The rear airbag o.ers the occupants on the outer
re ar seats additional occupant pr otection in the
ev ent of cer tain types frontal impacts. When trig-
ge red, there ar airbag depl oys between there ar
seat occupant and the front seat. The rear airbag
can help pr event the occupants on there ar seats
from coming into contact with parts of theve hicle
interior in theev ent of an accident.
To avo idtherisks resulting from the deployment
of an airbag, obser vethefo llowing information:
R Inform persons on there ar seats about the
re ar airbag in the front seat.
R A person sitting on there ar seat must adopt
th e cor rect seat position and sit as far back
from there ar airbag as possible. Adjust the
front seats when necessa ryso that vehicle
occupants are sitting as far back from the air-
bag as possible and at an equal distance to
th em.
R Obser vethe no tes on airbag pr otection
(/ page 54). To
avo idrisks resulting from the deployment of
th e airbag, vehicle occupants on the outer rear
seats must obser vethefo llowing information in
particular:
R The occupants must alw ayske ep their feet on
th e 0oor. Otherwise, feet and legs of occu-
pants may be in the deployment area of the
re ar airbag.
If an occupant's feet cannot reach the 0oor,
th ey must adopt the cor rect seat position and
let their legs hang down the front of the seat.
R The feet or legs of the person on there ar seat
must not rest against the seat backrest of the
front seat, forex ample. Otherwise, their feet
and legs are in the deployment area of the
re ar airbag. This should be take n into consid-
eration especially if you are tr avelling with a
ch ild on there ar seat.
If yo u are tr avelling with a child in the leT or
ri ght rear seat, obser vetheve hicle-speci/c
information: (/ page 77). Also, alw ays
obser vethe no tes on rear wa rd-facing or
fo rw ard-facing child restraint systems on the
leT and right rear seats. R

Before starting a journe y,make sure the

aged. If a rear airbag co ver is damaged,
disable there ar airbag. Ha vea damaged
re ar airbag co verre placed at a quali/ed
specialist workshop as soon as possible. Yo
u can disable or enable there ar airbag via the
multimedia system (/ page 63).

tions in this Owner's Manual, you deem the addi-
tional occupant pr otection pr ovided bythere ar

rear airbags should be disabled in thefo llo w-
ing situations in particular:
R Arear wa rd-facing child restraint system is
secu red on the leT or right rear seat.
R The person in there ar seat, forex ample a
ch ild, cannot sit in the cor rect seat position.
Their feet and legs are po tential lyin the
deployment area of there ar airbag.
R Due tothe position of the front seats, an
occupant's legs, forex ample, are in the
