Note:Be careful when opening or closingthe liftgate in a garage or other enclosedarea to avoid damaging the liftgate.
Note:This could damage the liftgate and itscomponents. Do not leave the liftgate openwhile driving.
From the Instrument Panel
With the transmission in park (P),press the button on the instrumentpanel.
Remote Control
Press the button twice within threeseconds.

Opening the Liftgate
1. Unlock the liftgate with the remotecontrol or power door unlock control. Ifan intelligent access key is within 3.3 ft(1 m) of the liftgate, the liftgate unlockswhen you press the liftgate releasebutton.
2. Press the liftgate release button hiddenabove the license plate.
Note:Allow the power system to open theliftgate. Manually pushing or pulling theliftgate may activate the system’s obstacledetection feature and stop the poweroperation or reverse its direction, replicatea strut failure, or damage mechanicalcomponents.
Stopping the Liftgate Movement
You can stop the liftgate movement by doingany of the following:
•Pressing the liftgate control button.
•Pressing the liftgate button on the remotecontrol twice.
•Pressing the liftgate button on theinstrument panel.
•Activating the obstacle detection feature.
Obstacle Detection
Closing
The system stops when it detects anobstacle. Three tones sound and the systemreverses to open. When you remove theobstacle, you can power close the liftgate.

SelectShift Automatic™ Transmission (If
Equipped)
Your vehicle is equipped with a SelectShiftAutomatic transmission. The SelectShiftAutomatic transmission gives you the abilityto change gears up or down (without aclutch) as desired.
In order to prevent the engine from runningat too low an RPM, which may cause it tostall, SelectShift still automatically makessome downshifts if it has determined thatyou have not downshifted in time. AlthoughSelectShift makes some downshifts for you,it still allows you to downshift at any time aslong as the SelectShift determines thatdamage will not be caused to the enginefrom over-revving.
Note:Engine damage may occur if youmaintain excessive engine revving withoutshifting.
SelectShift does not automatically upshift,even if the engine is approaching the RPMlimit. It must be shifted manually by pressingthe + button. Notice should be taken of theshift indicator lamp, which alerts you whento shift to make sure you achieve the highestlevel or efficiency and fuel economy.
If equipped with the toggle on the gearshiftlever, press the + toggle switch on the sideof the gearshift lever to activate SelectShift.
•Press the (+) button to upshift.
•Press the (-) button to downshift.
If equipped with steering wheel paddles,pull the + paddle on the steering wheel toactivate SelectShift.
•Pull the right paddle (+) to upshift.
•Pull the left paddle (–) to downshift.
SelectShift in drive (D):
•Provides a temporary manual mode forperforming more demanding maneuverswhere extra control of gear selection isrequired (for example, when towing orovertaking). This mode will hold aselected gear for a temporary period oftime dependent on driver inputs (forexample, steering or accelerator pedalinput).

SelectShift in sport (S):
•Provides a permanent manual gearselection where full control of gearselection is required.
To exit SelectShift mode shift thetransmission into another gear (for example,drive [D]).
Upshift to the recommended shift speedsaccording to the following chart:

The instrument cluster displays your currentlyselected gear. If a gear is requested but notavailable due to vehicle conditions (lowspeed, too high engine speed for requestedgear selection), the current gear will flashthree times.
Note:At full accelerator pedal travel, thetransmission automatically downshifts formaximum performance.
Note:In low traction conditions, you can pullaway in second gear using SelectShift. Toperform this operation, select drive (D) orsport (S) mode and press the + toggle (ifequipped) or pull the + paddle (if equipped)until 2 is displayed on the cluster. Yourvehicle is now ready to move in 2nd gear.
Brake-Shift Interlock
WARNING: Do not drive your vehicleuntil you verify that the brake lamps areworking.
WARNING: When doing thisprocedure, you need to take thetransmission out of park (P) which meansyour vehicle can roll freely. To avoidunwanted vehicle movement, always fullyapply the parking brake prior to doing thisprocedure. Use wheels chocks ifappropriate.
WARNING: If the parking brake isfully released, but the brake warning lampremains illuminated, the brakes may notbe working properly. Have your vehiclechecked as soon as possible.
Note:For some markets this feature will bedisabled.
Your vehicle is equipped with a brake-shiftinterlock feature that prevents moving thegearshift lever from park (P) when the ignitionis in the on position and the brake pedal isnot pressed.

