3-1.Key info rmation
The following keys are provided
with the vehicle.
Electronic keys
• Operating the smart entry & start sys-
tem (→P.109)
• Operating the wireless remote control
function (→P.101)

■When riding in an aircraft
When bringing a key with wireless
remote control function onto an aircraft,
make sure you do not press any buttons
on the key while inside the aircraft cabin.
If you are carrying the key in your bag,
etc., ensure that the buttons are not
likely to be pressed accidentally. Press-
ing a button may cause the key to emit
radio waves that could interfere with the
operation of the aircraft.
■Electronic key battery depletion
●The standard battery life is 1 to 2
years.
●If the battery becomes low, an alarm
will sound in the cabin and a message
will be shown on the multi-information
display when the engine is stopped.
●To reduce key battery depletion when
the electronic key is to not be used for
long periods of time, set the electronic
key to the battery-saving mode.
(→P. 1 1 0 )
●As the electronic key always receives
radio waves, the battery will become
depleted even if the electronic key is
not used. The following symptoms
indicate that the electronic key battery
may be depleted. Replace the battery
when necessary. (→P.295)
• The smart entry & start system or the
wireless remote control does not oper-
ate.
• The detection area becomes smaller.
• The LED indicator on the key surface
does not turn on.
●To avoid serious deterioration, do not
leave the electronic key within 1 m (3
ft.) of the following electrical appli-
ances that produce a magnetic field:
•TVs
• Personal computers
• Cellular phones, cordless phones and
battery chargers
• Recharging cellular phones or cord-
less phones
• Table lamps
• Induction cookers
●If the electronic key is near the vehicle
for longer than necessary, even if the
smart entry & start system is not oper-
ated, the key battery may become
depleted faster than normal.
■Replacing the battery
→P. 2 9 5
■If “A New Key has been Registered
Contact Your Dealer for Details” is
shown on the multi-information
display
This message will be displayed each
time the driver’s door is opened when
the doors are unlocked from the outside
for approximately 10 days after a new
electronic key has been registered.
If this message is displayed but you
have not had a new electronic key regis-
tered, ask any authorized Toyota retailer
or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reli-

3-2. Opening, closing and locking the doors
■Door lock buzzer
If an attempt to lock the doors using the entry function or wireless remote control is made when a door is not fully closed,
a buzzer will sound continuously for 5 seconds. Fully close the door to stop the buzzer, and lock the doors again.
■Alarm (if equipped)
Locking the doors will set the alarm sys- tem. ( →P.74)
■Conditions affecting the operation of the smart entry & start system or
wireless remote control
→ P. 1 1 0
■If the smart entry & start system or the wireless remote control does
not operate properly
Use the mechanical key to lock and unlock the doors. ( →P.339)
Replace the key battery with a new one if it is depleted. ( →P.295)
■If the battery is discharged
The doors cannot be locked and
unlocked using the entry function or wireless remote control. Lock or unlock the doors using the mechanical key.
( →P.339)
■Customization
Some functions can be customized. ( →P.361)
WARNING
■To prevent an accident
Observe the following precautions
while driving the vehicle. Failure to do so may result in a door opening and an occupant being
thrown out of the vehicle, resulting in death or serious injury.
●Ensure that all doors are properly closed and locked.
●Do not pull the inside door handle while driving. The doors may be opened even if
the inside lock buttons are in the locked position.
■When opening or closing a door
Check the surroundings of the vehicle such as whether the vehicle is on an
incline, whether there is enough space for a door to open and whether a strong wind is blowing. When open-
ing or closing the door, hold the door handle tightly to prepare for any unpredictable movement.
■Side window open/close function linked to door operation
Do not hold the upper edge of the side window when you close the door. Otherwise, your fingers or hand may
be caught in the window.
■When using the wireless remote
control and operating the power windows
Operate the power windows after
checking to make sure that there is no possibility of any passenger having any of their body parts caught in the
windows. Also, do not allow children to operate the wireless remote con-trol. It is possible for children and
other passengers to get caught in the power windows.

3-2. Opening, closing and locking the doors
●Interior buzzer sounds continuously
■Battery-saving function
The battery-saving function will be acti-
vated in order to prevent the electronic
key battery and the vehicle battery from
being discharged while the vehicle is not
operated for a long time.
●In the following situations, the smart
entry & start system may take some
time to unlock the doors.
• The electronic key has been left within
approximately 3.5 m (11 ft.) of the out-
side of the vehicle for 2 minutes or
longer.
• The smart entry & start system has
not been used for 5 days or longer.
●If the smart entry & start system has
not been used for 14 days or longer,
the doors cannot be unlocked from
any door except the driver’s door. In
this case, hold the driver’s door han-
dle, or use the wireless remote control
or mechanical key to unlock the
doors.
■Electronic key battery-saving func-
tion
●When battery-saving mode is set, bat-
tery depletion is minimized by stop-
ping the electronic key from receiving
radio waves.
Press twice while pressing and holding . Confirm that the electronic
key indicator flashes 4 times.
While the battery-saving mode is set,
the smart entry & start system cannot be
used. To cancel the function, press any
of the electronic key buttons.
●Electronic keys that will not be used
for long periods of time can be set to
the battery-saving mode in advance.
■Conditions affecting operation
The smart entry & start system uses
weak radio waves. In the following situa-
tions, the communication between the
electronic key and the vehicle may be
affected, preventing the smart entry &
start system, wireless remote control
and engine immobilizer system from
operating properly. (Ways of coping:
→P.339)
●When the electronic key battery is
depleted
●Near a TV tower, electric power plant,
gas station, radio station, large dis-
play, airport or other facility that gen-
erates strong radio waves or electrical
noise
●When carrying a portable radio, cellu-
lar phone, cordless phone or other
wireless communication device
●When the electronic key is in contact
with, or is covered by the following
metallic objects
• Cards to which aluminum foil is
attached
• Cigarette boxes that have aluminum
foil inside
• Metallic wallets or bags
•Coins

7-2. Steps to take in an emergency
1Shift the shift lever to N and
depress the clutch pedal.
2 Touch the area behind the lock
button and unlock button on the
electronic key to the engine
switch.
When the electronic key is detected, a
buzzer sounds and the engine switch will turn to ON.
When the smart entry & start system is
deactivated in customization setting, the engine switch will turn to ACC.
3 Firmly depress the clutch pedal
and check that is shown
on the multi-information display.
4 Press the engine switch shortly
and firmly.
In the event that the engine still
cannot be started, contact any
authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota
authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer.
■Stopping the engine
Shift the shift lever to N and press the engine switch as you normally do when
stopping the engine.
■Electronic key battery
As the above procedure is a temporary measure, it is recommended that the electronic key battery be replaced
immediately when the battery is depleted. ( →P.295)
■Alarm (if equipped)
Using the mechanical key to lock the
doors will not set the alarm system. If a door is unlocked using the mechani-cal key when the alarm system is set,
the alarm may be triggered. ( →P. 7 4 )
■Changing engine switch modes
Release the clutch pedal and press the engine switch in step 3 above.
The engine does not start and modes will be changed each time the switch is pressed. ( →P.138)
