XTurn capCcounter-clockwise and removeit.
XAdd engine oil.If the oil level is at or below the MIN markon the oil dipstick, add 1.1 US qt (1.0 liter)of engine oil.
XReplace capCon the filler neck and turnclockwise.Ensure that the cap locks into placesecurely.
XCheck the oil level again with the oil dipstick(Ypage 274).

Checking coolant level
GWARNING
The cooling system is pressurized, particu-
larly when the motor is warm. If you open
the cap, you could be scalded if hot coolant
sprays out. There is a risk of injury.
Let the engine cool down before you open
the cap. Wear protective gloves and protec-
tive eyewear when opening. Open the cap
slowly to release pressure.
!The coolant level must only be checkedand corrected when the engine has cooleddown (coolant temperature under 104 ‡(40 †). Checking the coolant level when thecoolant temperature is over 104 ‡ (40 †)can lead to damage to the engine or theengine cooling system.
XPark the vehicle on a level surface.
Only check the coolant level when the vehi-cle is on a level surface and the engine hascooled down.
XTurn the SmartKey to positionHin the igni-tion lock (Ypage 125).
XCheck the coolant temperature display inthe instrument cluster.The coolant temperature must be below104 ‡ (40 †).
XTurn the SmartKey to positionZ(Ypage 125) in the ignition lock .
XSlowly turn capCcounter-clockwise and torelieve excess pressure.

Resetting the ASSYST PLUS service
interval display
!If the ASSYST PLUS service interval dis-play has been inadvertently reset, this set-ting can be corrected at a qualified special-ist workshop.
Have service work carried out as describedin the Maintenance Booklet. This may other-wise lead to increased wear and damage tothe major assemblies or the vehicle.
A qualified specialist workshop, e.g. an author-ized Mercedes-Benz Center, will reset theASSYST PLUS service interval display after theservice work has been carried out. You canalso obtain further information on mainte-nance work, for example.
Special service requirements
The specified maintenance interval takes onlythe normal operation of the vehicle intoaccount. Under arduous operating conditionsor increased load on the vehicle, maintenancework must be carried out more frequently, forexample:
Rregular city driving with frequent intermedi-ate stops
Rif the vehicle is primarily used to travel shortdistances
Ruse in mountainous terrain or on poor roadsurfaces
Rif the engine is often left idling for long peri-ods
Rin particularly dusty conditions, or if air-recirculation mode is frequently used
In these or similar operating conditions, havethe interior filter, engine air cleaner, engine oil
and oil filter, for example, changed more fre-quently. Under arduous operating conditions,the tires must be checked more often. Furtherinformation can be obtained at a qualified spe-cialist workshop, e.g. an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center.

Do not scrub.
Do not touch the surfaces and films withhard objects, e.g. rings or ice scrapers. Oth-erwise, you may scratch or damage the sur-faces and films.
!Do not park your vehicle for a long periodof time directly after cleaning, particularlyafter cleaning the wheel rim with wheelcleaner. Wheel cleaner can lead to theincreased corrosion of the brake discs andpads. Therefore, drive for a few minutesafter cleaning. By heating up the brakes, thebrake discs and pads dry. The vehicle canthen be parked for a long period of time.
Regular care of your vehicle is a condition forretaining the quality in the long term.
Use care products and cleaning agents recom-mended and approved by Mercedes-Benz.

Maintenance and care

The wear patterns on the front and rear tiresdiffer, depending on the operating conditions.Rotate the wheels before a clear wear patternhas formed on the tires. Front tires typicallywear more on the shoulders and the rear tiresin the center.
On vehicles that have the same size front andrear wheels, you can rotate the wheels accord-ing to the intervals in the tire manufacturer'swarranty book in your vehicle documents. If nowarranty book is available, the tires should berotated every 3,000 to 6,000 miles (5,000 to10,000 km). Depending on tire wear, this maybe required earlier. Do not change the direc-tion of wheel rotation.
Clean the contact surfaces of the wheel andthe brake disc thoroughly every time a wheelis rotated. Check the tire pressure and, if nec-essary, restart the tire pressure loss warningsystem (Canada only) or the tire pressuremonitor (USA only).
Direction of rotation
Tires with a specified direction of rotation haveadditional benefits, e.g. if there is a risk ofhydroplaning. These advantages can only begained if the tires are installed correspondingto the direction of rotation.
An arrow on the sidewall of the tire indicatesits correct direction of rotation.
Storing wheels
Store wheels that are not being used in a cool,dry and preferably dark place. Protect the tiresfrom oil, grease, gasoline and diesel.

XStop the vehicle on solid, non-slippery andlevel ground.
XApply the electric parking brake manually.
XBring the front wheels into the straight-ahead position.
XShift the transmission to position].
XSwitch off the engine.

The coolant is a mixture of water and corro-sion inhibitor/antifreeze concentrate. It per-forms the following tasks:
Ranti-corrosion protection
Rantifreeze protection
Rraising the boiling point
If the coolant has antifreeze protection downto -35 ‡ (-37 †), the boiling point of the cool-ant during operation is approximately 266 ‡(130 †).
Theantifreeze concentrate/corrosion inhibitorconcentration in the engine cooling systemshould:
Rbe at least 50%. This will protect the enginecooling system against freezing down toapproximately -35 ‡(-37 †)
Rnot exceed 55% (antifreeze protection downto -49 ‡ [-45 †]). Otherwise, heat will notbe dissipated as effectively
Mercedes-Benz recommends a coolant or cor-rosion inhibitor/antifreeze concentrate inaccordance withMB Specifications for Service Products 310.1.
iWhen the vehicle is first delivered, it is fil-led with a coolant mixture that ensures ade-quate antifreeze and anti-corrosion protec-tion.
iThe coolant is checked with every mainte-nance interval at a qualified specialist work-shop.

Windshield washer system
Important safety notes
GWARNING
Windshield washer concentrate is highly
flammable. If windshield washer concentrate
gets onto hot components of the engine or
the exhaust system, it can ignite. There is a
risk of fire and injury.
Make sure that windshield washer concen-
trate is not spilled in the vicinity of the filler
neck.
!Only MB SummerFit and MB WinterFitwasher fluid should be mixed together. Thespray nozzles may otherwise becomeblocked.
Do not use distilled or de-ionized water. Other-wise, the level sensor may give a false reading.
When handling washer fluid, observe theimportant safety notes on service products(Ypage 334).
At temperatures above freezing:
XFill the washer fluid reservoir with a mixtureof water and windshield washer fluid, e.g.MB SummerFit.
Add 1 part MB SummerFit to 100 parts water.
At temperatures below freezing:
XFill the washer fluid reservoir with a mixtureof water and washer fluid, e.g. MB WinterFit.
For the correct mixing ratio refer to theinformation on the antifreeze reservoir.
iAdd windshield washer fluid, e.g. MB Sum-merFit or MB WinterFit, to the washer fluidall year round.
