STEERING
Electric Power Steering
WARNING: The electric powersteering system has diagnostic checksthat continuously monitor the system. Ifa fault is detected, a message displaysin the information display. Stop yourvehicle as soon as it is safe to do so.Switch the ignition off. After at least 10seconds, switch the ignition on andwatch the information display for asteering system warning message. If asteering system warning messagereturns, have the system checked assoon as possible.
WARNING: If the system detectsan error, you may not feel a difference inthe steering, however a serious conditionmay exist. Have your vehicle checked assoon as possible. Failure to do so mayresult in loss of steering control.
Your vehicle has an electric power steeringsystem, there is no fluid reservoir, nomaintenance is required.
If your vehicle loses electrical power whileyou are driving, electric power steeringassistance is lost. The steering system stilloperates and you can steer your vehiclemanually. Manually steering your vehiclerequires more effort.
Extreme continuous steering may increasethe effort required for you to steer yourvehicle, this increased effort preventsoverheating and permanent damage tothe steering system. You do not lose theability to steer your vehicle manually.Typical steering and driving maneuversallow the system to cool and return tonormal operation.
Steering Tips
If the steering wanders or pulls, check for:
•Correct tire pressures.
•Uneven tire wear.
•Loose or worn suspensioncomponents.
•Loose or worn steering components.
•Improper vehicle alignment.
Note:A high crown in the road or highcrosswinds may also make the steeringseem to wander or pull.

3.Active braking.
Alert: When active, a flashing visualwarning and an audible warning tonesounds.
Brake support: The system helps reducethe impact speed by preparing the brakesfor rapid braking. The system does notautomatically apply the brakes. If you pressthe brake pedal, the system can applyadditional braking up to maximum brakingforce, even if you lightly press the brakepedal.
Active braking: It activates if the systemdetermines that a collision is about tooccur. The system may help the driverreduce impact damage or completelyavoid the crash.
Note:Brake support and active braking areactive at speeds up to 80 mph (130 km/h).If your vehicle has a radar sensor withadaptive cruise control, then brake supportand active braking are active up to themaximum speed of your vehicle.
Note:If you perceive pre-collision assistalerts as being too frequent or disturbing, you can reduce the alert sensitivity, thoughthe manufacturer recommends using thehighest sensitivity setting. Setting lowersensitivity would lead to fewer and latersystem warnings.
Note:The system turns off when youmanually disable AdvanceTrac™, or whenyou select track mode.
Distance Indication and Alert (If
Equipped)
Distance indication and alert provides agraphical indication of the time gap toother preceding vehicles traveling in thesame direction. The distance indicationand alert screen in the information displayshows an image similar to the one thatfollows.
If the time gap to a preceding vehicle issmall, a red visual indication displays tothe driver.
Note:Distance indication and alertdeactivates and the images do not displaywhen adaptive cruise control is active.

DRIVE CONTROL - MACH 1 (IF
EQUIPPED)
Selectable Drive Modes
Selectable drive modes deliver acustomized driving experience using avariety of electronic vehicle systems. Thesystems optimize vehicle dynamics andpowertrain response based on yourselected mode. Systems associated withselectable drive modes are:
•Electronically power assisted steering.See Steering (page 202).
•Electronic stability control and tractioncontrol maintain your vehicle controlin adverse conditions or highperformance driving. See StabilityControl (page 175). See TractionControl (page 174).
•Electronic throttle control enhancesthe powertrain response to your drivinginput.
•Adaptive dampers, if your vehiclecomes with them.
•Active exhaust, if provided on yourvehicle, adjusts the soundcharacteristics of your vehicle.
Using Selectable Drive Modes
To change the drive mode setting, pressthe mode button on the instrument panelunder the display. The first pressilluminates the selected mode, subsequentpresses change the selected mode.
Note:Mode changes are not available whenthe ignition is off or when the transmissionis in reverse (R). Some modes may beunavailable when the transmission is in drive(D) or sport (S).
Note:Your vehicle may have some of thedrive modes that follow.
Modes:
•Normal – Best suited for everydaydriving. If your vehicle has adaptivedampers, the suspension delivers abalanced combination of comfort andhandling. Selectable steering defaultsto normal but you can change it usingthe steering button.
•Sport – Engages when you shift yourautomatic transmission into sport (S).Sport mode increases throttleresponse and helps your vehicleaccelerate faster, but does not changethe vehicle dynamics or stabilitysystem. The automatic transmissionholds lower gears and a higher RPMwhen lifting off the accelerator. Theautomatic transmission downshifts toa higher RPM when brakingaggressively.
•Sport+ – Best suited for spirited driving. This mode increases throttle response, and if your vehicle has active exhaust,it takes on a more powerful tone. If yourvehicle has adaptive dampers, thesuspension becomes stiffer, bodymotion reduces and the steeringbecomes more precise. Selectablesteering defaults to sport. Dependingon your vehicle configuration, you maybe able to change the selectablesteering setting by pressing the steering
