1444-1. Before driving
Cargo capacity depends on the total
weight of the occupants.
(Cargo capacity) = (Total load capac-
ity)  (Total weight of occupants) Steps for Determining Correct Load
Limit

(1) Locate the statement “The com-
bined weight of occupants and cargo
should never exceed XXX kg or XXX
lbs.” on your vehicle’s placard.
(2) Determine the combined weight of
the driver and passengers that will be
riding in your vehicle.
(3) Subtract the combined weight of
the driver and passengers from XXX
kg or XXX lbs.
(4) The resulting figure equals the
available amount of cargo and luggage
load capacity.
For example, if the “XXX” amount
equals 1400 lbs. and there will be five
150 lb passengers in your vehicle, the
amount of available cargo and luggage
load capacity is 650 lbs. (1400 − 750
(5  150) = 650 lbs.)
(5) Determine the combined weight of
luggage and cargo being loaded on
the vehicle. That weight may not safely
exceed the available cargo and lug-
gage load capacity calculated in Step
4.
(6) If your vehicle will be towing a
trailer, load from your trailer will be
transferred to your vehicle. Consult
this manual to determine how this
reduces the available cargo and lug-
gage load capacity of your vehicle.
(  P.146)Lexus does not recommend towing a
trailer with your vehicle. Your vehicle is not
designed for trailer towing.
Cargo and luggage
Take notice of the following infor-
mation about storage precautions,
cargo capacity and load:
WARNING
QThings that must not be carried in the
trunk
The following things may cause a fire if
loaded in the trunk:
OReceptacles containing gasoline
OAerosol cans
QStorage precautions
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may prevent the pedals
from being depressed properly, may
block the driver’s vision, or may result in
items hitting the driver or passengers,
possibly causing an accident.
OStow cargo and luggage in the trunk
whenever possible.
ODo not place cargo or luggage in or on
the following locations.
• At the feet of the driver
• On the front passenger or rear seats (when stacking items)
• On the package tray
• On the instrument panel
• On the dashboard
• In front of the Center Display
OSecure all items in the occupant com-
partment.

These details are also described on the tire

Vehicle load limits
Vehicle load limits include total
load capacity, seating capacity,
towing capacity and cargo capac-
ity.
 Total load capacity (vehicle
capacity weight): P.402
Total load capacity means the com-
bined weight of occupants, cargo
and luggage.
 Seating capacity: P.402
Seating capacity means the maxi-
mum number of occupants whose
estimated average weight is 150 lb.
(68 kg) per person.
 Towing capacity
Lexus does not recommend towing
a trailer with your vehicle.
 Cargo capacity
Cargo capacity may increase or
decrease depending on the weight
and the number of occupants.
WARNING
QOverloading the vehicle
Do not overload the vehicle.
It may not only cause damage to the tires,
but also degrade steering and braking
ability, resulting in an accident.
Trailer towing
Lexus does not recommend towing
a trailer with your vehicle. Lexus
also does not recommend the
installation of a tow hitch or the use
of a tow hitch carrier for a wheel-
chair, scooter, bicycle, etc. Your
vehicle is not designed for trailer
towing or for the use of tow hitch
mounted carriers.

Driving
OHouse lights, street lights, traffic signals,
and illuminated billboards or signs may
cause the high beam to switch to the low
beams, or the low beams to remain on.
OThe following factors may affect the
amount of time taken to turn the high
beam on or off:
• The brightness of headlights, fog lights,
and tail lights of vehicles ahead
• The movement and direction of vehicles ahead
• When a vehicle ahead only has opera- tional lights on one side
• When a vehicle ahead is a two-wheeled
vehicle
• The condition of the road (gradient, curve, condition of the road surface etc.)
• The number of passengers and amount of luggage
OThe high beam may be turned on or off
when the driver does not expect it.
OBicycles or similar objects may not be
detected.
OIn the situations shown below, the system
may not be able to accurately detect sur-
rounding brightness levels. This may
cause the low beams to remain on or the
high beams to cause problems for pedes-
trians, vehicles ahead or other parties. In
these cases, manually switch between the
high and low beams.
• In bad weather (rain, snow, fog, sand-
storms etc.)
• The windshield is obscured by fog, mist, ice, dirt etc.
• The windshield is cracked or damaged
• The front camera is deformed or dirty
• When the temperature of the front cam- era is extremely high
• Surrounding brightness levels are equal to those of headlights, tail lights or fog
lights
• When headlights or tail lights of vehicles ahead are turned off, dirty, changing
color, or not aimed properly
• When the vehicle is hit by water, snow,
dust, etc. from a preceding vehicle
• When driving through an area of inter- mittently changing brightness and dark-
ness
• When frequently and repeatedly driving ascending/descending roads, or roads with rough, bumpy or uneven surfaces
(such as stone-paved roads, gravel roads
etc.)
• When frequently and repeatedly taking curves or driving on a winding road
• There is a highly reflective object ahead
of the vehicle, such as a sign or a mirror
• The back of a vehicle ahead is highly reflective, such as a container on a truck.
• The vehicle’s headlights are damaged or dirty
• The vehicle is listing or tilting, due to a flat
tire, a trailer being towed etc.
• The high beam and low beam are repeat- edly being switched between in an
abnormal manner
• The driver believes that the high beam may be causing problems or distress to
other drivers or pedestrians nearby
QTemporarily lowering sensor sensitivity
The sensitivity of the sensor can be tempo-
rarily lowered.
1 Turn the power switch off while the fol-
lowing conditions are met.
• The headlight switch is in or .
• The headlight switch lever is in low beam position.
• Automatic High Beam switch is on.
2 Turn the power switch to ON mode.
3 Within 60 seconds after 2, repeat pull-
ing the headlight switch lever to the
original position then pushing it to the
high beam position quickly 10 times,
then leave the lever in high beam posi-
tion.
4 If the sensitivity is changed, the Auto-
matic High Beam indicator turns on and
off 3 times.
Automatic High Beam (headlights) may
turn on even the vehicle is stopped.

