Maintenance and care
Take care in order to not damage
the painted surfaces.
When minor damage occurs to a
vehicle with a normal clear coat, it
can be repaired by polishing it or
using touch up paint. In contrast, a
matte clear coat cannot be repaired
using these methods.
If these methods are used the
unevenness of the matte clear coat
may be removed or filled in. In
either case, the surface will
become more flat, making it appear
more glossy, possibly permanently
losing its matte properties.
In order to maintain the matte finish
when repairing damage, it will be
necessary to repaint the entire part.zVehicle paint can be deteriorated
by ultraviolet rays, rain, and
other natural factors. In order to
ensure the life of the paint, it is
recommended that the vehicle
be stored in a paved garage
which blocks the paint from
direct sunlight, rain, wind, and
ground moisture.
zIf a vehicle cover is to be used,
use one with an inner side which
is fleece, non-woven, etc. as it is
less likely to damage the paint.
Even when using a vehicle
cover, storing the vehicle in a
paved garage is recommended.

molded into the sidewall of each tire.
Replace the tires if the treadwear indi-
cators are showing on a tire.
■When to replace your vehicle’s tires
Tires should be replaced if:
●The treadwear indicators are showing on a tire.
●You have tire damage such as cuts, splits, cracks deep enough to expose
the fabric, and bulges indicating inter- nal damage
●A tire goes flat repeatedly or cannot be properly repaired due to the size or location of a cut or other damage
If you are not sure, consult with any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer.
■Tire life
Any tire over 6 years old must be checked by a qualified technician even if
it has seldom or never been used, or damage is not obvious.
■Low profile tires
Generally, low profile tires will wear
more rapidly and tire grip performance will be reduced on snowy and/or icy roads when compared to standard tires.
Be sure to use snow tires on snowy and/or icy roads and drive carefully at a speed appropriate for road and weather
conditions.
■If the tread on snow tires wears down below 4 mm (0.16 in.)
The effectiveness of the tires as snow
tires is lost.
■Checking the tire valves
When replacing the tires, check the tire
valves for deformation, cracks, and other damage.
WARNING
■When inspecting or replacing tires
Observe the following precautions to prevent accidents.Failure to do so may cause damage
to parts of the drive train as well as dangerous handling characteristics, which may lead to an accident result-
ing in death or serious injury.
●Do not mix tires of different makes,
models or tread patterns. Also, do not mix tires of remarkably different treadwear.
●Do not use tire sizes other than those recommended by Toyota.
●Do not mix differently constructed tires (radial, bias-belted or bias-ply
tires).
●Do not mix summer, all season and
snow tires.
●Do not use tires that have been
used on another vehicle. Do not use tires if you do not know how they were used previously.
NOTICE
■Low profile tires
Low profile tires may cause greater damage than usual to the tire wheel when sustaining impact from the road
surface. Therefore, pay attention to the following:
●Be sure to use proper tire inflation pressure. If tires are under-inflated, they may be damaged more
severely.
●Avoid potholes, uneven pavement,
curbs and other road hazards. Fail- ure to do so may lead to severe tire and wheel damage.

The unit can be changed.
■How to change the unit
1Park the vehicle in a safe place
and turn the engine switch off.
Changing the unit cannot be performed
while the vehicle is moving.
2Turn the engine switch to ON.
3Press / of the meter con-
trol switch to select .
4Press / to select “Vehicle
Settings” and then press and
hold .
5Press / to select “TPWS
setting” and then press .
6Press / to select “Setting

■Routine tire inflation pressure
checks
The tire pressure warning system does
not replace routine tire inflation pressure
checks. Make sure to check tire inflation pressure as part of your routine of daily
vehicle checks.
■Tire inflation pressure
●It may take a few minutes to display
the tire inflation pressure after the
engine switch is turned to ON. It may
also take a few minutes to display the
tire inflation pressure after inflation
pressure has been adjusted.
●Tire inflation pressure changes with
temperature. The displayed values
may also be different from the values
measured using a tire pressure
gauge.
■Situations in which the tire pres-
sure warning system may not oper-
ate properly
●In the following cases, the tire pres-
sure warning system may not operate
properly.
• If non-genuine Toyota wheels are
used.
• A tire has been replaced with a tire
that is not an OE (Original Equipment)
tire.
• A tire has been replaced with a tire
that is not of the specified size.
• Tire chains, etc. are equipped.
• An auxiliary-supported run-flat tire is
equipped.
• If a window tint that affects the radio
wave signals is installed.
• If there is a lot of snow or ice on the
vehicle, particularly around the wheels
or wheel housings.
• If the tire inflation pressure is
extremely higher than the specified
level.
• If tires not equipped with tire pressure
warning valves and transmitters are
used.
• If the ID code on the tire pressure
warning valves and transmitters is not
registered in the tire pressure warning
computer.
●Performance may be affected in the
following situations.
• Near a TV tower, electric power plant,
gas station, radio station, large dis-
play, airport or other facility that gen-

