ulated gasoline. Prop-
erly blended reformul
ated gasoline has no
adverse effect on vehicle performance or the durability of the engine and the fuel system. MMT is a manganese-containing metallic additive that is blende
d into some gasolines
to increase the octa
ne number. Mitsubishi
Motors Corporation recommends using gaso- lines without MMT. Use of gasolines blended with MMT mayadversely affect performance, and cause the malfunction indicator on your instrument panel to come on. If this happens, contact anauthorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your
choice for assistance.

isfy California’s low-emission regulations based on clean-burning low-sulfur gasoline.Gasoline sold in parts of the country other than California is allowed to have a higher sulfur content. Using such gasoline couldadversely affect the ve

its, thereby returning the engine to a normal condition. Be sure
to use a Mitsubishi
Motors Genuine cleani
ng additive. Using an
unsuitable additive could make an engine malfunction. For details,

Filling the fuel tank

4. Fueling correctly depends mainly on cor- rect handling of the fuel filler nozzle. Donot tilt the nozzle. Insert the nozzle in the fuel tank filler port as far as it goes.
5. When the nozzle stops automatically, do not add more fuel. 6. To re-install, turn the fuel tank filler pipe cap slowly clockwise until you hear click- ing sounds, then gently push the fuel tankfiller door closed.

tion and vehicle stabil-
ity by controlling the fr

driving torque using
the electronic control
coupling in the rear differential assembly.
Select the drive mode from the following three types to suit the driving conditions. 4-wheel drive operation requires special driv- ing skills.
Carefully read the “4-wheel drive operation” section on page 5-87 and take care to drivesafely.

The drive mode can be switched by pressingthe drive mode switch while the ignition is in the “ON” position or
the operation mode in
ON. If you press the switch, you can change the drive mode in the order of 4WD ECO, 4WDAUTO, 4WD LOCK, 4WD ECO.

4WD ECO
This is most fuel efficient modeNormal operation is 2WD, but 4WD will engage in the event of wheel slip.
4WD AUTO
All driving is in 4WD and the distribution of traction torque to each wheel is automatically controlled depending on the driving conditions.
4WD LOCK
This mode is for driving in slippery conditions, such as snow covered roads or on sand. Large traction torque is dis-tributed to the rear wheels to assist in getting out of slip- pery areas.

The disc brakes have an alarm that makes a metallic squeal when the brake pads have worn down enough to need service.If you hear this sound, have the brake pads replaced at an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice.

When the vehicle is stopped at traffic lightsetc., the vehicle can be
held stationary with
the brake auto hold system even if you release your foot from the brake pedal. When the accelerator pe
dal is depressed, the
brakes are released.
If the brake auto hold switch is pressed while all of the following c

system will change to the standby state and the indicator light (A) on the switch comeson.  The ignition switch or
the operation mode
in ON. The driver’s seat belt is fastened.  The driver’s door is closed.

Brake auto hold

WA R N I N G Do not overly rely on the brake auto hold system. On steep slope, depress the brakepedal firmly because the system may not hold the vehicle stationary. Never leave the vehicle while it is being stopped by the brake auto hold system. When leaving the vehicle, apply the park-ing brake and move th
e selector lever to
the “P” (PARK) position. Do not use brake auto hold system when driving on slippery roads. The system may not hold the vehicle stationary and couldresult in an accident. NOTE
 While operating the brake auto hold system, you may hear an operati
on noise to increase
braking force when the system detected the movement of the vehicl
e. This does not indi-
cate a malfunction.
