illuminate the indicator light while
the ignition is switched ON. The
mode changes as follows each
time the seat warmer switch is
pressed.
OFF

●If the ignition is switched off while the seat warmer is operating (High, Mid or
Low) and then switched ON again, the seat warmer will automatic ally oper-
ate at the temperature set before switching off the ignition.
● Use the seat warmer when the engine is running. Leaving the seat warmer
on for long periods with the engine not running could cause the battery
power to be depleted.
● The temperature of the seat warmer cannot be adjusted beyond Hi gh, Mid
and Low because the seat warmer is controlled by a thermostat.

591-3. Child Restraint
1
Essential Safety Equipment
Make sure the ignition is switched off.
Slide the seat as far back as
possible.
Remove the head restraint.
Place the child-restraint system on the seat without putting your
weight on the seat and fasten th e seat belt. See the manufacturer’s
instructions on the child-restraint system for belt routing ins truc-
tions.
To get the retractor into the automatic locking mode, pull the shoul-
der belt portion of the seat bel t until the entire length of the belt is
out of the retractor.
WARNING
■ Always remove the head restraint and install child-restraint sy stem
Installing a child-restraint system without removing the head restraint is
dangerous. The child-restraint system cannot be installed corre ctly which
may result in death or injury to the child in a collision.
■ Always install the head restraint and adjust it to the appropriate posi-
tion after removing the child-restraint system
Driving with the head restraint removed is dangerous as impact to the occu-
pant’s head cannot be prevented during emergency braking or in a collision,
which could result in a serious accident, injury or death.
Refer to Head Restraints on P. 30.

1-3. Child Restraint
Push the child-restraint system firmly into the vehicle seat. Be sure
the belt retracts as snugly as possible. A clicking noise from the
retractor will be hear d during retraction if the system is in a utomatic
locking mode. If the belt does not lock the seat down tight, re peat
the previous step and also this one.
Inspect this function before each use of the child-restraint sy stem. You
should not be able to pull the shoulder belt out of the retract or while the
system is in the automatic locking mode. When you remove the ch ild-
restraint system, be sure the belt fully retracts to return the system to
emergency locking mode before occupants use the seat belts.
Seat your child safely in the child-restraint system and secure the
child according to the instructions from the child-restraint sy stem
manufacturer.
Switch the ignition ON and
make sure the front passenger
air bag deactivation indicator
light illuminates after installing a
child-restraint system on the
front passenger seat.
If the front passenger air bag
deactivation indicator light does
not illuminate, remove the child-
restraint system, switch the
ignition to OFF, and then re-
install the child-restraint sys-
tem ( P. 8 2 ) .
Follow the child-restraint system manufacturer’s instructions carefully.
Depending on the type of child-restraint system, it may not employ seat belts
which are in automatic locking mode.

Essential Safety Equipment
If your vehicle is also equipped with a front passenger occupant clas-
sification system, refer to the Front Passenger Occupant Classi fica-
tion System ( P. 82) for details.
If your vehicle is equipped with a
front passenger occupant classifi-
cation system, the front passen-
ger air bag deactivation indicator
light illuminates for a specified
time after the ignition is switched
ON.
Small children must be protected by a child-restraint system as stipu-
lated by law in every state and province. In certain states and prov-
inces, larger children must use a child-restraint system (P. 4 4 ) .
Carefully consider which child-re straint system is necessary for your
child and follow the installation directions in this Owner’s Manual as
well as the child-restraint syste m manufacturer’s instructions.
●If it becomes necessary to have the components or wiring system for the
supplementary restraint system modified to accommodate a person with
certain medical conditions in accordance with a certified physi cian, contact
your Toyota dealer.
● When an air bag deploys, a loud inflation noise can be heard an d some
smoke will be released. Neither is likely to cause injury, however, the texture
of the air bags may cause light skin injuries on body parts not covered with
clothing through friction.
● Should you sell your Toyota, we urge you to tell the new owner of its air bag
systems and that familiarization with all instructions about th em, from the
Owner’s Manual, is important.
● This highly-visible label is displayed
which warns against the use of a rear-
facing child-restraint system on the front
passenger seat.

edly if luggage or other items are put on the front passenger s eat, or if the
temperature of the vehicle’s interior changes suddenly.
● The front passenger air bag deactivation indicator light may tu rn on for 10
seconds if the electrostatic capacity on the front passenger se at changes.
● The air bag/front seat belt pretensioner system warning light might turn on if
the front passenger seat receives a severe impact.
● If the front passenger air bag deactivation indicator light doe s not turn on
after installing a child-restraint system on the front passenge r seat, first, re-
install your child-restraint system according to the procedure in this owner’s
manual. Then, if the front passenger air bag deactivation indic ator light still
does not turn on, install the child-restraint system on the rea r seat and con-
sult your Toyota dealer as soon as possible.
● If the front passenger air bag deactivation indicator light tur ns on when an
occupant is seated directly in the front passenger seat, have the passenger
re-adjust their posture by sitting with their feet on the floor , and then re-fas-
tening the seat belt. If the front passenger air bag deactivati on indicator light
remains turned on, move the passenger to the rear seat. If sitt ing in the rear
