Charging operation
How to charge
This vehicle has been designed to allow charging from an external
power source using a charging cabl e for exclusive use with standard
household AC outlets.
However, the vehicle differs greatly from standard household el ectri-
cal goods in the following ways, and incorrect usage could caus e fire
or electric shock, pos sibly leading to death or serious injury.
● The charging operation is designed to operate at 12A continuous ly
for the charge duration (up to 5 hours 10 minutes).
● Charging can be conducted outdoors.
To charge properly, follow the procedure after reading the expl anation
below. Charging is intended to be carried out by licensed drive rs only
who properly understand the charging procedure.
● Do not allow children to use the charging cable without supervision.
Also, keep the charging cabl e out of reach of infants.
● When charging with a charger, follow the procedures for using e ach
charger.
● When charging using a public cha rging facility, check the setting of
the charging schedule function. • When the charge schedule is registered, temporarily turn off t he
function or turn “ Charge Now” on.
• When the charge sche dule is set to ON, charging will not start
even if the charging cable is connected. Also, charging fee may
occur due to connection of the charging cable.

Before charging, always check the following items.
● The parking brake is applied.
● The headlights are switched off or set to AUTO, and lights such as
the emergency flashers and interi or lights etc. are switched off.
If these light switches are turned ON, then these features will consume
electricity, and charging time will increase.
●The power switch is off.
The time required to charge the hybrid battery (traction battery) differs
according to the charging vol tage and charging current.
*1: This is the maximum value.
*2: The time required for charging to complete depends on conditions such as
the remaining charge of the hybrid battery (traction battery), the outside
temperature and specifications of a charger (charging station).

Charging operation
Prepare the charging cable.
Insert the charging cable into
the outlet of the external power
source.
Make sure to hold the body of the
plug and insert it firmly into the out-
let.
Check that the power indicator on
the CCID (Charging Circuit Inter-
rupting Device) is illuminated.
In order to reduce the load on the
outlet and plug, when inserting the
plug, use a string, etc. to hang the
CCID (Charging Circuit Interrupting
Device) on a hook or equivalent.
Open the charging port lid.
The charging inlet light will illumi-
nate.
Remove the charging inlet cap
and secure it as shown in the
illustration.

Remove the protective cap of
the charging connector and
secure it to the cable.
Insert the charging connector
into the charging inlet.
Align the guide position on the bot-
tom of the charging connector, and
push the charging connector
straight into the charging inlet as
far as possible.
Once a “click” sound is heard,
check that the charging connector
is securely locked.
Confirm that the charging indi-
cator is illuminated.
Charging will not start if the
charging indicator does not illumi-
nate when the charging connector
is inserted.
If the charging indicator is flashing,
the charge schedule is registered.
If the error warning indicator on the
CCID (Charging Circuit Interrupting
Device) flashes during charging,
refer to “OWNER’S MANUAL” and
follow the correction procedure.

Vehicles with smart lid & con-
nector locking system:
When you wish to lock the
charging connector, carry an
electronic key and press the
charging connector lock switch.
The charging connector will be
locked by the smart lid & connector
locking system. After the charging
connector is locked, the charging
connector cannot be unlocked by
pressing the charging connector
lock switch if the electronic key is
not in detection area of charging
port lid.
The charging indicator will turn off when charging is completed .
■During charging
●The surface of the CCID (Charging Circuit Interrupting Device) may become
hot, but this does not indicate a malfunction.
● Depending on radio wave conditions, interference may be heard o n the
radio.
● The current charging condition and the estimated time until cha rging will
complete can be checked on the multi-information display or 11. 6-inch dis-
play (if equipped).
● During charging, the hybrid battery (traction battery) status i ndicator illumi-
nates and flashes, and changes according to the charging amount .

