FRONT SEAT PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Sitting improperly, outof position or with the seatback reclinedtoo far can take weight off the seatcushion and affect the decision of thepassenger sensing system, resulting inserious injury or death in the event of acrash. Always sit upright against yourseat back, with your feet on the floor.
WARNING: Do not recline the seatbackrest too far as this can cause theoccupant to slide under the seatbelt,resulting in personal injury in the eventof a crash.
WARNING: Do not place objectshigher than the top of the seat backrest.Failure to follow this instruction couldresult in personal injury or death in theevent of a sudden stop or crash.
WARNING: Do not adjust the driverseat or seat backrest when your vehicleis moving. This may result in sudden seatmovement, causing the loss of controlof your vehicle.
SITTING IN THE CORRECT
POSITION
When you use them properly, the seat,head restraint, seatbelt and airbags willprovide optimum protection in the eventof a crash.
We recommend that you follow theseguidelines:
•Sit in an upright position with the baseof your spine as far back as possible.
•Do not recline the seat backrest so thatyour torso is more than 30 degreesfrom the upright position.
•Adjust the head restraint so that thetop of it is level with the top of yourhead and as far forward as possible.Make sure that you remaincomfortable.
•Keep sufficient distance betweenyourself and the steering wheel. Werecommend a minimum of 10 in(25 cm) between your breastbone andthe airbag cover.
•Hold the steering wheel with your armsslightly bent.

WARNING: Switching off theengine when your vehicle is still movingresults in a significant decrease inbraking assistance. Higher effort isrequired to apply the brakes and to stopyour vehicle. A significant decrease insteering assistance could also occur. Thesteering does not lock, but higher effortcould be required to steer your vehicle.When you switch the ignition off, someelectrical circuits, for example airbags,also turn off. If you unintentionally switchthe ignition off, shift into neutral (N) andrestart the engine.
1.Press and hold the push button ignitionswitch until the engine stops, or pressit three times within two seconds.
2.Shift into neutral and use the brakes tobring your vehicle to a safe stop.
3.Shift into park (P).
4.Apply the parking brake.

SNOW PLOWING

WARNING: Modifying or addingequipment to the front of your vehiclecould affect the performance of theairbag system, increasing the risk ofinjury. This includes the hood, bumpersystem, frame, front body structure, towhooks, hood pins, push bar andsnowplows.
WARNING: Do not attempt toservice, repair, or modify thesupplementary restraint system orassociated components. Failure tofollow this instruction could result inpersonal injury or death.
WARNING: All occupants of yourvehicle, including the driver, shouldalways properly wear their seatbelts,even when an airbag supplementalrestraint system is provided. Failure toproperly wear your seatbelt couldseriously increase the risk of injury ordeath.
WARNING: Do not spin the wheelsat over 34 mph (55 km/h). The tires mayfail and injure a passenger or bystander.
Note:Look for an alterer’s label on yourvehicle from the snowplow installercertifying that the installation meets allapplicable Federal Motor Vehicle SafetyStandards (FMVSS).
Note:Federal and some local regulationsrequire additional exterior lamps forsnowplow-equipped vehicles. Contact anauthorized dealer for additional information.
Note:Do not remove or defeat the trippingmechanisms designed into the snowremoval equipment by its manufacturer.Doing so could cause damage to yourvehicle and the snow removal equipmentas well as possible airbag deployment.
OPERATING YOUR VEHICLE
WITH A SNOWPLOW

A typical snowplow installation affects thefollowing:
•Front gross axle weight rating. SeeWhat Is the Gross Axle WeightRating (page 405).
•Gross vehicle weight rating. See WhatIs the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating(page 405).
•Braking and steering.
•Front wheel toe. See the FordWorkshop Manual.
•Headlight aim. See Adjusting theHeadlamps (page 515).
•Tire air pressure. See Information onthe Tire Sidewall (page 538).
Note:Do not exceed the front gross axleweight rating or gross vehicle weight rating.
Note:Your vehicle may require rear ballastweight for proper braking and steering.
Your vehicle has a driver and passengerairbag supplemental restraint system. Thesupplemental restraint system activatesin certain frontal and offset frontalcollisions when the vehicle sustainssufficient longitudinal deceleration.

