Safety during pregnancy
It is important that seat belts are worn correctlyduring pregnancy and that pregnant driversadjust their seating position accordingly.
Seat belt
The seat belt should fit closely against the shoul-der, with the diagonal section between thebreasts and to the side of the stomach.
The lap section of the seat belt should lie flatover the thighs and as far as possible under thestomach. Never let it ride upward. Removeunnecessary slack and make sure the seat beltfits as close as possible to the body. Make surethere are no twists in the seat belt.
Seating position
As pregnancy progresses, pregnant driversshould adjust the seat and steering wheel to aposition that allows them to retain full control of
the vehicle (which means they should be able toeasily reach the steering wheel and foot pedals).Try to maintain as much distance as possiblebetween the stomach and the steering wheel.

Safety is Volvo's cornerstone.
Volvo's concern for safety
Our concern for safety dates back to 1927 whenthe first Volvo rolled off the production line.Three-point seat belts (a Volvo invention), safetycages, and energy-absorbing impact zones weredesigned into Volvo vehicles long before it wasfashionable or required by government regulation.
We will not compromise our commitment tosafety. We continue to seek out new safety fea-tures and to refine those already in our vehicles. You can help. We would appreciate hearing yoursuggestions about improving automobile safety. We also want to know if you ever have a safetyconcern with your vehicle. The reminder light varies depending on the vehi-cle's speed, driving time and distance driven.
A seat belt status graphic in the instrument panelindicates when the driver's or a passenger's seatbelt is buckled or unbuckled.
Child seats are not included in the seat beltreminder system.
Front seats
An audible signal and an indicator light remindunbuckled occupants to fasten their seat belts.
Rear seat
The rear seat belt reminder has two functions:
To indicate which seat belts are buckled inthe rear seats. This will also be displayed inan instrument panel graphic.
To provide audio and visual reminders if anyseat belt in the rear seat is removed whilethe vehicle is in motion. The reminder willstop when the seat belt has been rebuckled.
Door/hood/trunk lid and fuel filler door
reminder
If the hood, trunk lid, fuel filler door or any door isnot properly closed, this will be indicated by agraphic in the instrument panel. Stop the vehiclesafely and close the open door, hood, etc.
If the vehicle is moving at a speedunder approx. 10 km/h (6 mph), theinformation symbol will illuminate in theinstrument panel.

WARNING
Always refer to the child restraint manufactur-er's instructions for detailed information onsecuring the restraint.
WARNING
When not in use, keep the child restraintsystem secured or remove it from thepassenger compartment to help prevent itfrom injuring passengers in the event of asudden stop or collision.
A small child's head represents a consid-erable part of its total weight and its neckis still very weak. Volvo recommends thatchildren up to age 4 travel, properlyrestrained, facing rearward. In addition,Volvo recommends that children shouldride rearward facing, properly restrained,as long as possible.
Automatic Locking Retractor/
Emergency Locking Retractor (ALR/
ELR)
To make child seat installation easier, each seatbelt (except for the driver's belt) is equipped witha locking mechanism to help keep the seat belttaut.
When attaching the seat belt to a child seat:
1. Attach the seat belt to the child seat accord-ing to the child seat manufacturer's instruc-tions.
2. Pull the seat belt out as far as possible.
3. Insert the seat belt latch plate into the buckle(lock) in the usual way.
4. Release the seat belt and pull it taut aroundthe child seat.
A sound from the seat belt retractor will be audi-ble at this time and is normal. The belt will nowbe locked in place. This function is automaticallydisabled when the seat belt is unlocked and thebelt is fully retracted.
WARNING
Do not use child safety seats or child boostercushions/backrests in the front passenger'sseat. We also recommend that children whohave outgrown these devices sit in the rearseat with the seat belt properly fastened.
Child restraint registration and recalls
Child restraints could be recalled for safety rea-sons. You must register your child restraint to bereached in a recall. To stay informed about childsafety seat recalls, be sure to fill out and returnthe registration card that comes with new childrestraints.
Child restraint recall information is readily availa-ble in both the U.S. and Canada. For recall infor-mation in the U.S., call the U.S. Government'sAuto Safety Hotline at 1-800-424-9393 or go tohttp://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/register/childseat/index.cfm. Driving
Choose the Pure drive mode to help mini-mize electric power consumption.
Maintain a steady speed and a generous fol-lowing distance to traffic ahead to minimizebraking. This drive mode has the lowestpower consumption.
Balance energy requirements using theaccelerator pedal. Use the indicator on theinstrument panel to see available electricpower and avoid starting the combustionengine unnecessarily. The electric motor ismore effective than the combustion engine, especially at low speeds.
When braking is necessary, brake gentlyusing the brake pedal. This will help rechargethe hybrid battery. A regenerative function isintegrated in the brake pedal and can beaugmented by the electric motor's brakingcapacity when the gear selector is in modeB.
Higher speeds increase energy consumption- air resistance increases with speed.
Activate the Hold function in the Functionview at high speeds when traveling fartherthan is possible using the hybrid battery'scapacity.
Whenever possible, avoid using the Chargefunction to charge the hybrid battery. Charg-ing the battery using the combustion engine
increases fuel consumption and carbon diox-ide emissions.
In a cold climate, reduce heating of the wind-shield/rear window, mirrors, seats and thesteering wheel.
Maintain the correct pressure in the tires andcheck pressure regularly.
The type of tires used could affect energyconsumption - consult a retailer for advice onsuitable tires.
Remove unnecessary items from the vehicle- the heavier the load, the higher the fuelconsumption.
Roof loads increase air resistance andincrease fuel consumption. Remove roofboxes, ski racks, etc. that are not in use.
Avoid driving with the windows open.
Do not keep the vehicle still on an upwardgradient by using the accelerator pedal. Usethe brakes instead.

Factors affecting electric motorrange
A number of factors affect the electric motor'sdriving range. The ability to achieve a long driv-ing range varies according to the outside condi-tions and to how the vehicle is driven.
The certified value for the distance that can bedriven using the electric motor should not beconsidered an expected driving range. The actualrange is dependent on a number of factors.
Factors affecting driving range
The driver can influence some factors affectingdriving range, but not all.
The longest range is achieved under very favora-ble conditions when all factors positively influ-ence range.
