Battery Management System (If
Equipped)
The system monitors battery conditionsand takes actions to extend battery life. Ifexcessive battery drain is detected, thesystem temporarily disables someelectrical systems to protect the battery.
Systems included are:
•Heated rear window.
•Heated seats.
•Climate control.
•Heated steering wheel.
•Audio unit.
•Navigation system.
A message may appear in the informationdisplay to alert you that battery protectionactions are active. This message is only fornotification that an action is taking place,and not intended to indicate an electricalproblem or that the battery requiresreplacement.
After battery replacement, or in somecases after charging the battery with anexternal charger, the battery managementsystem requires eight hours of vehicle sleeptime to relearn the battery state of charge.During this time, your vehicle must remainfully locked with the ignition switched off.
Note:Prior to relearning the battery stateof charge, the battery management systemmay temporarily disable some electricalsystems.
Electrical Accessory Installation
To make sure the battery managementsystem works correctly, do not connect anelectrical device ground connectiondirectly to the battery negative post. Thiscan cause inaccurate measurements ofthe battery condition and potentialincorrect system operation.
Note:If you add electrical accessories orcomponents to the vehicle, it may adverselyaffect battery performance and durability.This may also affect the performance ofother electrical systems in the vehicle.
Remove and Reinstall the Battery
Install a battery approved for use by ourspecifications. See Capacities andSpecifications (page 337).
To disconnect or remove the battery, dothe following:
1.Apply the parking brake and switch theignition off.
2.Switch all electrical equipment off, forexample lights and radio.
3.Wait a minimum of two minutes beforedisconnecting the battery.
Note:The engine management system hasa power hold function and remains poweredfor a period of time after you switch theignition off. This is to allow the system tostore diagnostic and adaptive tables.Disconnecting the battery without waitingcan cause damage not covered by thevehicle warranty.
4.Disconnect the negative battery cableterminal.
5.Disconnect the positive battery cableterminal.
6.Remove the battery securing clamp.
7.Remove the battery.
8.To install, reverse the removalprocedure.

Line Lock
Line lock is a feature intended for use attracks only and should not be used onpublic roadways. Use of this feature mayresult in significantly increased rear tirewear. It is intended to condition the reartires to maximize traction prior to track use.Line lock maintains brake force at the frontwheels, allowing the rear wheels to spinwith minimal vehicle movement.
This feature is located in the Track Appsmenu. Make selections through the 5-wayinformation display control and OK buttonlocated on the steering wheel.
Using Line Lock
There are three line lock stages:
•Initiated.
•Engaged.
•Off.
Initiating Line Lock
The initiation stage verifies that the vehicleis ready for line lock function, and confirmsdriver intent. Follow the prompts in theinformation display to initiate line lock.
The following conditions must be met toinitialize line lock:
•The vehicle is on a level surface.
•The engine is running.
•The vehicle is traveling less than25 mph (40 km/h).
•Selectable drive mode is not in wetmode (if equipped).
•There are no electronic stability controlfaults.
If you want to cancel line lock once it isinitialized, press the left informationdisplay control. Once initiated, line lock isprepared for activation and remainsinitiated up to 25 mph (40 km/h). If vehiclespeed exceeds 25 mph (40 km/h), line lockautomatically cancels.
Engaging Line Lock
Follow the prompts in the informationdisplay to engage line lock after it isinitialized. To engage, firmly apply thebrakes. Then press the OK button. Onceengaged, release the brake pedal. Thefront brakes remain applied and the rearbrakes release. At this point, theengagement timer is initiated and shownon the driver information display.

Performance Shift Indicator
The performance shift indicator displaysa row of colored lights that representengine RPM.
The performance shift indicator menuallows you to:
•Choose whether the indicator is shownon the windshield or informationdisplay.
•Set a shift point within the allowableRPM range in increments of 100.
•Enable or disable the associated shifttone, based on the set shift point.
•Set the between off, change with drivemode, tach, track and drag.
•Set the light intensity. The intensityadjusts between day time and nighttime.

