Following a Vehicle
When a vehicle ahead of you enters thesame lane or a slower vehicle is ahead inthe same lane, the vehicle speed adjuststo maintain the gap setting.
Note:When you are following a vehicle andyou switch on a turn signal lamp, adaptivecruise control may provide a small, temporary acceleration to help you pass.
Your vehicle maintains a consistent gapfrom the vehicle ahead until:
•The vehicle in front of you acceleratesto a speed above the set speed.
•The vehicle in front of you moves outof the lane you are in.
•You set a new gap distance.
The system applies the brakes to slowdown your vehicle to maintain a safe gapdistance from the vehicle in front of you.The system only applies limited braking. You can override the system by applyingthe brakes.
Note:The brakes may emit noise whenapplied by the system.
If the system determines that its maximumbraking level is not sufficient, an audiblewarning sounds, a message appears in theinstrument cluster display and an indicatorflashes when the system continues tobrake. Take immediate action.
CANCELING THE SET SPEED
Press the button or tap the brakepedal.
The set speed does not erase.
RESUMING THE SET SPEED
Press the button.
Your vehicle speed returns to thepreviously set speed and gap setting. Theset speed displays continuously in theinstrument cluster display when thesystem is active.
Note:Only use resume if you are aware ofthe set speed and intend to return to it.
Resuming the Set Speed from aComplete Stop
If your vehicle follows a vehicle to acomplete stop and remains stationary forless than a few seconds, your vehicleaccelerates from a stationary position tofollow the vehicle ahead.

PREDICTIVE SPEED ASSIST
HOW DOES PREDICTIVE SPEEDASSIST WORK
Predictive Speed Assist works withadaptive cruise control and adjusts thevehicle speed to the road geometry and tothe speed limit detected by the speed signrecognition system. As the systemidentifies curves and highway exits, thevehicle speed temporarily decreases aheadof and during the changing road geometry. When passing new speed signs, the setspeed updates. See Predictive SpeedAssist Precautions (page 247).
There are limitations that affect theaccuracy of the speed sign recognitionsystem and its ability to determine thecurrent speed limit. Predictive speed assistand its ability to determine the currentspeed limit shares these limitations. SeeSpeed Sign Recognition (page 287).
Note:The adaptive cruise control gapsetting operates normally when the featureis enabled.

Failureto follow this instruction could result inthe loss of control of your vehicle, personal injury or death.
WARNING: Pay close attention tochanging road conditions. You may needto override the system by pressing thebrake or accelerator pedal if the adjustedspeed becomes higher or lower thannecessary.
WARNING: The system onlyprovides limited braking. Your vehiclemay not always decelerate quicklyenough to avoid a crash without driverintervention. Apply the brakes whennecessary.
WARNING: The system does notactivate the turn signal.
Adaptive cruise control precautions applyto predictive speed assist unless statedotherwise or contradicted by a predictivespeed assist precaution. See AdaptiveCruise Control Precautions (page 236).
The system only applies limited braking. You can override the system with theaccelerator pedal or cancel the system byapplying the brakes.
The system may adapt to various factorssuch as time of day, lane width. This couldinfluence speed adjustments andaccelerations.
The system may adapt to various drivemodes. See Drive Mode Control (page260).This could influence speedadjustments and accelerations.
Note:The system does not activate theturn signal automatically.
PREDICTIVE SPEED ASSISTLIMITATIONS
WARNING: The system may notalways adjust vehicle speed in certainroad or weather conditions such ascrossing traffic, yield or stop signs, rightof way, traffic lights, speed bumps, rain, snow, fog. You must always apply thebrake or accelerator pedal whennecessary.
The road geometry and speed limitinformation provided by the navigationmap data could be inaccurate or out ofdate.
The system may not detect and readspeed limit signs with conditionalinformation, for example, when a sign isflashing, during specific time ranges, orwhen children are present.
Note:The system does not set the vehiclespeed to speed limits shown with asupplementary traffic sign.
Under certain conditions, the system maynot adjust the vehicle speed until after yourvehicle passes the speed limit.
Detection of road geometry operates onlywhere related information is available.Road geometry information may not beavailable in some areas.

BLUECRUISE ALERTS
When BlueCruise is providing hands-ondriving or transitioning to hands-on drivingfrom hands-free driving and detects nosteering activity for a certain period of time, the system alerts you with a message inthe instrument cluster to put your handson the steering wheel. After the first alert, the system alerts you with a message inthe instrument cluster and an audiblewarning.
When BlueCruise is providing hands-on orhands-free driving and detects you are notlooking at the road for a certain period oftime, the system alerts you to return youreyes to the road. Depending on where youare looking, the alert can be a message inthe instrument cluster and an audiblewarning.
If you do not react to the warnings,BlueCruise cancels, quickly activates andreleases the brakes, and slows your vehicledown to low speeds while maintainingsteering control.
If your vehicle slows down and you resumecontrol, a message appears to prompt youto press the accelerator pedal to allow thesystem to resume.
Note:If the system detects repeatedinactivity, it disables until the next key cycle.
