the engine switch will not be turned off but instead be turned to
ACCESSORY mode. Perform the following procedure to turn the
switch off:
Check that the park ing brake is set.
Shift the shift lever to P.
Check that “Turn Off Vehicle” is displayed on the multi-informa tion
display and then press the engine switch once.
Check that “Turn Off Vehicle” on the multi-information display is off.
■Auto power off function
If the vehicle is left in ACCESSORY mode for more than 20 minut es or IGNI-
TION ON mode (the engine is not running) for more than an hour with the
shift lever in P, the engine switch will automatically turn off. However, this
function cannot entirely prevent battery discharge. Do not leav e the vehicle
with the engine switch in ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON mode for lon g peri-
ods of time when the engine is not running.
■ Automatic engine shut off feature
●The vehicle is equipped with a feature that automatically shuts off the
engine when the shift lever is in P with the engine running for an extended
period.
● The engine will automatically shut off after approximately 1 hour if it has
been left running while the shift lever is in P.
● The timer for the automatic engine shut off feature will reset if the brake
pedal is depressed or if the shift lever is in a position other than P.
● After the vehicle is parked, if the door is locked with the door lock switch
(P. 116) from the inside or the mechanical key (P. 555) from the outside,
the automatic engine shut off feature will be disabled. The tim er for the auto-
matic engine shut off feature will be re-enabled if the driver’ s door is
opened.
■ Operation of the engine switch
●If the switch is not pressed shortly and firmly, the engine swi tch mode may
not change or the engine may not start.
● If attempting to restart the engine immediately after turning t he engine
switch off, the engine may not start in some cases. After turni ng the engine

■Operational conditions
The pre-collision system is enabled and the system determines that the pos-
sibility of a frontal collision with a vehicle or pedestrian is high.
Each function is operational at the following speeds:
● Pre-collision warning:
• Vehicle speed is between approximately 7 and 110 mph (10 and 1 80 km/h).
(For detecting a pedestrian, vehicle speed is between approxima tely 7 and
50 mph [10 and 80 km/h].)
• The relative speed between your vehicle and the vehicle or ped estrian
ahead is approximately 7 mph (10 km/h) or more.
● Pre-collision brake assist:
• Vehicle speed is between approximately 20 and 110 mph (30 and
180 km/h). (For detecting a pedestrian, vehicle speed is between approx-
imately 20 and 50 mph [30 and 80 km/h].)
• The relative speed between your vehicle and the vehicle or ped estrian
ahead is approximately 20 mph (30 km/h) or more.

50 mph [10 and 80 km/h].)
• The relative speed between your vehicle and the vehicle or ped estrian
ahead is approximately 7 mph (10 km/h) or more.
The system may not operate in the following situations:
● If a battery terminal has been disconnected and reconnected and then the
vehicle has not been driven for a certain amount of time
● If the shift lever is in R
● If VSC is disabled (only the pre-collision warning function wil l be opera-
tional)
● If the low speed four-wheel drive indicator is illuminated (onl y the pre-colli-
sion warning function will be operational)

4-5. Using the driving support systems
■Automatic reactivation of Active TRAC, VSC and Trailer Sway Con trol
Turning the engine switch off after turning off the Active TRAC and VSC sys-
tems will automatically re-enable them.
■ Automatic Active TRAC reactivation
If only the Active TRAC system is turned off, the Active TRAC s ystem will turn
on when vehicle speed increases.
■ Automatic Active TRAC, VSC and T railer Sway Control reactivation
If the Active TRAC, VSC and Trailer Sway Control are turned off, the systems
will not turn on even when vehicle speed increases.
■ If the brake system overheats
The brake system may overheat. In this case, a buzzer will soun d, and the
TRAC OFF indicator will flash, and Active TRAC and hill-start a ssist control
will be temporarily inoperable. In this event, stop the vehicle immediately in a
safe place, and allow the brake system to cool down sufficientl y until the
TRAC OFF indicator go off. (There is no problem with continuing normal driv-
ing.)
■ Sounds and vibrations caused by the Multi Terrain ABS, brake assist,
Active TRAC, VSC, Trailer Sway Control, hill-start assist contr ol and
VGRS
● A sound may be heard from the engine compartment when the engin e is
started or just after the vehicle begins to move. This sound do es not indicate
that a malfunction has occurred in any of these systems.
● Any of the following conditions may occur when the above system s are
operating. None of these indicates that a malfunction has occur red.
• Vibrations may be felt through the vehicle body and steering.
• A motor sound may be heard after the vehicle comes to a stop.
• The brake pedal may pulsate slightly after the Multi Terrain ABS is acti- vated.
• The brake pedal may move down slightly after the Multi Terrain ABS is
activated.
■ Hill-start assist control is operational when
●The shift lever is in D or S.
● The brake pedal is not depressed.
■ VGRS is disabled in the following situations
●During stopping or the steering wheel has been moved for a long time while
driving at lower speeds.
● After the engine is restarted at less than -22 F (-30 C).
● If you disconnect the battery with the steering wheel turned, the center posi-
tion of the steering wheel could be slightly and temporary hanged. To initial-
ize the VGRS, drive for a short while.