When operating your vehicle with asnowplow:
•Do not exceed 45 mph (72 km/h).
•Your engine could run at a highertemperature than normal.
•If you are driving more than 15 mi(24 km) at temperatures abovefreezing, angle the plow bladeeither full left or full right to providemaximum airflow to the radiator.
•If you are driving less than 15 mi(24 km) at speeds up to 45 mph(72 km/h) in cold weather, you donot need to worry about bladeposition to provide maximumairflow.
•Shift to 4L when plowing in small areasat speeds below 5 mph (8 km/h).
•Shift to 4H when plowing larger areasor light snow at higher speeds above5 mph (8 km/h). Do not exceed15 mph (24 km/h).
•Do not shift the transmission from aforward gear to reverse (R) until theengine is at idle and the wheels havestopped.
Note:Careless or high-speed driving whensnowplowing, which results in significantvehicle decelerations, can deploy the airbag.Such driving also increases the risk ofaccidents.
Note:Drive your vehicle at least 500 mi(800 km) before using your vehicle forsnowplowing.
SNOWPLOW MODE
WHAT IS SNOWPLOW MODE
Snowplow mode reduces vehicle electricalload to allow the electrical system to havesufficient power to support residentialsnowplow use.
SWITCHING SNOWPLOW MODEON AND OFF
Vehicles receive a physical button in theinstrument panel or an option in the SYNCmenu to enable snowplow mode.
Snowplow mode does not remember thesetting when you switch your vehicle off.You must re-enable the mode every timeyou wish to use it.
The following features turn off and aredisabled in snowplow mode and cannotbe turned back on until snowplow modeis switched off:
•120 V inverter.
•Fog lamps.
•Heated and cooled front seats.
The body module also activates thesnowplow relay that provides power toaftermarket snowplow controls.
Note:The electrical system supports theaddition of a residential snowplow of up to60 A continuous, and snowplow lights ofup to 20 A continuous using snowplowmode. The system does not supportsnowplow usage with additional electricalaftermarket accessories.
Push Button (If Equipped)
Press the snowplow button on theinstrument panel to switch on snowplowmode. The snowplow button illuminatesand a message displays.
Press the snowplow button or switch offthe vehicle to switch off snowplow mode.
Using SYNC (If Equipped)
1.Press Features on the touchscreen.
2.Press Snow Plow Mode.
3.Switch Snow Plow Mode on or off.

Removing the Jumper Cables
Remove the jumper cables in the reverseorder that they were connected.
Note:Do not switch the headlamps onwhen disconnecting the cables. The peakvoltage could blow the bulbs.
POST-CRASH ALERT SYSTEM
WHAT IS THE POST-CRASHALERT SYSTEM
The system helps draw attention to yourvehicle in the event of a serious impact.
HOW DOES THE POST-CRASHALERT SYSTEM WORK
The system is designed to turn the hazardflashers on, turn the courtesy lamps on,intermittently sound the horn and unlockall doors in the event of a serious impactthat deploys an airbag or the seatbeltpretensioners.
POST-CRASH ALERT SYSTEMLIMITATIONS
Depending on applicable laws in thecountry your vehicle was built for, the horndoes not sound in the event of a seriousimpact.
SWITCHING THE POST-CRASHALERT SYSTEM OFF
Press the hazard flasher switch, the unlockbutton on the remote control, the panicbutton on the remote control or cycle theignition to switch the system off.
Note:The alert turns off when the vehiclebattery runs out of charge.
AUTOMATIC CRASH SHUTOFF
WHAT IS AUTOMATIC CRASHSHUTOFF
The automatic crash shutoff is designedto stop the fuel going to the engine in theevent of a moderate or severe crash.
Note:Not every impact causes a shutoff.
AUTOMATIC CRASH SHUTOFFPRECAUTIONS
WARNING: If your vehicle has beeninvolved in a crash, have the fuel systemchecked. Failure to follow this instructioncould result in fire, personal injury ordeath.
RE-ENABLING YOUR VEHICLE
1.Switch the ignition off.
2.Attempt to start your vehicle.
3.Switch the ignition off.
4.Attempt to start your vehicle.
Note:If your vehicle does not start after thethird attempt, have your vehicle checked assoon as possible.

CLEANING THE INTERIOR
CLEANING THE INSTRUMENTPANEL
WARNING: Do not use chemicalsolvents or strong detergents whencleaning the steering wheel orinstrument panel to avoid contaminationof the airbag system.
We recommend that you only clean theinstrument panel and cluster lens with adamp soft cloth. Dry the area with a clean,soft cloth.
For additional information and assistance,we recommend that you contact anauthorized dealer.
Note:Avoid cleaners or polishes thatincrease the gloss of the upper portion ofthe instrument panel. The dull finish in thisarea helps protect you from undesirablewindshield reflection.
CLEANING PLASTIC
We recommend that you only use a mildsoap and water solution on a soft cloth.Dry the area with a clean, soft cloth.
CLEANING DISPLAYS ANDSCREENS
We recommend that you only use amicrofiber cloth in a circular motion toclean off the fingerprint or dust.
If dirt or fingerprints are still on the screen,apply a small amount of alcohol to thecloth and try to clean it again.
Note:Do not pour or spray alcohol onto thetouchscreen.
Note: Do not use detergent or any type ofsolvent to clean the touchscreen.
CLEANING FABRIC
WARNING: On vehicles equippedwith seat-mounted airbags, do not usechemical solvents or strong detergents.Such products could contaminate theside airbag system and affectperformance of the side airbag in a crash.
We recommend that you only clean fabricin the following way:
1.Remove dust and loose dirt with avacuum cleaner.
2.Wipe the surface with a soft, dampcloth and a mild soap and watersolution. Dry the area with a clean, softcloth.
3.For additional information andassistance, we recommend that youcontact an authorized dealer.
For heavy stains, spot clean the area. If aring forms on the fabric, clean the entirearea immediately, but do not oversaturateor the ring could set.

3.Make sure the leather is dry, then applya small amount of conditioner to aclean, dry cloth.
4.Rub the conditioner into the leatheruntil it disappears. Allow theconditioner to dry, then repeat theprocess for the entire interior. If a filmappears, wipe it off with a dry, cleancloth.

CLEANING MOONROOF TRACKS
1.Remove debris from the tracks with avacuum cleaner.
2.Wipe the bulb seal and mating paintedroof metal surface with a soft, dampcloth and a mild soap and watersolution.
Note:The moonroof rail tracks are greasedto maintain proper functionality. Do notwipe off the grease.
