QECB (Electronically Controlled
Brake System)
The electronically controlled system
generates braking force correspond-
ing to the brake operation
QABS (Anti-lock Brake System)
Helps to prevent wheel lock when the
brakes are applied suddenly, or if the
brakes are applied while driving on a
slippery road surface
QBrake assist
Generates an increased level of brak-
ing force after the brake pedal is
depressed when the system detects a
panic stop situation
QVSC (Vehicle Stability Control)
Helps the driver to control skidding
when swerving suddenly or turning on
slippery road surfaces.
QEnhanced VSC (Enhanced Vehi-
cle Stability Control)
Provides cooperative control of the
ABS, TRAC, VSC and EPS. Helps to maintain directional stability
when swerving on slippery road sur-
faces by controlling steering perfor-
mance.
QSecondary Collision Brake
When the SRS airbag sensor detects a
collision and the system operates, the
brakes and brake lights are automati-
cally controlled to reduce the vehicle
speed and help reduce the possibility
of further damage due to a secondary
collision
QTRAC (Traction Control)
Helps to maintain drive power and
prevent the drive wheels from spinning
when starting the vehicle or accelerat-
ing on slippery roads
QActive Cornering Assist (ACA)
Helps to prevent the vehicle from drift-
ing to the outer side by performing
inner wheel brake control when
attempting to accelerate while turning
QHill-start assist control
Helps to reduce the backward move-
ment of the vehicle when starting on an
uphill
QEPS (Electric Power Steering)
Employs an electric motor to reduce
the amount of effort needed to turn the
steering wheel
QAVS (Adaptive Variable Suspen-
sion system) (if equipped)
By independently controlling the
damping force of the shock absorbers
for each of the 4 wheels according to
the road and driving conditions, this

To keep driving safety and perfor-
mance, the following systems oper-
ate automatically in response to
various driving situations. Be
aware, however, that these systems
are supplementary and should not
be relied upon too heavily when
operating the vehicle.

Driving
QSounds and vibrations caused by the
ABS, brake assist, VSC, TRAC and hill-
start assist control systems
OA sound may be heard from the engine
compartment when the brake pedal is
depressed repeatedly, when the hybrid
system is started or just after the vehicle
begins to move. This sound does not indi-
cate that a malfunction has occurred in
any of these systems.
OAny of the following conditions may
occur when the above systems are oper-
ating. None of these indicates that a mal-
function has occurred.
• Vibrations may be felt through the vehi- cle body and steering.
• A motor sound may be heard also after the vehicle comes to a stop.
QECB operating sound
ECB operating sound may be heard in the
following cases, but it does not indicate that
a malfunction has occurred.
OOperating sound heard from the engine
compartment when the brake pedal is
operated.
OMotor sound of the brake system heard
from the front part of the vehicle when
the driver’s door is opened.
OOperating sound heard from the engine
compartment when one or two minutes
passed after the stop of the hybrid sys-
tem.
QActive Cornering Assist operation
sounds and vibrations
When the Active Cornering Assist is oper-
ated, operation sounds and vibrations may
be generated from the brake system, but
this is not a malfunction.
QEPS operation sound
When the steering wheel is operated, a
motor sound (whirring sound) may be
heard. This does not indicate a malfunction.
QAutomatic reactivation of TRAC and
VSC systems
After turning the TRAC and VSC systems
off, the systems will be automatically re-
enabled in the following situations:
OWhen the power switch is turned off
OIf only the TRAC system is turned off, the
TRAC will turn on when vehicle speed
increases
If both the TRAC and VSC systems are
turned off, automatic re-enabling will not
occur when vehicle speed increases.
QSecondary Collision Brake operating
conditions
The system operates when the SRS airbag
sensor detects a collision while the vehicle
is in motion.
However, the system does not operate
when the components are damaged.
QSecondary Collision Brake automatic
cancellation
The system is automatically canceled in any
of the following situations.
OThe vehicle speed drops to approxi-
mately 6 mph (10 km/h)
OA certain amount of time elapses during
operation
OThe accelerator pedal is depressed a
large amount
QOperating conditions of Active Corner-
ing Assist
The system operates when the following
occurs.
OTRAC/VSC can operate
OThe driver is attempting to accelerate
while turning
OThe system detects that the vehicle is
drifting to the outer side
OThe brake pedal is released
QReduced effectiveness of the EPS sys-
tem
The effectiveness of the EPS system is
reduced to prevent the system from over-
heating when there is frequent steering
input over an extended period of time. The
steering wheel may feel heavy as a result.
Should this occur, refrain from excessive
steering input or stop the vehicle and turn
the hybrid system off. The EPS system
should return to normal within 10 minutes.

