WHAT IS REMOTE START
The system allows you to remotely startyour vehicle and therefore to heat or coolthe interior to a predeterminedtemperature.
REMOTE START LIMITATIONS
Remote start does not work under thefollowing conditions:
•The alarm horn is sounding.
•The hood is open.
•The transmission is not in park (P).
•The ignition is on.
•The battery voltage is below theminimum operating voltage.
Note:Do not use remote start if your fuellevel is low.
ENABLING REMOTE START
1.Press Settings on the touchscreen.
2.Press Vehicle.
3.Press Remote Start Setup.
4.Switch Remote Start on or off.
Note:To remote start with FordPass, makesure that the modem is enabled. SeeConnecting FordPass to the Modem(page 368).
REMOTELY STARTING THE
ENGINE
WARNING: Do not start the enginein a closed garage or in other enclosedareas. Exhaust fumes are toxic. Alwaysopen the garage door before you startthe engine. Failure to follow thisinstruction could result in personal injuryor death.
To start the engine, do the following:
Press the button on the remotecontrol.
Within three seconds, press thebutton on the remote control.
Within three seconds, press thebutton again.
Note:You can also use the FordPass appto start the engine.
Note:The turn signals flash twice.
Note:The parking lamps turn on when theengine is running.
Note:The horn sounds if the system failsto start.
Note:All other vehicle systems remain offwhen you have remotely started the engine.
Note:The vehicle remains secured whenyou have remotely started the engine. Avalid key must be inside your vehicle toswitch the ignition on and drive your vehicle.

Saving a Preset Position
1.Switch the ignition on.
2.Adjust the memory features to yourpreferred position.
3.Press and hold the preferred presetbutton until you hear a single tone.
You can save up to three preset memorypositions at any time.
Recalling a Preset Position
Press and release a preset button.
Note:You can only recall a preset memoryposition when the ignition is off, or when thetransmission is in park (P) or neutral (N) ifthe ignition is on.
You can also recall a preset memoryposition by:
•Pressing the unlock button on yourintelligent access key fob if it is linkedto a preset position.
•Unlocking the intelligent driver doorhandle if a linked key fob is present.
Note:When the ignition is off and you usea linked key fob to recall your memoryposition, the seat moves to the easy entryposition.
Note:Pressing any of the preset buttonsduring a memory recall cancels theoperation.
Seat recall movement also stops if youdrive your vehicle.
Linking a Preset Position to yourRemote Control or IntelligentAccess Key Fob
You can save preset memory positions forup to three remote controls or intelligentaccess keys.
1.With the ignition on, move the memorypositions to the preferred positions.
2.Press and hold a preset button for fiveseconds. A tone sounds after twoseconds. Continue holding until youhear a second tone.
3.Within three seconds, press the lockbutton on the remote control you arelinking.
To unlink a remote control, follow thesame procedure – except in step 3, pressthe unlock button on the remote control.
Note:If more than one linked remotecontrol or intelligent access key is in range,the memory function moves to the settingsof the first key to initiate a memory recall.
Easy Entry and Exit Feature
If you enable the easy entry and exitfeature, it moves the driver seat positionrearward up to 2 in (5 cm) when you switchthe ignition off.
The driver seat returns to the previousposition when you switch the ignition on.
You can enable or disable this featurethrough the information display. SeeInformation Displays (page 98).

Gate Operator / CanadianProgramming
Canadian radio-frequency laws requiretransmitter signals to “time-out” (or quit)after several seconds of transmission –which may not be long enough forHomeLink to pick up the signal duringprogramming. Similar to this Canadian law,some U.S. gate operators “time-out” in thesame manner.
Note:If programming a garage door openeror gate operator, it is advised to unplug thedevice during the “cycling” process toprevent possible overheating.
1.Press and release, every two seconds,your hand-held transmitter until theHomeLink indicator light changes to arapidly blinking or continuously on light.
2.Release the hand-held transmitterbutton.
3.Press and hold the HomeLink functionbutton you want to program for twoseconds, then release. You may needto do this twice to activate the door.
Note:If the indicator light stays on, theprogramming is complete.
Note:If the HomeLink indicator flashesrapidly, repeat Step 3.
Note:If your device still does not operate,you must program your garage door. SeeProgramming the Garage Door Opener toYour Garage Door Opener Motor (page141).
4.To program additional buttons, repeatSteps 1 – 4.

