Canceling the adjusted open posi tion of the back door (vehicles with a
power back door)
Press and hold the power back door switch on the back door unti l a buzzer
sounds 4 times, pauses momentarily, and then sounds 2 times. Th e open
position is initialized to the fully opened position.
■ When reconnecting the battery or changing a fuse while the back door is
open (vehicles with a power back door)
To enable the power back door to operate properly, initialize the system by
completely closing the back door manually. If the battery is re connected or a
fuse is changed while the back door is closed, initializing the system is not
necessary.
■ Customization (vehicles with a power back door)
Settings (e.g. power back door opening angle) can be changed.

■Before driving
● Make sure that the back door is fully closed. If the back door is not fully
closed, it may open unexpectedly while driving and hit near-by objects or
luggage in the luggage compartment may be thrown out, causing a n acci-
dent.
● Do not allow children to play in the luggage compartment.
If a child is accidentally locked in the luggage compartment, they could
have heat exhaustion or other injuries.
● Do not allow a child to open or close the back door.
Doing so may cause the back door to move unexpectedly, or cause the
child’s hands, head, or neck to be caught by the closing back d oor.
■ Important points while driving
Never let anyone sit in the luggage compartment. In the event of sudden
braking, sudden swerving or a collision, they are susceptible t o death or
serious injury.

■Before driving
● Make sure that the glass hatch is fully closed. If the glass ha tch is not fully
closed, it may open unexpectedly while driving and hit near-by objects or
luggage in the luggage compartment may be thrown out, causing a n acci-
dent.
● Do not allow a child to open or close the glass hatch.
Doing so may cause the glass hatch to move unexpectedly, or cau se the
child’s hands, head, or neck to be caught by the closing glass hatch.
■ Operating the glass hatch
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may cause parts of the body to be caught, resu lting in death
or serious injury.
● Remove any heavy loads, such as snow and ice, from the glass ha tch
before opening it. Failure to do so may cause the glass hatch t o suddenly
shut again after it is opened.
● When opening or closing the glass hatch, thoroughly check to ma ke sure
the surrounding area is safe.
● If anyone is in the vicinity, make sure they are safe and let t hem know that
the glass hatch is about to open or close.
● Use caution when opening or closing the glass hatch in windy we ather as
it may move abruptly in strong wind.

■When folding the rear seatbacks down
Observe the following precautions. Failure to do so may result in death or
serious injury.
● Do not fold the seatbacks down while driving.
● Stop the vehicle on level ground, set the parking brake and shi ft the shift
lever to P.
● Do not allow anyone to sit on a folded seatback or in the lugga ge compart-
ment while driving.
● Do not allow children to enter the luggage compartment.
● Do not fold down a rear seatback when there are passengers sitt ing in the
rear seats or when there is luggage placed on the rear seats.
● Be careful not to catch your hand when folding the rear seatbac ks.
■ Seat adjustment
● To reduce the risk of sliding under the lap belt during a colli sion, do not
recline the seat more than necessary.
If the seat is too reclined, the lap belt may slide past the hi ps and apply
restraint forces directly to the abdomen, or your neck may cont act the
shoulder belt, increasing the risk of death or serious injury i n the event of
an accident.
Adjustments should not be made while driving as the seat may un expect-
edly move and cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
● Be careful that the seat does not hit passengers or luggage.
● Be careful not to get your hands or feet caught in the seat.
■ After adjusting or returning the seats
Observe the following precautions. Failure to do so may result in death or
serious injury.
● Make sure that the seat and seatback are securely locked in position by
lightly rocking them back and forth.
● Check that the seat belts are not twisted or caught in the seat back.

The engine switch is in IGNITION ON mode.
■ Operating the power windows after turning the engine off
Vehicles without a smart key system
The power windows can be operated for approximately 45 seconds even
after the engine switch is turned to the “ACC” or “LOCK” positi on. They can-
not, however, be operated once either front door is opened.
Vehicles with a smart key system
The power windows can be operated for approximately 45 seconds even
after the engine switch is turned to ACCESSORY mode or turned o ff. They
cannot, however, be operated once either front door is opened.
■ Jam protection function (windows with one-touch closing functio n only)
If an object becomes caught between the window and the window f rame, win-
dow travel is stopped and the window is opened slightly.