• While steering into the direction of oncoming traffic
QSituations in which the system may not
operate properly
OIn some situations such as the following,
an object may not be detected by the
radar sensor and front camera, prevent-
ing the system from operating properly:
• When a detectable object is approaching
your vehicle
• When your vehicle or a detectable object is wobbling
• If a detectable object makes an abrupt maneuver (such as sudden swerving,
acceleration or deceleration)
• When your vehicle approaches a detect- able object rapidly
• When a detectable object is not directly
in front of your vehicle
• When a detectable object is near a wall, fence, guardrail, manhole cover, vehicle,
steel plate on the road, etc.
• When a detectable object is under a
structure
• When part of a detectable object is hid- den by an object, such as large baggage,
an umbrella, or guardrail
• When there are many things which can reflect the radio waves of the radar in the
vicinity (tunnels, truss bridges, gravel
roads, snow covered road that have
tracks, etc.)
• When there is an effect on the radio waves to the radar that is installed on another vehicle
• When multiple detectable objects are close together
• If the sun or other light is shining directly on a detectable object
• When a detectable object is a shade of
white and looks extremely bright
• When a detectable object appears to be nearly the same color or brightness as its
surroundings
• If a detectable object cuts or suddenly emerges in front of your vehicle
• When the front of your vehicle is hit by water, snow, dust, etc.
• When a very bright light ahead, such as
the sun or the headlights of oncoming
traffic, shines directly into the front cam-
era
• When approaching the side or front of a vehicle ahead
• If a vehicle ahead is a motorcycle
• If a vehicle ahead is narrow, such as a personal mobility vehicle
• If a preceding vehicle has a small rear
end, such as an unloaded truck
• If a preceding vehicle has a low rear end, such as a low bed trailer
• If a vehicle ahead has extremely high ground clearance
• If a vehicle ahead is carrying a load which protrudes past its rear bumper
• If a vehicle ahead is irregularly shaped, such as a tractor or side car
• If a vehicle ahead is a child sized bicycle, a bicycle that is carrying a large load, a

QSituations in which the curve speed
reduction function may not operate
In situations such as the following, the curve
speed reduction function may not operate:
OWhen the vehicle is being driven around
a gentle curve.
OWhen the accelerator pedal is being
depressed.
OWhen the vehicle is being driven around
an extremely short curve.
QBrake operation
A brake operation sound may be heard and
the brake pedal response may change, but
these are not malfunctions.
QWarning messages and buzzers for
dynamic radar cruise control with full-
speed range
Warning messages and buzzers are used to
indicate a system malfunction or to inform
the driver of the need for caution while driv-
ing. If a warning message is shown on the
multi-information displa y, read the message
and follow the instructions. ( P.180, 374)
QWhen the sensor may not be correctly
detecting the vehicle ahead
In the case of the following and depending
on the conditions, operate the brake pedal
when deceleration of the system is insuffi-
cient or operate the accelerator pedal
when acceleration is required.
As the sensor may not be able to correctly
detect these types of vehicles, the approach
warning ( P.210) may not be activated.
OVehicles that cut in suddenly
OVehicles traveling at low speeds
OVehicles that are not moving in the same
lane
OVehicles with small rear ends (trailers
with no load on board, etc.)
OMotorcycles traveling in the same lane
OWhen water or snow thrown up by the
surrounding vehicles hinders the detect-
ing of the sensor
OWhen your vehicle is pointing upwards
(caused by a heavy load in the luggage
compartment, etc.)
OPreceding vehicle has an extremely high
ground clearance
QConditions under wh ich the vehicle-to-
vehicle distance control mode may not
function correctly
In the case of the following conditions,
operate the brake pedal (or accelerator
pedal, depending on the situation) as nec-
essary.
As the sensor may not be able to correctly
detect vehicles ahead, the system may not
operate properly.
OWhen the road curves or when the lanes
are narrow
OWhen steering wheel operation or your
position in the lane is unstable

weather, such as heavy rain, snow, or fog.
OWhen multiple vehicles are approaching
with only a small gap between each vehi-
cle.
OWhen a vehicle is approaching at high
speed.
OWhen equipment that may obstruct a
sensor is installed, such as a towing eye-
let, bumper protector (an additional trim
strip, etc.), bicycle carrier, or snow plow.
OWhen backing up on a slope with a sharp
change in grade.
OWhen backing out of a sharp angle park-
ing spot.
OWhen towing a trailer.
OWhen there is a significant difference in
height between your vehicle and the
vehicle that enters the detection area.
OWhen a sensor or the area around a sen-
sor is extremely hot or cold.
OIf the suspension has been modified or
tires of a size other than specified are
installed.
OIf the front of the vehicle is raised or low-ered due to the carried load.
OWhen turning while backing up.
OWhen a vehicle turns into the detection
area.
QSituations in which the system may
operate even if there is no possibility of a
collision
Instances of the RCTA function unneces-
sarily detecting a vehicle and/or object may
increase in the following situations:
OWhen the parking space faces a street
and vehicles are being driven on the
street.
OWhen the distance between your vehicle
and metal objects, such as a guardrail,
wall, sign, or parked vehicle, which may
reflect electrical waves toward the rear of
the vehicle, is short.
