Always place a portable fuel container on the
ground before filling it. Before removing the
container cap, touch the container with the
fuel dispenser nozzle. Keep fuel dispenser
nozzle in contact with container inlet when fill-
ing. WARNING! Never refill a fuel container
in the bed of any vehicle. Fire may result
from a build-up of static electricity. The
discharge of this build-up while refueling
can cause a spark and ignite the gasoline.[EWB03270]
EBU35680Engine oilMake sure the engine oil is at the specified
level. Add oil as necessary. (See page 9-16.)NOTICEECB03020 Do not use oils with a diesel specifica-
tion of “CD” or oils of a higher quality
than specified. In addition, do not use
oils labeled “ENE RGY CONSERVING II”
or higher.
Make sure that no foreign material en-
ters the oil tank.

EBU38630Why YamalubeYAMALUBE oil is a Genuine YAMAHA Partborn of the engineers’ passion and belief that
engine oil is an important liquid engine com-
ponent. We form teams of specialists in the
fields of mechanical engineering, chemistry,
electronics and track testing, and have them
develop the engine together with the oil it will use. Yamalube oils take full advantage of the
base oil’s qualities and blend in the ideal ba-
lance of additives to make sure the final oil
clears our performance standards. Thus,
Yamalube mineral, semisynthetic and syn-
thetic oils have their own distinct characters
and value. Yamaha’s experience gained over
many years of research and development into
oil since the 1960’s helps make Yamalube the
best choice for your Yamaha engine.

NOTICEECB02910When checking or changing the transmis-
sion oil, make sure that no foreign material
enters the transmission. If necessary,
clean the filler cap and surrounding area. To check the transmission oil level1. Park the vehicle on a level surface.
2. Remove panel B. (See page 9-10.)
3. Remove the transmission oil filler cap, wipe the dipstick clean, insert it back into
the transmission case (without screwing
it in), and then remove it again.
TIPThe transmission oil level should be between
the tip of the dipstick and the maximum level
mark. 4. If the oil level is at or below the tip of thedipstick, add oil.

TIPAdd a sufficient amount to raise to the maxi-
mum level mark, but do not overfill. 5. Check the O-ring for damage, and re-place it if necessary.
6. Install the transmission oil filler cap.
7. Install the panel.
To change the transmission oil 1. Place an oil pan under the transmission case to collect the used oil.
2. Remove the transmission oil filler cap.
3. Remove the transmission oil drain bolt and gasket.
TIPOil will flow out immediately when the drain
bolt is loosened. Take care not to lose the
bolt. 4. After draining the oil, install the transmis-sion oil drain bolt with a new gasket.

ters the final gear case. If necessary, clean
the final gear oil filler bolt and surrounding
area. Checking the final gear oil level1. Park the vehicle on a level surface.
2. Remove the final gear oil filler bolt and its
gasket, and then check the oil level in the
