■The Parking Support Brake func- tion (static object) will operate
when
The function will operate when the
PKSB OFF indicator is not illuminated ( →P.170, 171) and all of the following
conditions are met:
●Hybrid system outpu t restriction con-
trol
• The Parking Support Brake is enabled.
• The vehicle speed is approximately 15
km/h (9 mph) or less. • There is a static object in the traveling
direction of the v ehicle and approxi-
mately 2 to 4 m (6 to 13 ft.) away. • The Parking Support Brake deter -
mines that a stronger-than-normal
brake operation is n ecessary to avoid a collision.
●Brake control• Hybrid system outpu t restriction con-

●If the area around a radar sensor is
subjected to an im pact, the system
may not operate properly due to a sensor malfunction. Have the vehi -
cle inspected by any authorized
Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
■Handling the suspension
Do not modify the suspension, as changes to the height or inclination of
the vehicle may pr event the sensors
from detecting objects correctly or cause the system to not operate or
operate unnecessarily.
■If the Parking Support Brake
function (static objects) operates
unnecessarily, such as at a rail - road crossing
In the event that the Parking Support
Brake function (sta tic objects) oper- ates unnecessarily, such as at a rail-
road crossing, brake control will be
canceled after appr oximately 2 sec- onds, allowing you to proceed forward
and leave the area, brake control can
also be canceled by depressing the brake pedal. Depressing the acceler -
ator pedal after brake control is can -
celed will allow you to proceed forward and leav e the area.
■Notes when washing the vehicle
Do not apply intensive bursts of water
or steam to the sensor area.
Doing so may resul t in the sensor malfunctioning.
●When using a high pressure washer to wash the vehicle, do not
spray the sensors directly, as doing
so may cause a sensor to malfunc - tion.
●When using steam to clean the vehicle, do not direct steam too
close to the sensors as doing so
may cause a sensor to malfunction.
■When to disable the Parking Sup - port Brake
In the following situations, disable the
Parking Support Brake as the system may operate even t hough there is no
possibility of a collision.
●When inspecting t he vehicle using
a chassis roller, chassis dynamo or
free roller
●When loading the vehicle onto a
boat, truck or other transport vessel
●If the suspension has been modi -
fied or tires of a size other than specified are installed
●If the front of the vehicle is raised or lowered due to the carried load
●When equipment that may obstruct a sensor is instal led, such as a tow-
ing eyelet, bumper protector (an
additional trim st rip, etc.), bicycle carrier, or snow plow
●When using an autom atic car wash

Observe the following precautions
regarding the rear radar sensors
( →P.408). Failure to do so may cause
a sensor to not ope rate properly, and may cause an accident.
●Do not modify, disassemble or paint the sensors.
●Do not replace a rear radar sensor with a part other than a genuine
part.
●Do not damage the rear radar sen -
sors, and always keep the radar
sensors and their surrounding area on the bumper clean.
●If the area around a rear radar sen - sor is subjected to an impact, the
system may not operate properly
due to a sensor malfunction. Have the vehicle inspected by any autho -
rized Toyota retailer or Toyota
authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
●Observe the rear radar sensor han - dling precautions. ( →P.408)

approximately 24 km/h (15 mph)*: Depending on the conditions, detec-
tion of a vehicle and/or object may
occur.
■Situations in which the system may
operate even though there is no possibility of a collision
In some situations such as the following,
the Parking Support Brake function (rear-crossing vehicles) may operate
even though there is n o possibility of a
collision.
●When the parking space faces a
street and vehicles are being driven on the street
●When a detected vehicle turns while approaching the vehicle
●When a vehicle passe s by the side of your vehicle
●When the distance between your vehi -
cle and metal objects, such as a guardrail, wall, sign, or parked vehicle,
which may reflect electrical waves
toward the rear of the vehicle, is short
●When there are spinning objects near
your vehicle such as the fan of an air conditioning unit
●When water is spla shed or sprayed toward the rear bumper, such as from
a sprinkler
■Situations in which the Parking
Support Brake function (rear-cross - ing vehicles) may not operate prop -
erly
In some situations, s uch as the follow- ing, the radar sensors may not detect an
object and this function may not operate
properly
●Stationary objects
●When a sensor or the area around a
sensor is extremely hot or cold
●If the rear bumper is covered with ice,
snow, dirt, etc.
●When it is raining heavily or water
strikes the vehicle
●When the detection area of a radar
sensor is obstruct ed by an adjacent
vehicle
●If the vehicle is significantly tilted
●When equipment that may obstruct a
sensor is installed , such as a towing
eyelet, bumper protector (an addi - tional trim str ip, etc.), bicycle carrier,
or snow plow
●If the suspension has been modified or tires of a size o ther than specified
are installed
●If the front of the v ehicle is raised or
lowered due to the carried load
●If a sticker or an electronic compo -

