Tread wear indicatorThe tread wear indicator shows the status of the tire's tread.
The tread wear indicator is a narrow elevated strip running across the tire's longitudinaltread grooves. The letters TWI (Tread WearIndicator) are visible on the side of the tire.When approximately 1.6 mm (1/16 inch) is lefton the tread, the tread will be at the sameheight as the tread wear indicator. Replace thetire as soon as possible. Tires with low treadoffer very poor traction in rain or snow.

The following is a glossary of tire-related terms.
The tire suppliers may have additional mark- ings, notes or warnings such as standard load,radial tubeless, etc.
Tire information placard
: A placard
showing the OE (Original Equipment) tiresizes, recommended inflation pressure,and the maximum weight the vehicle cancarry.
Tire Identification Number (TIN)
: A num-
ber on the sidewall of each tire providinginformation about the tire brand and man-ufacturing plant, tire size and date of man-ufacture.
Inflation pressure
: A measure of the
amount of air in a tire.
Standard load
: A class of P-metric or
Metric tires designed to carry a maximumload at 35 psi [37 psi (2.5 bar) for Metrictires]. Increasing the inflation pressurebeyond this pressure will not increase thetires load carrying capability.
Extra load
: A class of P-metric or Metric
tires designed to carry a heavier maximumload at 41 psi [43 psi (2.9 bar) for Metrictires]. Increasing the inflation pressurebeyond this pressure will not increase thetire's load carrying capability.
kPa
: Kilopascal, a metric unit of air pres-
sure.
PSI
: Pounds per square inch, a standard
unit of air pressure.
B-pillar
: The structural member at the
side of the vehicle behind the front door.
Bead area of the tire
: Area of the tire next
to the rim.
Sidewall of the tire
: Area between the
bead area and the tread.
Tread area of the tire
: Area of the perime-
ter of the tire that contacts the road whenmounted on the vehicle.
Rim
: The metal support (wheel) for a tire
or a tire and tube assembly upon whichthe tire beads are seated.
Maximum load rating
: A figure indicating
the maximum load in pounds and kilo-grams that can be carried by the tire. Thisrating is established by the tire manufac-turer.
Maximum permissible inflationpressure
: The greatest amount of air pres-
sure that should ever be put in the tire.This limit is set by the tire manufacturer.
Recommended tire inflation pressure
:
Inflation pressure, established by Volvo,which is based on the type of tires that aremounted on a vehicle at the factory. Thisinformation can be found on the tire infla-

Snow tires
Snow tires are designed for winter driving conditions.
Volvo recommends snow tires with specific dimensions. The tire dimensions vary depend-ing on engine type. When driving with snowtires, the correct type of tires must be moun-ted on all four wheels.
Tips for changing snow tiresWhen switching between regular tires andsnow tires, mark the tires according to whichside they were mounted on, e.g. L for left and
R for right.
Contact a Volvo retailer for assistance deter-mining the most suitable rims and tires.
Studded tiresStudded tires should be broken in by driving500–1000 km (300–600 miles) slowly andgently to help the studs settle properly in thetires. This gives the tire, and especially thestuds, a longer service life.
NOTE
Legal requirements concerning the use of studded tires may vary. Always follow locallaws and regulations.
Tread depthRoad conditions with ice, slush and low tem- peratures place considerably higher demands on tires than summer conditions. Volvo there-fore recommends not driving on snow tiresthat have a tread depth of less than 4 mm(0.15 inch).

Snow chainsUsing snow chains and/or snow tires can help improve traction in winter driving condi-tions.
Volvo does not recommend use of snow chains on wheel dimensions other than these 16

