XTurn the mechanical key counter-clockwiseas far as it will go to positionG.The door is unlocked.
XTurn the mechanical key back and removeit.
XInsert mechanical key into the SmartKey(Ypage 72).
Locking the vehicle (mechanical key)
If the vehicle can no longer be locked with theSmartKey or KEYLESS-GO, use the mechanicalkey.
XOpen the driver's door.
XClose the front-passenger door, the reardoors and the tailgate.
XPress the locking button on the driver’s door(Ypage 75).
XCheck whether the locking knobs on thefront-passenger door and the rear doors arestill visible. Press down the locking knobs byhand, if necessary.
XClose the driver's door.
XTake the mechanical key out of the Smart-Key (Ypage 71).
XInsert the mechanical key into the lock ofthe driver's door as far as it will go.
XTurn the mechanical key clockwise as far asit will go to positionG.
XTurn the mechanical key back and removeit.
XMake sure that the doors and the tailgateare locked.
XInsert mechanical key into the SmartKey(Ypage 72).
iIf you lock the vehicle as described above,the fuel filler flap is not locked. The anti-theft alarm system is not armed.

Operation
XTo open/close:kick your foot into sensordetection zoneCbelow the bumper.Two warning tones sound while the tailgateis opening or closing.
XIf the tailgate does not open/close afterseveral attempts:wait at least ten sec-onds, using your foot kick under the bumperagain.
If you hold your foot under the bumper for toolong, the tailgate does not open or close.Repeat the leg movement more quickly if thisoccurs.
To stop the opening or closing procedure:
Rkick with your foot into sensor detectionrangeCunder the bumper, or
Rpull the handle on the outside of the tail-gate, or
Rpress the closing button on the tailgate, or
Rpress theTbutton on the SmartKey
If the tailgate closing procedure has beenstopped:
Rkick your foot under the bumper again andthe tailgate will open.
If the tailgate opening procedure has beenstopped:
Rkick your foot under the bumper again andthe tailgate will close.

You can open the trunk lid from inside thevehicle with the emergency release button.

The trunk lid can be unlocked and opened withthe trunk lid emergency release when the vehi-cle is stationary or while driving.
The trunk lid emergency release does not openthe trunk lid if the battery is disconnected ordischarged.

window again.

If children operate the side windows they

Activate the override feature for the rear
side windows. When leaving the vehicle,
always take the SmartKey with you and lock
the vehicle. Never leave children unsuper-

The side windows are equipped with an auto-matic reversing feature. If a solid object blocks

In the following section, the term "sliding sun-roof" refers to the panorama roof with powertilt/sliding panel.
GWARNING
While opening and closing the sliding sun-
roof, body parts in close proximity could
become trapped. There is a risk of injury.
Make sure that no body parts are in close
proximity during the opening and closing
procedures.
If somebody becomes trapped:
Rrelease the switch immediately, or
Rduring automatic operation, push the
switch briefly in any direction
The opening or closing procedure will be
stopped.
GWARNING
If children operate the sliding sunroof they
could become trapped, particularly if they
are left unsupervised. There is a risk of
injury.
When leaving the vehicle, always take the
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle.
Never leave children unsupervised in the
vehicle.
GWARNING
At high speeds the raised sliding sunroof
automatically lowers slightly at the rear. This
could trap you or other persons. There is a
risk of injury. Make sure that nobody rea-
ches into the sweep of the sliding sunroof
whilst the vehicle is in motion.
If somebody becomes trapped, immediately
pull back the sliding sunroof switch. The
sliding sunroof lifts during opening.

Adjusting the steering wheel

Memory function

If you use the memory function on the driv-
er's side while driving, you could lose con-
trol of the vehicle as a result of the adjust-
ments being made. There is a risk of an acci-
dent.
Only use the memory function on the driv-
er's side when the vehicle is stationary.

When the memory function adjusts the seat,
you and other vehicle occupants – particu-
larly children – could become trapped. There
is a risk of injury.
While the memory function is making adjust-
ments, make sure that no one has any body
parts in the sweep of the seat. If somebody
becomes trapped, immediately release the
memory function position button. The
adjustment process is stopped.

vate the memory function, particularly when
unattended. There is a risk of injury.

Storing settings
With the memory function, you can store up tothree different settings, e.g. for three differentpeople.
The following settings are stored as a singlememory preset:
RSeat and backrest position
RDriver's side: position of the exterior mirrorson the driver's and front-passenger sides
XAdjust the seat (Ypage 94).
XAdjust the exterior mirror on the driver'sside (Ypage 98).
XBriefly press theMmemory button and thenpress preset position button1,2or3withinthree seconds.The settings are stored in the selected pre-set position. A tone sounds when the set-tings have been completed.
Calling up a stored setting
XPress and hold the relevant preset positionbutton1,2or3until the seat and exteriormirrors are in the stored position.
iThe setting procedure is interrupted assoon as you release the storage positionbutton.

The engine can be switched off while the vehi-cle is in motion by pressing and holding theStart/Stop button for three seconds. Thisfunction operates independently of the ECOstart/stop automatic engine switch-off func-tion.

Removing the Start/Stop button
You can remove the Start/Stop button fromthe ignition lock and start the vehicle as nor-mal using the SmartKey.
You can only switch between Start/Stop but-ton mode and SmartKey operation when thevehicle is stationary.
You must also engage park position].