1Eco drive mode
Suitable for driving to improve fuel
economy by more smoothly generating
torque in response to accelerator pedal
operations compared to normal mode
and restraining air conditioning system
operations (heating/cooling).
When the switch is turned to the left
while not in Eco drive mode, the system
switches to Eco dr ive mode and the
Eco drive mode indic ator illuminates on
the multi-information display.
2 Normal mode
Suitable for normal driving.
The driving mode returns to normal
mode if the switch is pressed while in
Eco drive mode or sport mode.
3 Sport mode
Controls the steering feeling and hybrid
system to create an acceleration
response that is suita ble for sporty driv-
ing. Suitable for when crisp handling is
desired, such as when driving on
mountainous roads.
When the switch is tu rned to the right
while not in sport m ode, the system
switches to sport mode and the sport
mode indicator illuminates on the multi-
information display.
■When changing to a driving mode
other than normal mode
●The background color of the multi-
information display changes accord - ing to the selected driving mode.
●When the speedometer is set to ana - log display, the speedometer display
color also changes.
●The color of the switch changes
according to the s elected driving
mode. (On some models)
■Air conditioning system operation
in Eco drive mode
In Eco drive mode, heating/cooling oper -
ations and the fan speed is controlled to
improve fuel efficiency. Perform the fol - lowing procedures to increase the air
conditioning performance.
●Adjust the fan speed ( →P.453)
●Cancel Eco drive mode
■Canceling a driving mode
●Sport mode is automatically canceled
and the driving mode returns to nor - mal mode when the power switch is
turned off.
●Normal mode and Eco drive mode are
not canceled until another driving
mode is selected. ( Even if the power

Driving
■If “Exhaust Filter Full See Owner’s
Manual” is shown on the multi-
information display
●The message may be displayed while
high load driving with particulate mat - ter accumulating.
●Hybrid system output (engine speed) is restricted when a certain amount of
particulate matter accumulates, how-
ever, it is possible to drive the vehicle unless the malfuncti on indicator lamp
comes on.
●Particulate matter can accumulate
more quickly if t he vehicle is fre-
quently driven short trips or at low speeds, or if the h ybrid system is reg-
ularly started in an extremely cold
environment. Excessive accumula -
tion of particulate matter can be pre - vented by periodically driving long
distances continu ously with intermit-
tent releasing of the accelerator pedal, such as when dri ving on highways
and freeways.
■If the malfunction indicator lamp
comes on or “Hybrid System Mal - function Output Power Reduced
Visit Your Dealer” is shown on the
multi-information display
The amount of accumulated particulate
matter has exceeded a certain level.
Have the vehicle i nspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota
authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.
GPF (Gasoline Particu-
late Filter) system
The GPF system collects par -
ticulate matter in the exhaust
gas by using an exhaust gas
filter. The system will operate
to regenerate the filter auto -
matically, depending on the
vehicle conditions.
NOTICE
■To prevent the GPF system from
not operating properly
●Do not use fuel other than the spec - ified type
●Do not modify the exhaust pipes

Driving
■E-Four (Electronic On-Demand
AWD system)
Automatically switches from front
wheel drive to all-wheel drive
(AWD) according to the driving con -
ditions, helping to ensure reliable
handling and stability. Examples of
conditions where the system will
switch to AWD are when cornering,
going uphill, start ing off or acceler-
ating, and when the road surface is
slippery due to snow, rain, etc.
■Emergency brake signal
When the brakes are applied sud -
denly, the emergency flashers
automatically flash to alert the vehi -
cle behind.
■The Secondary Collision
Brake (if equipped)
When the SRS airbag sensor
detects a collision and the system
operates, the brakes and brake
lights are automatically controlled
to reduce the v ehicle speed and
help reduce the possibility of further
damage due to a secondary colli -
sion.
■When the TRC/VSC/ABS/Trailer Sway Control syst ems are operat-
ing
The slip indicator light will flash while the TRC/VSC/ABS/Traile r Sway Control
systems are operating.
■Disabling the TRC system
If the vehicle gets stuck in mud, dirt or snow, the TRC system may reduce
power from the hyb rid system to the
wheels.
Pressing to turn t he system off may
make it easier for you to rock the vehicle
in order to free it.
To turn the TRC system off, quickly
press and release .
“Traction Control Tu rned OFF” will be
shown on the multi-information display.
Press again to turn the system back
on.
■Turning off the TRC/VSC/Trailer
Sway Control systems
To turn the TRC/VS C/Trailer Sway Con-
trol systems off, press and hold for
more than 3 seconds wh ile the vehicle is
stopped.
The VSC OFF indicator light will come
on and the “Tractio n Control Turned
OFF” will be shown on the multi-infor-
mation display.*
Press again to turn the systems
back on.
*: On vehicles with PCS (Pre-Collision

