Driving in Low Temperatures
Tire performance is reduced in low ambient
temperatures, resulting in reduced grip and an
increased susceptibility to damage from
impacts. Performance tires can temporarily
harden when cold, causing you to hear rotational noise for the first few miles
(kilometers) until the tires warm up.
Using Tire Chains
Tesla has tested and approved Maggie Group
Trak Special LT51 tire chains to increase traction in snowy conditions. These chains
should only be installed on rear 19" or 20"
tires. Do not use chains on 22" tires or on front
tires. The approved tire chains can be
purchased from Tesla.
When installing tire chains, follow the instructions and warnings provided by the tire
chain manufacturer. Mount them evenly and as
tight as possible.
When using tire chains:

tar spots and stubborn grease stains, then
immediately wash the area with water and a
mild, non-detergent soap to remove the
alcohol.
Follow these steps when washing the exterior

premature wear. If possible, immediately wipe up spills and remove marks. For general
cleaning, wipe interior surfaces using a soft
cloth (such as microfiber) dampened with a
mixture of warm water and mild non-
detergent cleaner (test all cleaners on a
concealed area before use). To avoid streaks,
dry immediately with a soft lint-free cloth.