Start: Starts the engine.
•Press the brake pedal (automatictransmission) or clutch pedal (manualtransmission), and then press thebutton for any length of time. Anindicator light on the button illuminateswhen the ignition is on and when theengine starts.
STEERING WHEEL LOCK (IF
EQUIPPED)
Your vehicle has an electronicallycontrolled steering wheel lock thatautomatically operates.
The steering wheel will lock shortly afteryou have parked your vehicle and thepassive key is outside it or when you lockyour vehicle.
Note:The steering wheel will not lock whenthe ignition is on or when your vehicle ismoving.
Unlocking the Steering Wheel
The steering wheel unlocks when thesystem detects a valid passive key insideyour vehicle. If the steering wheel relocks,switch the ignition on to unlock it.
Note:You may have to slightly rotate thesteering wheel to assist unlocking it.
STARTING A GASOLINE
ENGINE
When you start the engine, the idle speedincreases, this helps to warm up theengine. If the engine idle speed does notslow down, have your vehicle checked assoon as possible.
Note: You can crank the engine for a totalof 60 seconds without the engine startingbefore the starting system temporarilydisables. The 60 seconds does not have tobe all at once. For example, if you crank theengine three times for 20 seconds eachtime, without the engine starting, youreached the 60-second time limit. Amessage appears in the information displayalerting you that you exceeded the crankingtime. You cannot attempt to start theengine for at least 15 minutes. After 15minutes, you are limited to a 15-secondengine cranking time. You need to wait 60minutes before you can crank the engine for60 seconds again.
Before starting the engine, check thefollowing:
•Make sure all occupants have fastenedtheir seatbelts.
•Make sure the headlamps andelectrical accessories are off.
•Make sure the parking brake is on.
•Move the transmission selector leverto park (P) (automatic transmission)or neutral (N) (manual transmission)
Note:Do not touch the accelerator pedal.
Note:You must have your intelligent accesskey in the vehicle in order to shift thetransmission out of position P.
1.Fully press the brake pedal.
2.Press the button.

The system does not function if:
•The key frequencies are jammed.
•The key battery has no charge.
If you are unable to start the engine, do thefollowing:
1.Remove the rubber covering (A) in thecupholder.
2.Place the remote in the backup slot (B)with the buttons facing up and thekeyring toward the front of the vehicle.
3.With the key in this position, press thebrake pedal (automatic transmission)or clutch pedal (manual transmission),then the START button to switch theignition on and start your vehicle.
Fast Restart
The fast restart feature allows you torestart the engine within 20 seconds ofswitching it off, even if a valid key is notpresent.
Within 20 seconds of switching the engineoff, press the brake pedal (automatictransmission) or clutch pedal (manualtransmission) and press the button. After20 seconds have expired, you can nolonger restart the engine without the keypresent inside your vehicle.
Once the engine has started, it remainsrunning until you press the button, even ifthe system does not detect a valid key. Ifyou open and close a door while the engineis running, the system searches for a validkey. You cannot restart the engine if thesystem does not detect a valid key within20 seconds.
Failure to Start
If you cannot start the engine after threeattempts, wait 10 seconds and follow thisprocedure:
1.If your vehicle has an automatictransmission, fully press the brakepedal. If your vehicle has a manualtransmission, fully press the clutchpedal and apply the handbrake.
2.Move the transmission selector leverto park (P) (automatic transmission)or neutral (N) (manual transmission).
3.Fully press the accelerator pedal andhold it there.
4.Attempt to start your vehicle and waituntil the engine stops cranking.
5.Release the accelerator pedal.
6.Start the engine.
Automatic Engine Shutdown
Your vehicle has a feature thatautomatically shuts down the engine if ithas been idling for an extended period. Theignition also turns off in order to savebattery power. Before the engine shutsdown, a message appears in theinformation display showing a timercounting down from 30 seconds. If you donot intervene within 30 seconds, the engineshuts down. Another message appears inthe information display to inform you thatthe engine has shut down in order to savefuel. Start your vehicle as you normally do.