System), PCS will also be disabled
(only Pre-Collision warning is avail -
able). The PCS warning light will
come on and a message will be dis -
played on the multi-information dis -
play. ( →P.361)
■When the message is displayed on
the multi-information display show -
ing that TRC has been disabled
even if has not been pressed
TRC is temporary deactivated. If the information continues to show, contact
any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota
authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
■Operating conditions of hill-start
assist control
When the following four conditions are met, the hill-start as sist control will oper-
ate:
●The shift lever is in a position other
than P or N (when starting off for-
ward/backward on an upward incline).
●The vehicle is stopped.
●The accelerator pedal is not
depressed.
●The parking brake is not engaged.
■Automatic system cancelation of
hill-start assist control
The hill-start assist control will turn off in any of the following situations:
●The shift lever is shifted to P or N.
●The accelerator pedal is depressed.
●The parking brak e is engaged.
●No more than 2 seconds have elapsed after the brake pedal is
released.
■Sounds and vibrations caused by
the ABS, brake assist, VSC, Trailer Sway Control, TRC and hill-start
assist control systems
●A sound may be heard from the
engine compartment when the brake
pedal is depressed repeatedly, when
the hybrid system i s started or just
after the vehicle beg ins to move. This sound does not indicate that a mal -
function has occurred in any of these
systems.
●Any of the followin g conditions may
occur when the a bove systems are operating. None of these indicates
that a malfunction has occurred.
• Vibrations may be felt through the vehicle body and steering.
• A motor sound may be heard also
after the vehicle comes to a stop.
■ECB operating sound
ECB operating sound may be heard in
the following cases, but it does not indi-
cate that a malfun ction has occurred.
●Operating sound heard from the
engine compartment when the brake pedal is operated.
●Motor sound of the brake system heard from the front part of the vehicle
when the driver’ door is opened.
●Operating sound heard from the
engine compartment when one or two
minutes passed after the stop of the hybrid system.
■Active Cornering Assist operation
sounds and vibrations
When the Active Cornering Assist is operated, operation sounds and vibra -
tions may be generat ed from the brake
system, but thi s is not a malfunction.
■EPS operation sound
When the steering wheel is operated, a
motor sound (whirring sound) may be
heard. This does not indicate a malfunc - tion.
■Automatic reacti vation of TRC,
Trailer Sway Control and VSC sys -
tems
After turning the TRC, Trailer Sway Control and VSC systems off, the sys -
tems will be automati cally re-enabled in
the following situations:
●When the power switch is turned off.
●If only the TRC syst em is turned off,

Driving
the TRC will turn on when vehicle
speed increases. If both the TRC and VSC systems are
turned off, automa tic re-enabling will
not occur when vehicle speed increases.
■Operating conditions of Active Cor -
nering Assist
The system operates when the following occurs.
●TRC/VSC can operate
●The driver is attempting to accelerate
while turning
●The system detects that the vehicle is
drifting to the outer side
●The brake pedal is released
■Reduced effectiveness of the EPS
system
The effectiveness o f the EPS system is
reduced to prevent the system from
overheating when there is frequent steering input over an extended period
of time. The steering wheel may feel
heavy as a result. Should this occur, refrain from excessive steering input or
stop the vehicle and t urn the hybrid sys-
tem off. The EPS sys tem should return to normal within 10 minutes.
■Operating conditions of emergency
brake signal
When the following co nditions are met, the emergency brake signal will operate:
●The emergency fl ashers are off.
●Actual vehicle speed is over 55 km/h
(35 mph).
●The system judges from the vehicle
deceleration that it is a sudden brak -
ing operation.
■Automatic system cancelation of emergency brake signal
The emergency brake signal will be can -
celed in any of the following situations:
●The emergency flashers are turned
on.
●The system judges from the vehicle
deceleration that is not a sudden brak - ing operation.
■Secondary Collision Brake operat -
ing conditions (if equipped)
The system operates when the SRS air - bag sensor detects a collision while the
vehicle is in moti on. However, the sys-
tem does not operate in any of the fol - lowing situations.
●The vehicle speed is below 10 km/h (6 mph)
●Components are damaged
■Secondary Collision Brake auto - matic cancellation (if equipped)
The system is automa tically canceled in
any of the following situations.
●The vehicle speed drops below
approximately 10 km/h (6 mph)
●A certain amount of time elapses
during operation
●The accelerator pedal is depressed a
large amount
■If a message about AWD is shown on the multi-information displa y