WARNING
Use Volvo genuine snow chains or equiva- lent snow chains that are suitable for thevehicle model and the tire and wheel sizes.Only
one-sided snow chains are permit-
ted. If uncertain about snow chains, Volvo rec- ommends contacting an authorized Volvoworkshop. Use of the wrong snow chainscould cause serious damage to the vehicleand result in an accident.
CAUTION
Snow chains can be used on the vehicle, with the following restrictions:
Always follow the manufacturer'sinstallation instructions carefully. Installchains as tightly as possible andretighten periodically.
Only put snow chains on the frontwheels (also applies to all-wheel drivevehicles).
If accessory, aftermarket or "custom"tires and wheels with different dimen-sions than the original tires and wheelsare used, snow chains in some casesmay NOT be used. Sufficient distancebetween the chains and brakes, sus-pension and body components mustbe maintained.
Check local regulations regarding theuse of snow chains before installing.
Never exceed the snow chain manu-facturer's specified maximum speedlimit. Under no circumstances shouldyou exceed 50 km/h (30 mph).
Avoid bumps, holes or sharp turnswhen driving with snow chains.
Avoid driving on surfaces without snow as this wears out both the snowchains and the tires.
The handling of the vehicle can beadversely affected when driving withchains. Avoid fast or sharp turns aswell as locked wheel braking.
Some types of strap-on chains affectbrake components and therefore mustNOT be used.
Consult a Volvo retailer for more information about snow chains.

Monthly:
Check cold tire pressure in all tires. Inspect the tires for wear.
Check that engine coolant and other fluidlevels are between the indicated "min"and "max" markings.
Clean interior glass surfaces with a glasscleaner and soft paper towels.
Wipe driver information displays with asoft cloth.
Visually inspect battery terminals for cor-rosion. Corrosion may indicate a loose ter-minal connector, or a battery near the endof its useful service life. Consult your Volvoretailer for additional information.
As needed:
Wash the vehicle, including the undercarriage, to reduce wear that can be caused by abuildup of dirt, and corrosion that can becaused by salt residues. Clean leaves and twigs from air intake vents at the base of the windshield, and from other pla-ces where they may collect.

Data transfer between vehicle and workshop over Wi-Fi
Volvo workshops have a designated Wi-Fi network for data transfer between your vehi-cle and the workshop. Your visit to the work-shop will be easier and more effective whendiagnostics information and software can betransferred over the workshop's network.
At the workshop, your service technician can connect your vehicle to the workshop's Wi-Finetwork to perform troubleshooting anddownload software. For this type of communi-cation, the vehicle only connects to a work-shop's network. It is not possible to connectthe vehicle to another Wi-Fi network (e.g. yourhome network) in the same way as to a work-shop's network.
Connecting with remote keyConnection is usually managed by the servicetechnician, who will use the remote key but-tons. It is therefore important to bring a keywith buttons with you when you visit theworkshop. Pressing the lock button on theremote key three times will connect the vehi-cle to the workshop's Wi-Fi network. When the car is connected to a Wi-Fi net- work, the
symbol appears in the center
display.

Replacing bulbs
This vehicle is equipped with only LED 15
lights, which means it does not have any replaceable bulbs. Contact a workshop 14
if
you experience any problems with the light- ing. If there is a problem with an LED 15
light, the
entire lamp unit will normally need to be replaced.
NOTE
For information on lights not mentioned in the Owner's Manual, contact a Volvoretailer or an authorized Volvo workshop.
NOTE
Exterior lighting such as headlights and taillights may develop temporary conden-sation on the inside of the lens. This is nor-mal. All exterior lighting is designed toresist this. Condensation is normally ven-ted out of the lamp housing once the lighthas been lit for some period of time.
NOTE
Bulbs for Active Bending Lights * contain
traces of mercury and should therefore always be deposited at an authorized Volvoworkshop.
Cleaning the interior
Use cleaning agents and car care products recommended by Volvo. Clean regularly andtreat stains immediately. It is important tovacuum before using a cleaning agent.
CAUTION
Some colored clothing (for example, dark jeans and suede garments) maystain the upholstery. If this occurs, it isimportant to clean and treat theseparts of the upholstery as soon as pos-sible.
Never use strong solvents such aswasher fluid, gasoline, mineral spirit orconcentrated alcohol to clean the inte-rior as this can damage the upholsteryas well as other interior materials.
Never spray cleaning agent directlyonto components that have electricalbuttons and controls. Wipe insteadwith a damp cloth with cleaning agent.
Sharp objects and Velcro can damagethe car's textile upholstery.
Only use cleaning agent on the type ofmaterial it is intended for.