■The tire pressure warning sys-
tem must be initialized in the
following circumstances:
zWhen rotating front and rear tires
which have different tire inflation
pressures.
zWhen changing the tire size.
zWhen the tire inflation pressure
is changed such as when chang-
ing traveling speed or load
weight.
zWhen changing between two
registered wheel sets.
When the tire pressure warning
system is initialized, the current tire
inflation pressure is set as the
benchmark pressure.
■How to initialize the tire pres-
sure warning system
1Park the vehicle in a safe place
and turn the engine switch off,
wait for approximately 15 min-
utes or more and perform the
procedure.
2Adjust the tire inflation pressure
to the specified cold tire inflation
pressure level. (→P.357)
Make sure to adjust the tire pressure to
the specified cold tire inflation pressure
level. The tire pressure warning system
will operate based on this pressure
level.
3Turn the engine switch to ON.
Initialization cannot be performed while
the vehicle is moving.
4Press / of the meter con-
trol switch to select .
5Press / to select “Vehicle
Settings” and then press and
hold .
6Press / to select “TPWS
setting” and then press .
7Press / to select “Setting
Pressure”. Then press and hold
until the tire pressure warn-
ing light blinks 3 times.
Then a message will be displayed on
the multi-information display. “--” will be
displayed on the multi-information dis-
play for the inflation pressure of each
tire while initialization is being per-
formed.
8Drive straight (with occasional
left and right turns) at approxi-
mately 40 km/h (25 mph) or
more for approximately 10 to 30
minutes.
Even if the vehicle is not driven at
approximately 40 km/h (25 mph) or
more, initialization can be completed by
driving for a long time. However, if ini-

When replacing wheels, care
should be taken to ensure that they
are equivalent to those removed in
load capacity, diameter, rim width
and inset*.
Replacement wheels are available
at any authorized Toyota retailer or
Toyota authorized repairer, or any
reliable repairer.
*: Conventionally referred to as offset.
Toyota does not recommend using
the following:
z Wheels of different sizes or types
z Used wheels
z Bent wheels that have been
straightened
■When replacing wheels
The wheels of your vehicle are equipped with tire pressure warning valves and
transmitters that allow the tire pressure warning system to provide advance warning in the event of a loss in tire
inflation pressure. Whenever wheels are replaced, the tire pressure warning valves and transmitters must be
installed. ( →P.281)
Wheels
If a wheel is bent, cracked or
heavily corroded, it should be
replaced. Otherwise, the tire
may separate from the wheel
or cause a loss of handling
control.
Wheel selection
WARNING
■When replacing wheels
●Do not use wheels that are a differ-
ent size from those recommended in the Owner’s Manual, as this may result in a loss of handling control.
●Never use an inner tube in a leak-ing wheel which is designed for a
tubeless tire. Doing so may result in an accident, causing death or serious injury.
■When installing the wheel nuts
Never use oil or grease on the wheel
bolts or wheel nuts. Oil and grease may cause the wheel nuts to be excessively tightened,
leading to bolt or disc wheel damage. In addition, the oil or grease can cause the wheel nuts to loosen and
the wheel may fall off, causing an accident and resulting in death or serious injury. Remove any oil or
grease from the wheel bolts or wheel nuts.
■Use of defective wheels prohib-ited
Do not use cracked or deformed
wheels. Doing so could cause the tire to leak air during driving, possibly causing an accident.

■Replacing tire pressure warning
valves and transmitters
●Because tire repair or replacement may affect the tire pressure warning
valves and transmitters, make sure to have tires serviced by any autho-rized Toyota retailer or Toyota
authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer. In addition, make sure to purchase your tire pressure warn-
ing valves and transmitters at any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer.

Check the sealant expiry date occasion- ally.The expiry date is shown on the bottle.
Do not use sealant whose expiry date has already passed. Otherwise, repairs conducted using the emergency tire
puncture repair kit may not be per- formed properly.
■Emergency tire puncture repair kit
●The emergency tire puncture repair kit is for filling the car tire with air.
●The sealant has a limited life span. The expiry date is marked on the bot-tle. The sealant should be replaced
before the expiry date. Contact any
authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer for replacement.
●The sealant stored in the emergency tire puncture repair kit can be used
only once to temporarily repair a sin- gle tire. If the sealant has been used and needs to be replaced, purchase a
new bottle at any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer. The compres-
sor is reusable.
●The sealant can be used when the
outside temperature is from -30°C (- 22°F) to 60°C (140°F).
●The kit is exclusively designed for size and type of tires originally installed on your vehicle. Do not use it for tires that
a different size than the original ones, or for any other purposes.
●If the sealant gets on your clothes, it may stain.
●If the sealant adheres to a wheel or the surface of the vehicle body, the stain may not be removable if it is not
cleaned at once. Immediately wipe away the sealant with a wet cloth.
●During operation of the repair kit, a loud operation noise is produced. This does not indicate a malfunction.
●Do not use to check or to adjust the tire pressure.
WARNING
■Caution while driving
●Store the repair kit in the luggage compartment.
Injuries may result in the event of an accident or sudden braking.
●The repair kit is exclusively only for your vehicle.Do not use repair kit on other vehi-
cles, which could lead to an acci- dent causing death or serious injury.

2 Take out the emergency tire
puncture repair kit. ( →P.327)
1 Remove the hose and take out
the power plug from the com-
pressor.
2 Connect the bottle to the com-
pressor.
Insert and connect the bottle straight into the compressor as shown in the illustration, and check that the claws of
the bottle are concealed in the holes.
3 Connect the hose to the bottle.
As shown in the illustration, make sure the hose is connected securely to the

■Precautions for use of the seal-ant
●Ingesting the sealant is hazardous