You should:
•Remove dust and loose dirt with avacuum cleaner.
•Clean and treat spills and stains assoon as possible.
Do not use the following products as thesemay damage the leather:
•Oil and petroleum or silicone-basedleather conditioners.
•Household cleaners.
•Alcohol solutions.
•Solvents or cleaners intendedspecifically for rubber, vinyl andplastics.
REPAIRING MINOR PAINT
DAMAGE
We recommend that you contact anauthorized dealer to identify your vehiclecolor code. Authorized dealers havetouch-up paint to match your vehicle'scolor.
Before repairing minor paint damage, usea cleaner to remove particles such as birddroppings, tree sap, insect deposits, tarspots, road salt and industrial fallout.
Read the instructions before using cleaningproducts.
CLEANING THE WHEELS
1.Regularly clean them with a wheelcleaner. We recommend that you useFord approved wheel cleaner ifavailable.
2.Remove dirt and brake dust with asponge.
3.Remove tar and grease with a bug andtar remover. We recommend that youuse Ford approved bug and tar removerif available.
4.Thoroughly rinse the wheels with waterafter cleaning.
If you intend on parking your vehicle for anextended period after cleaning the wheelswith a wheel cleaner, drive your vehicle fora few minutes before doing so. Thisreduces the risk of corrosion of the brakediscs, brake pads and linings.
Do not clean the wheels when they are hot.
Note: Some car washes could damagewheel rims and covers.
Note: Using non-recommended cleaners,harsh cleaning products, chrome wheelcleaners or abrasive materials coulddamage wheel rims, covers and bolts.
VEHICLE STORAGE
If you plan on storing your vehicle for 30days or more, read the followingmaintenance recommendations to makesure your vehicle stays in good operatingcondition.
We engineer and test all motor vehiclesand their components for reliable, regulardriving. Under various conditions,long-term storage may lead to degradedengine performance or failure unless youuse specific precautions to preserve enginecomponents.
General
•Store all vehicles in a dry, ventilatedplace.
•Protect from sunlight, if possible.
•If vehicles are stored outside, theyrequire regular maintenance to protectagainst rust and damage.

Body
•Wash your vehicle thoroughly toremove dirt, grease, oil, tar or mud fromexterior surfaces, rear-wheel housingand the underside of front fenders.
•Periodically wash your vehicle if it isstored in exposed locations.
•Touch-up exposed or primed metal toprevent rust.
•Cover chrome and stainless steel partswith a thick coat of auto wax to preventdiscoloration. Re-wax as necessarywhen you wash your vehicle.
•Lubricate all hood, door and luggagecompartment hinges and latches witha light grade oil.
•Cover interior trim to prevent fading.
•Keep all rubber parts free from oil andsolvents.
Engine
•Change the engine oil and filter prior tostorage because used engine oilcontains contaminates which maycause engine damage.
•Start the engine every 15 days for aminimum of 15 minutes. Run at fastidle with the climate controls set todefrost until the engine reaches normaloperating temperature.
•With your foot on the brake, shiftthrough all the gears while the engineis running.
•We recommend that you change theengine oil before you use your vehicleagain.
Fuel system
•Fill the fuel tank with high-quality fueluntil the first automatic shutoff of thefuel pump nozzle.
Cooling system
•Protect against freezing temperatures.
•When removing your vehicle fromstorage, check coolant fluid level.Confirm that there are no coolingsystem leaks and that fluid is at therecommended level.
Disconnecting Your 12 Volt Battery
•Check and recharge as necessary. Keepconnections clean.
•If storing your vehicle for more than 30days without recharging the battery,we recommend that you disconnectthe battery cables to maintain batterycharge for quick starting.
Note:It is necessary to reset memoryfeatures if you disconnect the batterycables.
Brakes
•Make sure the brakes and parking brakerelease fully.
Tires
•Maintain recommended air pressure.
Miscellaneous
•Make sure all linkages, cables, leversand pins under your vehicle are coveredwith grease to prevent rust.
•Move vehicles at least 25 ft (7.5 m)every 15 days to lubricate working partsand prevent corrosion.

General Information
WARNING: Failure to follow theseguidelines could result in an increasedrisk of loss of vehicle control, injury ordeath.
Note:Do not use the kit if you have severelydamaged a tire. Only seal punctures withinthe tire tread with the kit.
Do not attempt to repair punctures largerthan ¼ inch (6 millimeters) or damage tothe tire's sidewall. The tire may notcompletely seal.
Loss of air pressure may adversely affecttire performance. For this reason:

