HOW DOES ALL-WHEEL DRIVE
WORK - EXCLUDING: FX4 OFF
ROAD/TREMOR
The all-wheel drive system is designed tocontinuously monitor and adjust powerdelivery to the front and rear wheels tooptimize both traction and handling. TheAWD system turns on when needed anddoes not require input from you.
Your all-wheel drive vehicle is not intendedfor off-road use. The AWD feature givesyour vehicle some limited off-roadcapabilities in which driving surfaces arerelatively level, obstruction-free andotherwise similar to normal on-road drivingconditions. Operating your vehicle inconditions other than those, could subjectthe vehicle to excess stress which mightresult in damage which is not coveredunder your warranty.
HOW DOES ALL-WHEEL DRIVE
WORK - FX4 OFF ROAD/
TREMOR
All-wheel drive uses all four wheels topower the vehicle. This increases traction, enabling you to drive over terrain and roadconditions that a conventional two-wheeldrive vehicle cannot. The AWD systemturns on when needed and does not requireinput from you.
Four-Wheel Drive Lock (If Equipped)
The four-wheel drive lock increasesperformance by preventing the front andrear axles from disconnecting. You canactivate and deactivate the four-wheeldrive lock on the fly by pressing the buttonon the drive mode control. It also engagesbased on certain selected drive modes.See Selecting a Drive Mode (page 230).
Note:The four-wheel drive lock is notintended for use on dry pavement. Using thelock on dry pavement can produce excessivenoise, increase tire and vehicle wear.
The 4WD lock indicatorilluminates in the instrumentcluster when in use. When instandby mode, the light displays gray. When active, the light changes color.
Rear Differential Lock (If Equipped)
This feature provides additional tractionon loose or steep terrain, or should yourvehicle become stuck. You can activateand deactivate the rear electronic lockingdifferential feature while moving within theoperating speed range by pressing thebutton on the drive mode control. Thefeature disengages when the vehicle speedexceeds a set value and it re-engageswhen the vehicle speed goes below a setvalue. It also engages based on certainselected drive modes. See Selecting aDrive Mode (page 230).
The rear electronic locking differential isfor use in mud, rocks, sand or off-roadconditions where you need maximumtraction. It is not for use on dry pavement.

Note:This feature is for off-road use onlyand is not for use on dry pavement. Usingthe rear electronic locking differentialfeature on dry pavement can produceexcessive noise, and increase tire andvehicle wear. Operating your vehicle in theseconditions could subject your vehicle toexcessive stress, which may result indamage not covered under your warranty.
The rear electronic lockingdifferential indicator illuminatesin the instrument cluster displaywhen in use. When the rear electroniclocking differential is in standby mode, theindicator is gray. When it is active, theindicator changes color.
ALL-WHEEL DRIVE
PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Do not becomeoverconfident in the ability of all-wheeldrive vehicles. Although an all-wheeldrive vehicle may accelerate better thana two-wheel drive vehicle in low tractionsituations, it won't stop any faster thantwo-wheel drive vehicles. Always driveat a safe speed.
ALL-WHEEL DRIVE
LIMITATIONS
Using different size tires other than theprovided spare could cause systemdamage or disable the all-wheel drivesystem.

Press the button on the center console toturn the system On and Off.
Note:You can only switch the system onafter you close the driver door.
Note:The system remembers the lastsetting when you start your vehicle.
Note:When using an automatic car wash, make sure to switch auto hold off, or shiftto neutral (N) with the brake pedal appliedto ensure auto hold is not active.
USING AUTO HOLD
1.Bring your vehicle to a complete stop. The auto hold active indicatorilluminates in the information display.
2.Release the brake pedal. The systemholds your vehicle at a standstill. Theauto hold active indicator remainsilluminated in the information display.
3.Apply the accelerator and drive off ina normal manner. The system releasesthe brakes and the auto hold activeindicator switches off.
Note:The system only activates if youapply enough brake pressure on the brakepedal to bring the vehicle to a standstill.
Note:Under certain conditions, the systemcould apply the electric parking brake. Thebrake system warning lamp illuminates. Theelectric parking brake releases when youpress the accelerator pedal. SeeAutomatically Releasing the ElectricParking Brake (page 195).
Note: While Auto Hold is applying thebrakes, if you shift into reverse (R) or neutral(N) with your foot on the brake pedal, AutoHold will release the brake. However, whileAuto Hold is applying the brakes, if you shiftinto reverse (R) without your foot on thebrake pedal, Auto Hold will continue toapply the brakes. In this case, the driverpressing the brake pedal will cause AutoHold to release the brake.
There could be actions that can cause theauto hold system not to work when thefollowing occur:
•When you use active park assist.
•Your vehicle is in stay in neutral mode.
•The driver door is open.
•You shift into reverse (R) or neutral (N)before the system is active.

ELECTRIC POWER STEERING
HOW DOES ELECTRIC POWERSTEERING WORK
Adaptive Learning
Adaptive learning helps correct roadirregularities and improves overall handlingand steering. The system assists the brakesystem to help operate advanced stabilitycontrol and accident avoidance systems.
If your vehicle loses electrical power ordetects a concern when you are driving, the system switches off and you retainnormal steering function. Additionally, whenever you disconnect the battery orinstall a new battery, drive your vehicle ashort distance before the system relearnsthe strategy and reactivates all systems.
Steering Tips
If the steering wanders or pulls, check for:
•An improperly inflated tire.
•Uneven tire wear.
•Loose or worn suspensioncomponents.
•Improper vehicle alignment.
Note:A high crown in the road or highcrosswinds could also make the steeringwander or pull.
ELECTRIC POWER STEERINGPRECAUTIONS
WARNING: The electric powersteering system has diagnostic checksthat continuously monitor the system. Ifa fault is detected, a message displaysin the information display. Stop yourvehicle as soon as it is safe to do so.
Switch the vehicle off. After at least 10seconds, switch the vehicle on andwatch the information display for asteering system warning message. If asteering system warning messagereturns, have the system checked assoon as possible.
WARNING: If the system detectsan error, you may not feel a difference inthe steering, however a serious conditionmay exist. Have your vehicle checked assoon as possible. Failure to do so mayresult in loss of steering control.
Adapt your speed and driving behavioraccording to reduced steering assist.
Extreme continuous steering may increasethe effort to steer. This occurs to preventinternal overheating and damage to thesteering system. If this occurs, you will notlose the ability to steer your vehiclemanually nor will it cause damage to thesystem. Normal steering and driving allowsthe system to cool down and steeringassist returns to normal.
Note:There is no fluid reservoir to check orfill.