To prevent electrical shock, be sure to remove by following the proce-
dures below.
Vehicles with smart lid & con-
nector locking system:
When the charging connector is
locked, carry an electronic key
and press the charging connec-
tor lock switch.
The charging connector is
unlocked by the smart lid & con-
nector locking system.
Carrying an electronic key and moving near the charging inlet w ill cause
the charging inlet light to illuminate.
Pull the charging connector
towards you while pressing the
latch release button.
If the latch release button is
pressed during charging (while the
charging indicator is on), charging
will be interrupted.
Attach the chargi ng connector cap.
Attach the charging inlet cap and close the charging port lid.
Remove the plug from the outlet when the charging equipment will
not be used for a prolonged period of time.
Hold the body of the plug when removing.
Make sure to put the cable away immediately after disconnecting .
When leaving the plug inserted, inspect the plug and connector once a
month to check if dirt or dust has accumulated.
■ Safety function
If the latch release button is pressed, charging will not begin even if the
charging cable is connected.
Also, charging will be stopped if the latch release button is pressed and held
for several seconds during charging. When restarting charging, reinsert the
charging connector after pulling it out, and check that the charging indicator
illuminates.

WARNING
■When charging
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may cause an unexpected accident, resulting in death or
serious injury.
● Connect to a power source suitable for charging.
● Before charging, check that the charging inlet does not have de formations,
damage, corrosion, dust or other foreign materials such as snow or ice
adhering to it. If anything is adhering to the inlet, be sure to completely
remove the material before connecting the charging connector.
● Do not let the terminals of the charging inlet get wet.
● Make sure that the charging cable, plug and socket are free of foreign mat-
ter and not deformed or damaged.
● Only use outlets where the plug can be securely inserted.
● Do not charge if the charging cable is coiled or bundled.
● Wrapping 120 V charging cable while in-use is not recommended b ecause
cable may overheat. Failure to rewrap charging cable when not in-use
could result in strangulation or tripping hazard.
● Do not touch the terminals of the charging connector and chargi ng inlet
with a sharp metal objects (needles etc.) or hands, or short th em with for-
eign objects.
● When charging outdoors, make sure to connect to a weatherproof outlet
for outdoor use.
● If any heat, smoke, odors, noise or other abnormalities are noticed during
charging, stop charging immediately.
● Do not insert the plug if the outlet is submerged in water or s now.
● When charging during rain or snow, do not pull out or insert th e plug with
wet hands. Also, do not get the electrical socket and plug wet.
● Do not charge the vehicle during a lightning storm.
● Do not let the wheels on the charging cable, plug, charging connector and
CCID (Charging Circuit Interrupting Device).
● Firmly insert the plug into the outlet.
● Do not use an extension cord and converting adaptor.
● After connecting the charging cable, confirm that it is not wou nd around
anything.
● If the power indicator light does not illuminate after plugging the charging
cable into the socket-outlet, unplug it immediately.

WARNING
■After charging
Remove the plug if it will not be used for a long time.
Dirt and dust may accumulate plug or outlet, which could cause a malfunc-
tion or fire, possibly leading to death or serious injury.
■ Onboard traction battery charger
The onboard traction battery charger is located under the rear seats. Make
sure to observe the following precautions regarding the onboard traction
battery charger. Failure to observe these precautions may resul t in death or
serious injury such as burns and electric shocks.
● The onboard traction battery charger is hot during charging. Do not touch
the onboard traction battery charger, as doing so may result in burns.
● Do not disassemble, repair or modify the onboard traction batte ry charger.
When the onboard traction battery charger needs to be repaired, consult
your Toyota dealer.
■ Charging inlet
Do not disassemble, repair or modify the charging inlet. It may lead to
unforeseen accidents or serious injury. When the charging inlet needs to be
repaired, consult your Toyota dealer.
NOTICE
■ When use the charging cable and related parts
To prevent damage to the charging cable and related parts, observe the fol-
lowing precautions.
● When interrupting or canceling charging, remove the charging co nnector
before removing the plug.
● Vehicles with smart lid & connector locking system: When removi ng the
charging cable, check that the charging connector is unlocked.
● Do not forcefully pull the connector cap and charging inlet cap .
● Do not apply a vibration to the charging connector while chargi ng.
Charging may be stopped.
● Do not insert anything but the charging connector.
● When inserting the plug into or removing the plug from the outlet, make
sure to hold the body of the plug.
● Do not damage the charging inlet cap with a sharp object.
● Do not forcefully pull the charging cable that is caught or entangled.
If the cable is entangled, disentangle it before using.
● When charging from the external device, use the charging cable equipped
with the vehicle.
