Because the front airbags and driver

The side airbag is designed to inflate only onthe side of the vehicle that is impacted, evenwith no passenger in the front seat.
The label shown here is attached to the seat- backs with a side airbag.
Curtain airbag system*
The curtain airbags are contained in the front
pillars and roof side rail. The curtain airbag is
designed to inflate only on the side of the ve- hicle that is impacted, even with no passen- ger in the front seat or rear seat.
Deployment of side airbags and
curtain airbags
The side airbags and curtain airbags ARE DESIGNED TO
DEPLOY when

:ARN,NGzThe side airbags and curtain airbags are
designed to supplement the driver and passenger seat belts in certain side im-
pacts. Seat belts should always be worn properly, and the driver and passenger should sit well back and upright without
leaning against the window or door.
z The side airbags and curtain airbags in-
flate with great force. The driver and pas-
senger should not put their arms out the window, and should not lean against the
door, in order to reduce risk of serious or possible fatal injury from the deployingside airbags and curtain airbags.:ARN,NGz Do not allow any rear seat occupant to
hold onto the seatback of either front seat,
in order to reduce risk of injury from the deploying side airbags. Special care
should be taken with children.:ARN,NGz Do not place any objects near or in front
of the seatback of either front seat. They could interfere with proper side airbag in-flation, and also could cause injury ifthrown free by side airbag deployment.
z Do not place stickers, labels or additional
trim on the seatback of either front seat. They could interfere with proper side air-bag inflation.
z Do not install seat covers on seats with
side airbags. Do not re-cover seats that
have side airbags. This could interfere with proper side airbag inflation.
z Do not attach a microphone (A) or any
other device or object around the part where the curtain airbags (B) activate
such as on the windscreen, side door glass, front and rear pillars and roof side or as-
sist grips. When the curtain airbags in-
flate, the microphone or other device or object will be hurled with great force orthe curtain airbags may not activate cor-
rectly, resulting in death or serious injury.:ARN,NGz Do not put a hanger or any heavy or poin-
ted object on the coat hook. If the curtain
airbag was activated, any such item could
be propelled away with great force and could prevent the curtain airbag from in-
flating correctly. Hang clothes directly on the coat hook (without using a hanger). Make sure there are no heavy or sharp
objects in the pockets of clothes that you hang on the coat hook.
z Never install a rearward facing child re-
straint in the front passenger seat. A for-
ward facing child restraint should be used
in the rear seat whenever possible. If a forward facing child restraint must be
used in the front passenger seat, adjust the seat to the most rearward position,
and ensure that the child stays in the child restraint and away from the door.
z Do not allow a child to lean against or
close to the front door even if the child is seated in a child restraint system.

The system checks itself every time the igni-
tion switch is turned to the “ON” position or the operation mode is put in ON. The SRSwarning lamp will come on for several sec-
onds and then go out. This is normal and
means the system is working properly.
If there is a problem involving one or more of
the SRS components, the warning lamp will come on and stay on. At the same time, thewarning display will appear on the informa-
tion screen in the multi-information display.
The SRS warning lamp/display is shared by
the SRS airbag and the seat belt pretensioner system.:ARN,NGz If any of the following conditions occur,
there may be a problem with the SRS air-
bags and/or seat belt pretensioners, and they may not function properly in a colli-
sion or may suddenly activate without a
collision:

NOTEzWhen you transfer ownership of the vehicle
to some other person, we urge you to alert
the new owner that it is equipped with the SRS and refer the new owner to the applica- ble section in this owner

Tachometer
The tachometer indicates the engine speed
(r/min). The tachometer helps you to obtain
more economical driving and also warns you
of excessive engine speeds (Red zone).
CAUT,ONz When driving, watch the tachometer to make
sure that the engine speed indication does not rise into the red zone (excessive enginerpm).Daytime dipper button (meter
illumination control)
Each time you press this button, there is a
sound and the brightness of the instruments
changes.
NOTEz You can adjust to 8 different levels for when
the position lamps are illuminated and 8 for
when they are not.
z When the lamp switch is in a position other
than the “OFF” position, the meter illumina-
tion switches automatically to the adjusted brightness, depending on the brightness out- side the vehicle.
z The brightness level of the instruments is
stored when the ignition switch is turned to
the “LOCK” position or the operation mode is put in OFF.
z If you press and hold the button for longer
than about 1 second when the position lamps
are illuminated, the brightness level changes to the maximum level. Pressing and holding the button for longer than about 1 second
again returns the brightness level to the pre- vious level.