Note:Do not drive further than 120 mi(200 km). Drive only to the closestauthorized dealer or tire repair shop to haveyour tire inspected.
•Drive carefully and avoid abruptsteering maneuvers.
•Periodically monitor tire inflationpressure in the affected tire; if the tireis losing pressure, have the vehicletowed.
•Read the information in the Tips forUse of the Kit section to make sure safeoperation of the kit and your vehicle.
Tips for Use of the Kit
To ensure safe operation of the kit:
•Read all instructions and cautions fully.
•Before operating the kit, make sureyour vehicle is safely off the road andaway from moving traffic. Switch onthe hazard lights.
•Always set the parking brake to ensurethe vehicle does not moveunexpectedly.
•Do not remove any foreign objects,such as nails or screws, from the tire.
•When using the kit, leave the enginerunning (only if the vehicle is outdoorsor in a well-ventilated area) so thecompressor does not drain thevehicle's battery.
•Do not allow the compressor tooperate continuously for more than 15minutes. This will help prevent thecompressor from overheating.
•Never leave the kit unattended duringoperation.
•Sealant compound contains latex.Those with latex sensitivities shoulduse appropriate precautions to avoidan allergic reaction.
•Keep the kit away from children.
•Only use the kit when the ambienttemperature is between -22°F (-30°C)and 158°F (70°C).
•Only use the sealing compound beforethe use-by date. The use-by date is ona label on the sealant canister, whichyou can see through the rectangularviewing window on the bottom of thecompressor. Check the use-by dateregularly and replace the canister whenthe sealant expires.
•Do not store the kit unsecured insidethe passenger compartment of thevehicle as it may cause injury during asudden stop or crash. Always store thekit in its original location.
•After sealant use, an authorized dealermust replace the tire pressuremonitoring system sensor and valvestem on the wheel.
•Operating the kit could cause anelectrical disturbance in radio, CD andDVD player operation.

What to do When a Tire IsPunctured
You can repair a tire puncture within thetire's tread area in two stages with the kit.
•In the first stage, inflate the tire with asealing compound and air. After youinflate the tire, you will need to drivethe vehicle a short distance 4 mi(6 km) to distribute the sealant in thetire.
•In the second stage, check the tirepressure and adjust, if necessary, to thevehicle's specified tire inflationpressure.
First Stage: Inflating the Tire withSealing Compound and Air
WARNING: Do not stand directlyover the kit while inflating the tire. If younotice any unusual bulges ordeformations in the tire's sidewall duringinflation, stop and call roadsideassistance.
WARNING: If the tire does notinflate to the recommended tire pressurewithin 15 minutes, stop and call roadsideassistance.
WARNING: Do not run the enginewhen operating the air compressorunless the vehicle is outdoors or in awell-ventilated area.
Preparation: Park the vehicle in a safe, leveland secure area, away from moving traffic.
Switch the hazard lights on. Apply theparking brake and switch the engine off.Inspect the flat tire for visible damage.
Sealant compound contains latex. Useappropriate precautions to avoid anyallergic reactions.
Do not remove any foreign object that haspierced the tire. If a puncture is in the tiresidewall, stop and call roadside assistance.
1.Remove the valve cap from the tirevalve.
2.Unwrap the dual purpose hose (blacktube) from the back of the compressorhousing.
3.Fasten the hose to the tire valve byturning the connector clockwise.Tighten the connection securely.
4.Plug the power cable into the 12-voltpower point in the vehicle.
5.Remove the warning sticker found onthe casing/housing and place it on thetop of the instrument panel or thecenter of the dash.
6.Start the vehicle and leave the enginerunning so the compressor does notdrain the vehicle’s battery.

When driving with one of the dissimilarspare tires listed above, do not:
•Exceed 50 mph (80 km/h).
•Load the vehicle beyond maximumvehicle load rating listed on the SafetyCompliance Label.
•Use snow chains on the end of thevehicle with the dissimilar spare tire.
•Use more than one dissimilar spare tireat a time.
•Use commercial car washingequipment.
•Try to repair the dissimilar spare tire.
Use of one of the dissimilar spare tireslisted above at any one wheel location canlead to impairment of the following:
•Handling, stability and brakingperformance.
•Comfort and noise.

3.Full-size dissimilar spare withoutlabel on wheel
When driving with the full-size dissimilarspare wheel and tire assembly, do not:
•Exceed 75 mph (120 km/h).
•Use more than one dissimilar sparewheel and tire assembly at a time.
•Use commercial car washingequipment.
•Use snow chains on the end of thevehicle with the dissimilar spare wheeland tire assembly.
The usage of a full-size dissimilar sparewheel and tire assembly can lead toimpairment of the following:
•Handling, stability and brakingperformance.
•Comfort and noise.
•Ground clearance and parking at curbs.
•Winter weather driving capability.
•Wet weather driving capability.
•All-wheel driving capability.
When driving with the full-size dissimilarspare wheel and tire assembly additionalcaution should be given to:
•Driving vehicles with a load on thecargo rack.
Drive cautiously when using a full-sizedissimilar spare wheel and tire assemblyand seek service as soon as possible.
Tire Change Procedure
WARNING: To help prevent yourvehicle from moving when changing awheel, shift the transmission into park(P), set the parking brake and use anappropriate block or wheel chock tosecure the wheel diagonally opposite tothe wheel being changed. For example,when changing the front left wheel,place an appropriate block or wheelchock on the right rear wheel.
