The system limits of Tra1c Sign Assist apply to
th e de tection of tra1c signs (/ page 255).
Speed limits below 20 km/h are not automatical ly
adop tedby the system as the stored speed. Tem-
porary speed restrictions (e.g. for a cer tain time
or due towe ather conditions) cann otbe proper ly
de tected bythe system. The maximum permissi-
ble speed applying toave hicle with a trailer is not
de tected bythe system.

When Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC is activa-
te d, theve hicle speed will be adap ted accordingly
to thero ute events ahead. Depending on the drive
prog ram selected, theve hicle neg otiates a route
ev ent ahead in a fuel-saving, comfor table or
dynamic manner. When thero ute event has been
passed, theve hicle accelerates again tothe
stored speed. The set distance totheve hicle in
front, vehicles de tected ahead and speed restric-
tions ahead are take n into account.
Ro ute-based speed adap tation can be activa ted in
th e multimedia system (/ page 244).
The following route events are take n into account:
R Bends
R Roundabouts
R T-junctions
R Turns and exits R
Tra1c jams ahead (only with Live Tra1c )
Also, the speed is reduced if the turn signal indi-
cator is switched on and one of thefo llowing sit-
uations is de tected:
R Turning o. at junctions
R Driving on slowing-down lanes
R Driving on lanes adjacent toslowing-down
lanes
The driver is responsible forch oosing theright
speed and observing other road users. This
applies in particular tojunctions, roundabouts and
tra1c lights, as route-based speed adap tation
does not brake theve hicle toa standstill.
If a cor responding route event is de tected while
ro ute guidance is active, the /rst speed adjust-
ment is car ried out automaticall y.Ifth e turn signal
indicator is switched on, the selected route is
con/rmed and fur ther speed adjustment is activa-
te d.
Speed adap tation is cancelled in thefo llowing
cases:

Ac tive Emer gency Stop Assist issues thefo llowing

appears in the driver's displa y,a continuous
wa rning tone sounds, theve hicle no lon ger
accelerates, and there is a slight, repeated
te nsioning of the seat belt.
R The vehicle speed is reduced in increments
until it is at a standstill. Sharp brake impulses
are also produced.
Depending on the countr y,a lane change tothe
adjacent right-hand lane is carr ied out, if possible.
% It is only possible tochange across one lane
and only into theright-hand lane, and not
onto the hard shoulder. When automatic braking is initiated,
Active Dis-
ta nce Assist DISTRONIC is deactivated. Depend-
ing on the countr y,the hazard warning light sys-
te m is switched on.
When theve hicle is stationar y,thefo llowing
actions are car ried out:
R The vehicle is secured with the electric par k-
ing brake.
R The vehicle is unloc ked.
R If possible, an emer gency call is placed tothe
Mercedes-Benz emerg ency call centre.
Before automatic braking is initiated, you can can-
cel Active Emer gency Stop Assist bystee ring.
Yo u can cancel the inter vention byActive Emer-
ge ncy Stop Assist aTer automatic braking is initi-
ated byone of thefo llowing actions:
R Accelerating or braking: the emer gency stop is
cancelled, but thewa rning message ,wa rning
to ne and po wer steering remain active
R Steering: po wer-assis ted steering is cancelled,
th ewa rning message andwarning tone remain
active and theve hicle continues tobe braked %
Active Emer gency Stop Assist can initiate an
emer gency stop a maximum of thre e times
within one driving cycle. Subsequentl y,Ac tive
St eering Assist and Active Emer gency Stop
Assist are deactivated forth at driving cycle.

markings, Active Emer gency Stop Assist is not

Ac tive Lane Change Assist can be cancelled in

R The windscreen is dirty, misted up, damaged
or co vered in the vicinity of the camera, e.g.
by a stic ker.
R The sensors are damaged, co vered or dirty.
R No, or se veral, unclear lane markings are pres-
ent for one lane, or the markings change
qu ickl y,forex ample, in a construction area or
junctions.
R The system does not de tect a suitable road,
fo rex ample, in tight bends or shortly aTer a
slip road.
R The lane markings are wornawa y,dark or co v-
ered up, e.g. bydirt or sno w.
R Ifth e distance totheve hicle in front is too
short and thus the lane markings cannot be

If Ac tive Brake Assist has de tected a risk of colli-
sion, a warning tone sounds and theL dis-
ta nce warning lamp lights up. In
theAssistance menu, an insu1cient distance

ing tone occur simultaneously with the braking
application.
If yo u apply the brake yourself in a critical situa-
tion or apply the brake during autonomous brak-
ing, situation-dependent braking assistance
occurs. The brake pressure increases up tomaxi-

Tr a1c Sign Assist de tects tra1c signs with the
multifunction camera and compares this with
information in the digital navigation map. It assists
yo uby displaying de tected speed limits and over-
ta king restrictions in the driver's display and in
th e head-up displa y.The system can issue a warn-
ing when youex ceed the maximum permissible
speed.
In some countries, the system can pr ovide you
with fu rther functions and can warnyou when you
are approaching pedestrian crossings or when
yo u are about todrive past stop signs or red lights
unintentionall y.
The camera also de tects and anal yses tra1c
signs with a restriction indicated byan additional
sign (e.g. when wet).
Tr a1c Sign Assist portr ays only selected signs in
th e driver's displa y.Ac tual tra1c signs and speed
limits ha vepriority over tra1c signs and speed

rrecting brake application occurs,

appears in the driver's displa y.
In rare cases, the system may make an inappro-
priate brake application. This brake application
may be inter rupted at any time if you steer slightly

stee ring wheel. Active Lane Keeping Assist is
av ailable in the speed range between 60 km/h
and 200 km/h.
The system can inter vene in thefo llowing situa-
tions:

marking.
R One of your front wheels goes over a lane
marking.
If yo u activate the turn signal indicator, a steering
inter vention does not occur on the cor responding
side.