parking in hot weather
QBrake pads and calipers
Rust may form if the vehicle is parked with
wet brake pads or disc rotors, causing them
to stick. Before parking the vehicle after it is
washed, drive slowly and apply the brakes
several times to dry the parts.
QBumpers
Do not scrub with abrasive cleaners.
QFront side windows water-repellent
coating
OThe following precautions can extend the
effectiveness of the water-repellent coat-
ing.
• Remove any dirt, etc. from the front side
windows regularly.
• Do not allow dirt and dust to accumulate on the windows for a long period.
Clean the windows with a soft, damp
cloth as soon as possible.
• Do not use wax or glass cleaners that
contain abrasives when cleaning the win-
dows.
• Do not use any metallic objects to
remove condensation build up.
OWhen the water-repellent performance
has become insufficient, the coating can
be repaired. Contact your Lexus dealer.
QPlated portions
If dirt cannot be removed, clean the parts as
follows:
OUse a soft cloth dampened with an
approximately 5% solution of neutral
detergent and water to clean the dirt off.
OWipe the surface with a dry, soft cloth to
remove any remaining moisture.
OTo remove oily deposits, use alcohol wet
wipes or a similar product.
WARNING
QWhen washing the vehicle
Do not apply water to the inside of the
engine compartment. Doing so may
cause the electrical components etc. to
catch fire.
QWhen cleaning the windshield (vehi-
cles with rain-sensing windshield wip-
ers)
Set the wiper switch to off.
If the wiper switch is in “AUTO”, the wip-
ers may operate unexpectedly in the fol-
lowing situations, and may result in hands
being caught or other serious injuries
and cause damage to the wiper blades.

OWhen the upper part of the windshield
where the raindrop sensor is located is
touched by hand
OWhen a wet rag or similar is held close
to the raindrop sensor
OIf something bumps against the wind-
shield
OIf you directly touch the raindrop sen-
sor body or if something bumps into
the raindrop sensor
QPrecautions regarding the exhaust
pipes
As exhaust gases cause the exhaust
pipes to become quite hot, do not touch
the exhaust pipes while the hybrid system
is operating or immediately after the
hybrid system is turned off.
When washing the vehicle, be careful not
to touch the exhaust pipes until they have
cooled sufficiently, as touching hot
exhaust pipes can cause burns.

In some cases, the buzzer may not be heard
due to being in a noisy location or audio
sound.
QFront passenger detection sensor, seat
belt reminder and warning buzzer
OIf luggage is placed on the front passen-
ger seat, the front passenger detection
sensor may cause the warning light to
flash and the warning buzzer to sound
even if a passenger is not sitting in the
seat.
OIf a cushion is placed on the seat, the sen-
sor may not detect a passenger, and the
warning light may not operate properly.
QSRS warning light
This warning light system monitors the air-
bag sensor assembly, front impact sensors,
side impact sensors (front door), side
impact sensors (front), side impact sensors
(rear), driver’s seat position sensor, driver’s
seat belt buckle switch, front passenger
occupant classification system (ECU and
sensors), “PASSENGER AIR BAG” indica- tor lights, front passenger’s seat belt buckle
switch, seat belt pret
ensioners, airbags,
interconnecting wiring and power sources.

QElectric power steering system warning
light (warning buzzer)
When the 12-volt battery charge becomes
insufficient or the voltage temporarily
drops, the electric power steering system
warning light may come on and the warning
buzzer may sound.
QWhen the tire pressure warning light
comes on
Inspect the tires to check if a tire is punc-
tured.
If a tire is punctured: P.379
If none of the tires are punctured:
Turn the power switch off then turn it to ON
mode. Check if the tire pressure warning
light comes on or blinks.

Release the accelerator pedal and shift the
shift lever to D or R.
QIf “Accelerator pedal is pressed” is dis-

The accelerator pedal has been depressed
when the shift lever is in P.
Release the accelerator pedal.
QIf “Press brake when vehicle is stopped
Hybrid system may overheat” is dis-
played
The message may be displayed when the
accelerator pedal is depressed to hold the
vehicle while the vehicle is stopped on an
incline, etc. The hybrid system may over-
heat. Release the accelerator pedal and
depress the brake pedal.
QIf “Auto Power Off to Conserve Bat-
tery” is displayed
Power was turned off due to the automatic
power off function. Next time when starting
the hybrid system, operate the hybrid sys-
tem for approximately 5 minutes to
recharge the 12-volt battery.
QIf “High Power Consumption Power to
Climate Temporarily Limited” is dis-
played
Turn off unnecessary electronic equipment
to reduce power consumption.
Please wait until the power supply returns
to normal.
QIf “Headlight System Malfunction Visit
Your Dealer” is displayed
The following systems may be malfunction-
ing. Have the vehicle inspected by your
Lexus dealer immediately.
OThe LED headlight system
