What to do in an emergency
Emergency towingIf towing is necessary, we recom-
mend you have it done by an
authorized Kia dealer or a com-
mercial tow truck service.
If towing service is not available in an
emergency, your vehicle may be
temporarily towed using a cable or
chain secured to the emergency tow-
ing hook under the front (or rear) of
the vehicle. Use extreme caution
when towing the vehicle. A driver
must be in the vehicle to steer it and
operate the brakes.
Towing in this manner may be done
only on hard-surfaced roads for a
short distance and at low speeds.
Also, the wheels, axles, power train,
steering and brakes must all be in
good condition.
 Do not use the towing hooks to pulla vehicle out of mud, sand or other
conditions from which the vehicle
cannot be driven out under its own
power.
 Avoid towing a vehicle heavier than the vehicle doing the towing.  The drivers of both vehicles should
communicate with each other fre-
quently.

CAUTION

 Use only a cable or chain specifically intended for usein towing vehicles. Securelyfasten the cable or chain tothe towing hook provided.
 Accelerate or decelerate the vehicle in a slow and gradualmanner while maintaining ten-sion on the tow rope or chainto start or drive the vehicle,otherwise tow hooks and thevehicle may be damaged.

 Before emergency towing, check
whether the hook is broken or
damaged.
 Fasten the towing cable or chain securely to the hook.
 Do not jerk the hook. Apply it steadily with even force.
 To avoid damaging the hook, do not pull from the side or at a vertical
angle. Always pull straight ahead.
 Use a towing strap less than 16feet (5 m) long. Attach a white or
red cloth (about 12 inches (30 cm)
wide) in the middle of the strap for
easy visibility.
 Drive carefully so that the towing strap is not loosened during tow-
ing.
 The driver must be in the vehicle for steering and braking operations
when the vehicle is towed and pas-
sengers other than the driver must
not be allowed to be on board.

 Avoid sudden starts or erratic driving maneuvers which
would place excessive stress
on the emergency towing hook
and towing cable or chain. The
hook and towing cable or
chain may break and cause
serious injury or damage.
 If the disabled vehicle is unable to be moved, do not
forcibly continue the towing.
In this case, contact an
authorized Kia dealer or a
commercial tow truck service
for assistance.
 Tow the vehicle as straight ahead as possible.
 Keep away from the vehicle during towing.

 Turn the ignition switch to ACC sothe steering wheel isn’t locked.
 Place the transmission shift lever in N (Neutral).
 Release the parking brake.
 Press the brake pedal with more force than normal since you will
have reduced brake performance.
 More steering effort will be required because the power steer-
ing system will be disabled.
 If you are driving down a long hill, the brakes may overheat and brake
performance will be reduced. Stop
often and let the brakes cool off.
 To avoid serious damage to the Intelligent Variable Transmission,
limit the vehicle speed to 10 mph
(15 km/h) and drive less than 1
mile (1.5 km) when towing. (for
Intelligent Variable Transmission
vehicle) If the car is being towed with all four
wheels on the ground, it can be
towed only from the front. Be sure
that the transmission is in neutral. Be
sure the steering is unlocked by plac-
ing the ignition switch in the ACC
position. A driver must be in the
towed vehicle to operate the steering
and brakes.CAUTION- Intelligent
Variable Transmission
Before towing, check for an Intelligent Variable Transmissionfluid leak under your vehicle. If theIntelligent Variable Transmissionfluid is leaking, a flatbed equip-ment or towing dolly must beused.

SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE SERVICE
Scheduled maintenance service precaution
Follow the Normal Maintenance Schedule if the vehicle is usually operated where none of the following conditions apply.
If any of the following conditions apply, follow the Maintenance Under Severe Usage Conditions.
 Repeated driving short distance of less than 5 miles (8 km) in normal temperature or less than 10 miles (16 km) infreezing temperature
 Extensive engine idling or low speed driving for long distances
 Driving on rough, dusty, muddy, unpaved, graveled or salt-spread roads
 Driving in areas using salt or other corrosive materials or in very cold weather
 Driving in heavy dust condition
 Driving in heavy traffic area
 Driving on uphill, downhill, or mountain road repeatedly
 Using for towing or camping and driving with loading on the roof.
 Driving as a patrol car, taxi, other commercial use of vehicle towing
 Frequently driving under high speed or rapid acceleration/deceleration
 Frequently driving in stop-and-go condition
If your vehicle is operated in any of the prior listed conditions, you should inspect, replace or refill more frequently, using the severe usage maintenance schedule instead of the normal usage maintenance schedule.

After 10 years or 100,000 miles (150,000 km), we recommend to use severe maintenance schedule.

ENGINE COOLANT
The high-pressure cooling system
has a reservoir filled with year round
antifreeze coolant. The reservoir is
filled at the factory.
Check the antifreeze protection and
coolant level at least once a year: at
the beginning of the winter season,
and before traveling to a colder cli-
mate.Checking the coolant level Turn the engine off and wait until it
cools down. Use extreme care
when removing the radiator cap.
Wrap a thick towel around it, and
turn it counterclockwise slowly to
the first stop. Step back while the
pressure is released from the cool-
ing system.
When you are sure all the pressure
has been released, press down on
the cap, using a thick towel, and
continue turning counterclockwise
to remove it.
 Even if the engine is not operating, do not remove the radiator cap or
the drain plug while the engine and
radiator are hot. Hot coolant and
steam may still blow out under
pressure, causing serious injury.
