfunction indicator lampilluminates and a message appears in theinformation display. You cannot initiatefilter cleaning. You must have your vehiclechecked as soon as possible.
Once manual regeneration starts, enginespeed increases and the cooling fan speedincreases. You will hear a change in audiblesound due to engine speed and cooling fanspeed increases.
It is not necessary to open the hood on theengine compartment. Once manualregeneration completes, the engine speedreturns to normal idling. The exhaustsystem remains very hot for severalminutes even after regeneration iscomplete. Do not reposition the vehicleover materials that could burn until the

FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE
PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Vehicles with a highercenter of gravity (utility and four-wheeldrive vehicles) handle differently thanvehicles with a lower center of gravity(passenger cars). Avoid sharp turns, excessive speed and abrupt steering inthese vehicles. Failure to drive cautiouslyincreases the risk of losing control of yourvehicle, vehicle rollover, personal injuryand death.
WARNING: Do not becomeoverconfident in the ability of four-wheeldrive vehicles. Although a four-wheeldrive vehicle may accelerate better thana two-wheel drive vehicle in low tractionsituations, it won't stop any faster thantwo-wheel drive vehicles. Always driveat a safe speed.
Truck and utility vehicles can differ fromsome other vehicles. Your vehicle could behigher to allow it to travel over roughterrain without getting stuck or damagingunderbody components. The differencesthat make your vehicle so versatile alsomake it handle differently than an ordinarypassenger car. Always maintain steeringwheel control, especially in rough terrain.Since sudden changes in terrain can resultin abrupt steering wheel motion, make sureyou grip the steering wheel from theoutside. Do not grip the spokes. Drivecautiously to avoid vehicle damage fromconcealed objects such as rocks andstumps. Drive slower in strong crosswindswhich can affect the normal steeringcharacteristics of your vehicle. Beextremely careful when driving onpavement made slippery by loose sand, water, gravel, snow or ice.
Note:Your vehicle may come with a frontair dam that can become damaged (due toreduced ground clearance) when taking yourvehicle off-road. This air dam can be takenoff by removing 15 bolts.
Parking
WARNING: If the parking brake isfully released, but the brake warninglamp remains illuminated, the brakesmay not be working properly. Have yourvehicle checked as soon as possible.
WARNING: Apply the parkingbrake, shift into park (P), switch theignition off and remove the key beforeyou leave your vehicle. Failure to followthis instruction could result in personalinjury or death.
On some four-wheel drive vehicles, whenthe transfer case is in the neutral (N)position, the engine and transmissiondisconnects from the rest of the driveline. Therefore, your vehicle is free to roll evenif the automatic transmission is in park (P).Do not leave the vehicle unattended withthe transfer case in the neutral (N)position. Always set the parking brake fullyand turn off the ignition when leaving yourvehicle.
FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE
LIMITATIONS
Do not use four-wheel drive high orfour-wheel drive low mode on dry, hardsurface roads. Doing so can produceexcessive noise, increase tire wear and candamage drive components. Four-wheeldrive high or four-wheel drive low modesare intended for consistently slippery orloose surfaces. Use of four low mode onthese surfaces could produce some noise, such as occasional clunks, but should not