■Closing the windows
● The driver is responsible for all the power window operations, including the
operation for the passengers. In order to prevent accidental op eration,
especially by a child, do not let a child operate the power win dows. It is
possible for children and other passengers to have body parts c aught in
the power window. Also, when riding with a child, it is recomme nded to use
the window lock switch. ( P. 179)
● Check to make sure that all passengers do not have any part of their body
in a position where it could be caught when a window is being o perated.
● When using the wireless remote control, key or mechanical key and oper-
ating the power windows, operate the power window after checkin g to
make sure that there is no possibility of any passenger having any of their
body parts caught in the window. Also do not let a child operat e window by
the wireless remote control, key or mechanical key. It is possi ble for chil-
dren and other passengers to get caught in the power window.
● When exiting the vehicle, turn the engine switch off, carry the key and exit
the vehicle along with the child. There may be accidental operation, due to
mischief, etc., that may possibly lead to an accident.
■ Jam protection function (windows with one-touch closing functio n
only)
● Never use any part of your body to intentionally activate the j am protection
function.
● The jam protection function may not work if something gets caught just
before the window fully closes.

Moon roof open warning buzzer
A buzzer sounds and a message is shown on the multi-information display in
the instrument cluster when the engine switch is turned off and the driver’s
door is opened with the moon roof open.
■ Customization
Settings (e.g. linked door lock operation) can be changed.

■Opening the moon roof
● Do not allow any passengers to put their hands or heads outside the vehi-
cle while it is moving.
● Do not sit on top of the moon roof.
■ Closing the moon roof
● The driver is responsible for moon roof opening and closing ope rations.
In order to prevent accidental operation, especially by a child , do not let a
child operate the moon roof. It is possible for children and ot her passen-
gers to have body parts caught in the moon roof.
● Check to make sure that all passengers do not have any part of their bod-
ies in a position where they could be caught when the moon roof is being
operated.
● When using the wireless remote control, key or mechanical key and oper-
ating the moon roof, operate the moon roof after checking to ma ke sure
that there is no possibility of any passenger having any of the ir body parts
caught in the moon roof. Also, do not let a child operate moon roof by the
wireless remote control, key or mechanical key. It is possible for children
and other passengers to get caught in the moon roof.
● When exiting the vehicle, turn the engine switch off, carry the key and exit
the vehicle along with the child. There may be accidental operation, due to
mischief, etc., that may possibly lead to an accident.
■ Jam protection function

■When installing/stowin g the luggage cover
Make sure that the luggage cover is securely installed/stowed. Failure to do
so may result in serious injury in the event of sudden braking or a collision.
■ Caution for the luggage cover
● Do not place anything on the luggage cover to avoid death or serious
injury.
● Do not allow children to climb on the luggage cover. Climbing o n the lug-
gage cover could result in damage to the luggage cover, possibl y causing
death or serious injury to the child.
■ When extending the luggage cover unit
Do not point the luggage cover unit at your face or body, as do ing so may
cause injuries if the cover ends extend suddenly.
NOTICE
■ When using the luggage cover
● Do not put heavy items on the luggage cover.
●Install the cover unit in the correct direc-
tion so that the lock release button
faces upward.

After recharging/reconnecting the battery (vehicles with a smar t key sys-
tem)
The engine may not start. Follow the procedure below to initial ize the system.
Shift the shift lever to P.
Open and close any of the doors.
Restart the engine.
● Unlocking the doors using the smart key system may not be possi ble imme-
diately after reconnecting the battery. If this happens, use the wireless
remote control or the mechanical key to lock/unlock the doors.
● Start the engine with the engine switch in ACCESSORY mode. The engine
may not start with the engine switch turned off. However, the e ngine will
operate normally from the second attempt.
● The engine switch mode is recorded by the vehicle. If the batte ry is discon-
nected and reconnected, the vehicle will return the engine swit ch mode to
the status it was in before the battery was disconnected. Make sure to turn
off the engine before disconnecting the battery. Take extra car e when con-
necting the battery if the engine switch mode prior to the batt ery being dis-
connected is unknown.
If the system will not start even after multiple attempts, contact your Toyota
dealer.
WARNING
■ Chemicals in the battery
Batteries contain poisonous and corrosive sulfuric acid and may produce
hydrogen gas which is flammable and explosive. To reduce the ri sk of death
or serious injury, take the following precautions while working on or near the
battery:
● Do not cause sparks by touching the battery terminals with tool s.
● Do not smoke or light a match near the battery.
● Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothes.
● Never inhale or swallow electrolyte.
● Wear protective safety glasses when working near the battery.
● Keep children away from the battery.
