The system limits of Tra1c Sign Assist apply to
th e de tection of tra1c signs (/ page 294).
Speed limits below 20 km/h are not automatical ly
adop tedby the system as the stored speed. Tem-
porary speed restrictions (e.g. for a cer tain time
or due towe ather conditions) cann otbe proper ly
de tected bythe system. The maximum permissi-
ble speed applying toave hicle with a trailer is not
de tected bythe system.

When Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC is activa-
te d, theve hicle speed will be adap ted accordingly
to thero ute events ahead. Depending on the drive
prog ram selected, theve hicle neg otiates a route
ev ent ahead in a fuel-saving, comfor table or
dynamic manner. When thero ute event has been
passed, theve hicle accelerates again tothe
stored speed. The set distance totheve hicle in
front, vehicles de tected ahead and speed restric-
tions ahead are take n into account.
Ro ute-based speed adap tation can be activa ted in
th e multimedia system (/ page 283).
The following route events are take n into account:
R Bends
R Roundabouts
R T-junctions
R Turns and exits R
Tra1c jams ahead (only with Live Tra1c )
Also, the speed is reduced if the turn signal indi-
cator is switched on and one of thefo llowing sit-
uations is de tected:
R Turning o. at junctions
R Driving on slowing-down lanes
R Driving on lanes adjacent toslowing-down
lanes
The driver is responsible forch oosing theright
speed and observing other road users. This
applies in particular tojunctions, roundabouts and
tra1c lights, as route-based speed adap tation
does not brake theve hicle toa standstill.
If a cor responding route event is de tected while
ro ute guidance is active, the /rst speed adjust-
ment is car ried out automaticall y.Ifth e turn signal
indicator is switched on, the selected route is
con/rmed and fur ther speed adjustment is activa-
te d.
Speed adap tation is cancelled in thefo llowing
cases:

of wa yre gulations into account. The driver is
re sponsible for complying with road tra1c regula-
tions and driving at a suitable speed.
In di1cult conditions, the speed selection made
by the system may not alw ays be suitable. This
applies tothefo llowing situations, forex ample:
R unclear roads
R road nar rowing
R varying maximum permissible speeds in indi-
vidual lanes, forex ample at toll stations
R wetro ad sur faces, snow or ice
R if transport equipment, forex ample a trailer or
bicycle rack , is attached tothe trailer hitch

tive Emer gency Stop Assist uses touch sensors
to monitor whe ther the driver holds the steering
wheel and initiates an emer gency stop if neces-
sa ry.
If Ac tive Steering Assist is deactivated, the accel-
erator and brake pedal are monitored as well as
th e steering wheel. A warning is issued when the
stee ring wheel is not being held or when a pedal
is not depre ssed, andtheve hicle is in danger of

yo u turn at a junction, the display in the driver's
display can thus be updated without a tra1c sign
having been de tected.
If Tra1c Sign Assist cann otdeterm ine the cur-
re ntly applicable maximum permissible speed
(e.g. due tomissing signs), thefo llowing display

th is, you can specify in the multimedia system by

The system may be impaired or may not function
particular lyin thefo llowing situations:
R If visibility is poor, e.g. due toinsu1cient illu-
mination of thero ad, highly variable shade
conditions, rain, sno w,fog, swirling dust or
heavy spr ay.
R Ifth ere is glare, e.g. from oncoming tra1c,
direct sunlight or re0ections.
R Ifth e windscreen in the area of the multifunc-
tion camera is dirty, or if the camera is misted
up, damaged or co vered. R
If tra1c signs are di1cult todetect, e.g.
because they are dirty, co vered, faded, co v-
ered with ice, damaged, badly positioned,
poor lylit or twisted.
R Active tra1c signs with LED displa ysmay not
be de tected cor rectly or at all due to technical
fa ctors, such as transmission frequency.
R Ifth e information on the navigation system's
digital map is incor rect, incomple teor out of
date.
R If signs or thero ad la yout is ambiguous, e.g.
tra1c signs in roadwor ks, at exits and ramp s,
in neighbou ring lanes or parallel roads.
R If signs do not conform tothe standard.
R If signs or road la youts are speci/c tothe
count ryand deviate from thero ute guidance
in the navigation system, e.g. at or be yond
construction sites.
R ATer sharp turns and tight bends, when tra1c
signs are outside the camera's /eld of vision.
R Ifyo uove rtake vehicles with tra1c signs
which are a1xed or attached tothem. R
Ifyo u are using transport equipment secured

Wa rnings may be inter rupted when driving along-
side long vehicles, forex ample lor ries, for a pro-
longed time.
Ac tive Blind Spot Assist is not operational when

rrecting brake application occurs,

and a warning tone sounds. In addition, a display

appears in the driver's displa y.
In rare cases, the system may make an inappro-
priate brake application. This brake application
may be inter rupted at any time if you steer slightly
