Your vehicle has electronic control unitsthat have data recording functionality andthe ability to permanently or temporarilystore data. This data could includeinformation on the condition and status ofyour vehicle, vehicle maintenancerequirements, events and malfunctions.The types of data that can be recorded aredescribed in this section. Some of the datarecorded is stored in event logs or errorlogs.
Note:Error logs are reset following a serviceor repair.

Data recorded includes, for example:
•Operating states of systemcomponents, for example batterycharge level and tire pressure.
•Vehicle and component status, forexample wheel speed, deceleration,lateral acceleration and seatbeltstatus.
•Events or errors in essential systems,for example headlamps and brakes.
•System responses to driving situations,for example airbag deployment andstability control.
•Environmental conditions, for exampletemperature.
Some of this data, when used incombination with other information, forexample an accident report, damage to avehicle or eyewitness statements, couldbe associated with a specific person.

We transmit thisdata through a dedicated, protectedconnection. We only collect and use datato enable your use of our services to whichyou have subscribed, with your consent orwhere permitted by law. Service data recorders in your vehicle arecapable of collecting and storingdiagnostic information about your vehicle.This potentially includes information aboutthe performance or status of varioussystems and modules in the vehicle, suchas the high voltage battery, throttle, andsteering or brake systems. In order toproperly diagnose and service your vehicle,Ford Motor Company (Ford of Canada inCanada), and service and repair facilitiesmay access or share among them vehiclediagnostic information received through adirect connection to your vehicle whendiagnosing or servicing your vehicle.Additionally, Ford Motor Company (Fordof Canada, in Canada) may, wherepermitted by law, use vehicle diagnosticinformation for vehicle improvement orwith other information we may have aboutyou, for example, your contact information,to offer you products or services that mayinterest you. Data may be provided to ourservice providers such as part suppliersthat may help diagnose malfunctions, andwho are similarly obligated to protect data.We retain this data only as long asnecessary to perform these functions or tocomply with law. We may provideinformation where required in response toofficial requests to law enforcement orother government authorities or thirdparties acting with lawful authority or courtorder, and such information may be usedin legal proceedings. EVENT DATA
This vehicle is equipped with an event datarecorder. The main purpose of an eventdata recorder is to record, in certain crashor near crash-like situations, such as anairbag deployment or hitting a roadobstacle; this data will assist inunderstanding how a vehicle’s systemsperformed. The event data recorder isdesigned to record data related to vehicledynamics and safety systems for a shortperiod of time, typically 30 seconds or less.
The event data recorder in this vehicle isdesigned to record such data as:
•How various systems in your vehiclewere operating.
•Whether or not the driver andpassenger seatbelts werebuckled/fastened.
•How far (if at all) the driver wasdepressing the accelerator and/or thebrake pedal.
•How fast the vehicle was traveling.
•Where the driver was positioning thesteering wheel.
This data can help provide a betterunderstanding of the circumstances inwhich crashes and injuries occur.

When installing a child restraint withseatbelts:
•Place the vehicle seat in the uprightposition before you install the childrestraint.
•Use the correct seatbelt buckle for thatseating position.
•Insert the belt tongue into the buckle.Make sure the tongue is securelyfastened in the buckle.
•Keep the buckle release buttonpointing up and away from the childrestraint, with the tongue between thechild restraint and the release button,to prevent accidental unbuckling.
•Put the seatbelt in the automaticlocking mode.

CHILD RESTRAINTS RECOMMENDATION
Recommended Restraint TypeChild Size, Height, Weight, or Age
Use a child restraint (sometimescalled an infant carrier, convertibleseat, or toddler seat).
Children weighing 40 lb (18 kg) or less (generallyage four or younger).
Use a belt-positioning boosterseat.
Children who have outgrown or no longer properlyfit in a child restraint (generally children who areless than 57 in (1.45 m) tall, are greater than agefour and less than age 12, and between 40 lb (18 kg)and 80 lb (36 kg) and upward to 100 lb (45 kg) ifrecommended by your child restraint manufacturer).
Use a vehicle seatbelt having thelap belt snug and low across thehips, shoulder belt centered acrossthe shoulder and chest, and seatbackrest upright.
Children who have outgrown or no longer properlyfit in a belt-positioning booster seat (generally chil-dren who are at least 57 in (1.45 m) tall or greaterthan 80 lb (36 kg) or 100 lb (45 kg) if recommendedby child restraint manufacturer).
You are required by law to properly usechild restraints for infants and toddlers inthe United States, Canada and Mexico.
Many states and provinces require thatsmall children use approved booster seatsuntil they reach age eight, a height of 57 in(1.45 m) tall, or 80 lb (36 kg). Check yourlocal and state or provincial laws forspecific requirements about the safety ofchildren in your vehicle.
When possible, properly restrain children12 years of age and under in a rear seatingposition of your vehicle. Accident statisticssuggest that children are safer whenproperly restrained in the rear seatingpositions than in a front seating position.
When installing a rear facing child restraint,adjust the vehicle seats to avoidinterference between the child restraintand the vehicle seat in front of the childrestraint.

USING SEATBELTS
WARNING: Depending on whereyou secure a child restraint, anddepending on the child restraint design,you may block access to certain seatbeltbuckle assemblies and LATCH loweranchors, rendering those featurespotentially unusable. To avoid risk ofinjury, make sure occupants only useseating positions where they are able tobe properly restrained.
Note:Although the child restraintillustrated is a forward-facing child restraint,the steps are the same for installing arear-facing child restraint.
Perform the following steps wheninstalling a child restraint with seatbelts.

1.Position the child restraint in a seatwith a seatbelt.
2.Pull down on the shoulder belt andthen grasp it and the lap belt together.
3.While holding the shoulder and lap beltportions together, route the tonguethrough the child restraint accordingto the child restraint manufacturer'sinstructions. Make sure you did nottwist the belt webbing.
4.Insert the belt tongue into the properbuckle for that seating position untilthe latch engages. Make sure that yousecurely latch the tongue by pulling onit.
5.To put the retractor in the automaticlocking mode, grasp the shoulderportion of the belt and pull downwarduntil you pull all of the seatbelt out.
Note:The automatic locking mode isavailable on the front passenger and rearseats. This vehicle does not require the useof a locking clip.
6.Allow the belt to retract to removeslack. The seatbelt clicks as it retractsto indicate it is in the automatic lockingmode.
