When trouble arises
If you have a flat tire
●Stop the vehicle in a safe place on a hard, flat surface.
● Set the parking brake.
● Shift the shift lever to P (automatic transmission) or R (manual
transmission).
● Stop the engine.
● Turn on the emergency flashers. (P. 624)
Your vehicle is equipped with a spare tire. The flat tire can be
replaced with the spare tire.

WARNING
■If you have a flat tire
Do not continue driving with a flat tire.
Driving even a short distance with a flat tire can damage the tire and the
wheel beyond repair, which could result in an accident.

When trouble arises
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
● One or both of the battery terminals may be disconnected.
● The battery may be discharged. (P. 672)
● There may be a malfunction in the steering lock system. (vehicles
with smart entry & start system)
Contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any
reliable repairer if the problem cannot be repaired, or if repair procedures
are unknown.
When the engine does not start, the following steps can be used as an
interim measure to start the engine if the engine switch is functioning
normally.
Set the parking brake.
Shift the shift lever to P (automatic transmission) or N (manual
transmission).
Turn the engine switch to ACCESSORY mode.
Press and hold the engine switch for about 15 seconds while
depressing the brake pedal and clutch pedal (manual transmission)
firmly.
Even if the engine can be started using the above steps, the system
may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle inspected by your any
authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer.
The starter motor does not turn over, the interior lights and head-
lights do not turn on, or the horn does not sound.

When trouble arises
If the vehicle becomes stuck
Stop the engine. Set the parking brake and shift the shift lever to P
(automatic transmission) or N (manual transmission).
Remove the mud, snow or sand from around the stuck tire.
Place wood, stones or some other material under the tires to help
provide traction.
Restart the engine.
Vehicles with rear differential lock system: Lock the rear differential.

Shift the shift lever to the D or R position (automatic transmission)
or 1 or R position (manual transmission) and carefully apply the
accelerator to free the vehicle.
■ When it is difficult to free the vehicle (vehicles with TRC/A-TRC system)
Press to turn off TRC/A-TRC.

●Vehicles without smart entry & start system:
It is locked to prevent theft of the vehicle if the key is removed from the
engine switch. ( P. 2 8 4 )
●Vehicles with smart entry & start system:
It is locked automatically to prevent theft of the vehicle. ( P. 290)
●Is the window lock switch pressed?
The power window except for the one at the driver’s seat cannot be oper-
ated if the window lock switch is pressed. ( P. 249)
●The auto power off function will be operated if the vehicle is left in ACCES-
SORY or IGNITION ON mode (the engine is not operating) for a period of
time. ( P. 289)
●The seat belt reminder light is flashing
Are the driver and passengers wearing the seat belts? ( P. 638)
●The parking brake indicator light is on
Is the parking brake released? ( P. 307)
Depending on the situation, other types of warning buzzer may also sound.
( P. 634, 643)
●Did anyone inside the vehicle open a door during setting the alarm?
The sensor detects it and the alarm sounds. ( P. 129)
To stop the alarm, turn the engine switch to the “ON” position (vehicles with-
out smart entry & start system) or IGNITION ON mode (vehicles with smart
entry & start system) or start the engine.
The steering wheel cannot be turned after the engine is
stopped
The windows do not open or close by operating the power
window switches (if equipped)
The engine switch is turned off automatically