Automatic Steering into Parking Space
Note:If vehicle speed exceeds 6 mph(9 km/h) or the maneuver is interrupted, forexample driver input is detected, the systemswitches off and you need to take full controlof your vehicle.
When you shift the transmission into reverse(R), with your hands off the steering wheeland nothing obstructing its movement, yourvehicle steers itself into the space. Thesystem displays instructions to move yourvehicle back and forth in the space.
When you think your vehicle has enoughspace in front and behind it, or you hear asolid tone from the parking aid (accompaniedby a touchscreen display message and achime), bring your vehicle to a complete stop.
When automatic steering is complete, thesystem displays a message and a chimesounds, indicating that the active park assistprocess is finished. You are responsible forchecking the parking job and making anynecessary corrections before leaving yourvehicle.
Deactivating the Park Assist Feature
Manually deactivate the system by:
•Pressing the active park assist buttonduring an active maneuver.
•Grabbing the steering wheel during anactive maneuver.
•Driving above approximately 22 mph(35 km/h) for 30 seconds during an activepark search.

Always use caution while reversing. Objectsin the red zone are closest to your vehicleand objects in the green zone are fartheraway. Objects are getting closer to yourvehicle as they move from the green zoneto the yellow or red zones. Use the side viewmirrors and rear view mirror to get bettercoverage on both sides and rear of thevehicle.
Manual Zoom
WARNING: When manual zoom ison, the full area behind your vehicle maynot show. Be aware of your surroundingswhen using the manual zoom feature.
Note:Manual zoom is only available whenthe transmission is in reverse (R).
Note:When you enable manual zoom, onlythe centerline is shown.
Manual zoom allows you to get a closer viewof an object behind your vehicle. Thezoomed image keeps the bumper in theimage to provide a reference. The zoomfeature is only active while the transmissionis in reverse (R).
Selectable settings for this feature are Zoomin (+) and Zoom out (-). Press the symbol inthe camera screen to change the view. Thedefault setting is Zoom OFF.
Camera System Settings
The rear view camera system settings canbe accessed through the display screen.See Settings (page 436).
Enhanced Park Aids or Park Pilot (IfEquipped)
The system provides an image of yourvehicle and the sensor zones in the displayscreen. The zones highlight green, yellowand red when the parking aid sensors detectan object in the coverage area.
Selectable settings for this feature are ONand OFF.

Note:When a vehicle passes quickly throughthe blind spot zone, typically fewer than twoseconds, the system does not trigger.
Using the System
The Blind Spot Information System turns onwhen you start the engine and you drive yourvehicle forward above 3 mph (5 km/h).
For automatic transmissions, the Blind SpotInformation System remains on while thetransmission is in drive (D). If shifted intoreverse (R) or park (P) the Blind SpotInformation System turns off. Once shiftedback into drive (D), the Blind Spot InformationSystem turns back on when you drive yourvehicle above 3 mph (5 km/h).
For manual transmissions, the Blind SpotInformation System is on for all gears exceptthe reverse (R).
Note:The Blind Spot Information Systemdoes not function in reverse (R) or park (P).
System Lights and Messages
The Blind Spot Information Systemilluminates an amber alert indicator in theoutside mirror on the side of your vehicle theapproaching vehicle is coming from.
The alert indicator dims when the systemdetects nighttime darkness.
System Sensor Blockage
The system uses radar sensors that arelocated behind the bumper fascia on eachside of your vehicle. Any dirt, mud and snowin front of the sensors and/or driving in heavyrain can cause system degradation. Also,other types of obstructions in front of thesensor can cause system degradation. Thisis referred to as a ‘blocked’ condition.
Note:Do not apply bumper stickers and/orrepair compound to these areas, this cancause degraded system performance.

TRANSPORTING THE VEHICLEIf you need to tow your vehicle, contact aprofessional towing service or, if you are amember of a roadside assistance program,your roadside assistance service provider.
We recommend the use of a wheel lift anddollies or flatbed equipment to tow yourvehicle. Do not tow with a slingbelt. LincolnMotor Company does not approve a slingbelttowing procedure. If you tow your vehicleincorrectly, or by any other means, vehicledamage may occur.
Lincoln Motor Company produces a towingmanual for all authorized tow truck operators.Have your tow truck operator refer to thismanual for proper hook-up and towingprocedures for your vehicle.
It is acceptable to have your front-wheeldrive vehicle towed from the front if usingproper wheel lift equipment to raise the frontwheels off the ground. When towing in thismanner, the rear wheels can remain on theground.
Front-wheel drive vehicles must have thefront wheels placed on a tow dolly whentowing your vehicle from the rear usingwheel lift equipment. This prevents damageto the transmission.
Towing an all-wheel drive vehicle requiresthat all wheels be off the ground, such asusing a wheel lift and dollies or flatbedequipment. This prevents damage to thetransmission, all-wheel drive system andvehicle.
