Ac tive Distance Assist DISTRONIC maintains the
set speed on free-0owing roads. If vehicles ahead
are de tected, the set distance is maintained, if
necessary until theve hicle comes toa halt. The
ve hicle accelerates or brakes, depending on the
distance totheve hicle in front and the set speed.
The speed and distance totheve hicle in front are
set and sa ved using the cruise control le ver.The
speed can be set in thera nge between 20 km/h
and 200 km/h.
Other features of Active Distance Assist
DISTRONIC:
R Depending on the preselected distance,
DISTRONIC inter venes either dynamically
(short distance) or tosave fuel (long distance).
R Depending on theve hicle mass de tected, the
dynamics of the DISTRONIC inter vention are
re duced.
R The driving style is adap ted depending on the
drive prog ram selected.
R Acceleration tothe stored speed is initiated if
th e turn signal indicator is switched on to
ch ange totheove rtaking lane. Obser
vethe no tes on driving systems and your
re sponsibility; you may otherwise failto recognise
dangers (/ page 152).

In addition, on slippery or slick roads, braking or
accelerating can cause one or se veral of the drive
wheels tolose traction and theve hicle can then
skid.

PA RKTRONIC is an electronic parking assistance
system with ultrasonic sensors. The system moni-
to rs the area around your vehicle using senso rson
th e front bumper and on there ar bumper.
PA RKTRONIC indicates visually and audibly the dis-
ta nce between your vehicle and an object.
The warning ranges in front of and behind theve hi-
cle are indicated bydi.erent warning tones.
PA RKTRONIC is only an aid. It is not a substitute
fo ryo u paying attention tothe sur roundings. Yo u
are alw aysre sponsible for safe manoeuvring, par k-
ing and exiting a parking space. Make sure that
th ere are no persons, animals or objects etc. in
th e manoeuvring area while manoeuvring and par k-
ing or exiting parking spaces.

Ac tive Parking Assist is an electronic parking assis-
ta nce system which automatically locates and
measures parking spaces on bo thsides of the
ve hicle when you are driving forw ards up to a
speed of appr oximately 35 km/h.
If all requ irements are met, theÇ display
appears in the inst rument cluster displa y.The sys-
te m then independently locates and measures par-
allel and perpendicular parking spaces on bo th
sides of theve hicle.
When Active Parking Assist has de tected parking
spaces, theÈ display appears in the inst ru-
ment cluster displa y.The ar rows show on which
side of thero ad free parking spaces are located.
Ac tive Parking Assist displa ysparking spaces on
th e co-driver side as standard. The parking spaces
on the driver's side are only displa yed if you oper-
ate the turn signal on the driver's side. When par k-
ing on the driver's side, you must operate the turn
signal until you ha vestar ted active parking assis-
ta nce bypressing thea steering-wheel button.
Ac tive Parking Assist can assist you with an active
steering inter vention and brake application during
parking and exiting the parking space. The active brake application is dependent on
the countr y-spe-
ci/c version of theve hicle. On vehicles with man-
ual transmission, active parking assis tance is limi-
te dex clusively topowe r-stee ring assistance.
Ac tive Parking Assist is only an aid. It is not a sub-

daries of parking spaces. In some circumstances,
Ac tive Parking Assist may therefore guide you into

Ac tive Parking Assist may also display parking
spaces that are not suitable for parking, forex am-

R if two parking spaces are located immediately

On vehicles with automatic transmission, when

parking space, Active Parking Assist can brake
it to a standstill.

On completion of the parking procedure, the
Active Parking Assist finished message appears
and an acoustic signal sounds. Active Parking
Assist no longer supports you with steering inter-
ve ntions and brake applications.
