Pairing Your Cell Phone for theFirst Time
Pair your Bluetooth-enabled phone withthe system before using the functions inhands-free mode.
Switch on Bluetooth on your device tobegin pairing. See your phone’s manual ifnecessary.
To add a phone, select:

1.Follow the on-screen instructions.
2.A prompt alerts you to search for thesystem on your phone.
3.Select your vehicle's make and modelas it displays on your phone.
4.Confirm that the six-digit numberappearing on your phone matches thesix-digit number on the touchscreen.
5.The touchscreen indicates when thepairing is successful.
6.Your phone may prompt you to givethe system permission to accessinformation. To check your phone’scompatibility, see your phone’s manualor visit the website.
Alternatively, to add a phone, select:

Discover Other Bluetooth Devices
1.Follow the on-screen instructions.
2.Select your phone's name when itappears on the touchscreen.
3.Confirm that the six-digit numberappearing on your phone matches thesix-digit number on the touchscreen.
4.The touchscreen indicates when thepairing is successful.
5.Your phone may prompt you to givethe system permission to accessinformation. To check your phone’scompatibility, see your phone’s manualor visit the website.
At a minimum, most cell phones withBluetooth wireless technology support thefollowing functions:
•Answering an incoming call.
•Ending a call.
•Dialing a number.
•Call waiting notification.
•Caller identification.
Other features, such as text messagingusing Bluetooth and automatic phonebookdownload, are phone-dependent features.

Making Calls
There are many ways to make calls fromthe SYNC 3 system, including using voicecommands. See Using VoiceRecognition (page 327). You can use thetouchscreen to place calls as well.
To call a number in your contacts,select:

Receiving Calls
During an incoming call, an audible tonesounds. Caller information appears in thedisplay if it is available.
To accept the call, select:

Ignore the call by doing nothing. SYNC 3logs it as a missed call.
During a Phone Call
During a phone call, the contacts nameand number display on the screen alongwith the call duration.
The phone status items are also visible:
•Signal Strength.
•Battery.
You can select any of the following duringan active phone call:

Transfer the call tothe cell phone orback to SYNC 3.

Receiving a Text Message
When a new message arrives, an audible tone sounds and the screen displays apop-up with the sender name and ID, if supported by your cell phone. You canselect:

Smartphone Connectivity (If Equipped)
SYNC 3 allows you to use Apple CarPlayand Android Auto to access your phone.
When you use Apple CarPlay or AndroidAuto, you can:
•Make calls.
•Send and receive messages.
•Listen to music.
•Use your phone's voice assistant.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto disablesome SYNC 3 features.
Most Apple CarPlay and Android Autofeatures use mobile data.
Apple CarPlay
Apple CarPlay requires an iPhone 5 ornewer with iOS 7.1 or newer. Updating tothe latest iOS version is recommended.
1.Plug your phone into a USB port. SeeEntertainment (page 334).
2.Follow the prompts on thetouchscreen.
3.Follow the prompts that appear onyour phone to allow access to AppleCarPlay.
After completing the setup, your phoneconnects to CarPlay automatically whenplugged into a USB port.
To disable this feature from theSettings screen, select:

Apple CarPlay Preferences
Your device is listed if SYNC detectsApple CarPlay. Select the name of yourdevice and select:
Disable
To return to SYNC 3, go to the AppleCarPlay home screen and select the SYNCapp.

Android Auto is compatible with mostdevices with Android 5.0 or newer.

Navigation Map Updates
HERE is the digital map provider for thenavigation application. If you find map dataerrors, you may report them directly toHERE by going to www.here.com. HEREevaluates all reported map errors andresponds with the result of theirinvestigation by e-mail.
APPS
The system allows you interact with selectmobile apps while keeping your eyes onthe road. Voice commands, your steeringwheel buttons, or a quick tap on yourtouchscreen give you advanced control ofcompatible mobile apps. You can alsostream your favorite music or podcasts,share your time of arrival with friends, andkeep connected safely.
When you start an app through the systemfor the first time, you could be asked togrant certain permissions. You can reviewand change the permissions that you havegranted at any time when your vehicle isnot moving. We recommend that youcheck your data plan before using yourapps through the system. Using themcould result in additional charges. We also
recommend that you check the appprovider's terms and conditions andprivacy policy before using their app. Makesure that you have an active account forapps that you want to use through thesystem. Some apps will work with nosetup. Others require you to configuresome personal settings before you can usethem.

Using Apps on an iOS Device
Select the apps option on thefeature bar.
1.If your device is connected via USB,switch Apple CarPlay off. See Phone(page 343).
2.Connect your device to a USB port orpair and connect using Bluetooth.
3.If prompted to enable CarPlay, selectDisable.
4.Start the apps on your device that youwant to use through SYNC.
Note:If you close the apps on your device,you will not be able to use them through thesystem.
5.Select the app that you want to use onthe touchscreen.
Note:Connect your device to a USB port ifyou want to use a navigation app. Whenusing a navigation app, keep your deviceunlocked and the app open.
Using Apps on an Android Device
Select the apps option on thefeature bar.
1.If your device is connected via USB,switch Android Auto off. See Phone(page 343).

3.Start the apps on your device that youwant to use through SYNC.
Note:If you close the apps on your device,you will not be able to use them through thesystem.
4.Select Find Mobile Apps.
Note:The system searches and connectsto compatible apps that are running on yourdevice.
5.Select the app that you want to use onthe touchscreen.
Note:Mobile Apps on your device use theUSB port to establish a connection withSYNC. Some devices may lose the ability toplay music over USB when Mobile Apps areenabled.
Using Mobile Navigation on anAndroid Device
1.Connect your device to a USB port.
2.Switch Android Auto off. See Phone(page 343).
3.Switch on Enable Mobile Apps viaUSB in the Mobile Apps Settings tile.
4.Select the apps option on the featurebar.
5.Select the navigation app that youwant to use on the touchscreen.
Note:When using a navigation app, keepyour device unlocked and the app open.
