Non-operational conditions ofParking Distance Warning(Reverse) system
The Parking Distance Warning
(Reverse) system may not operate
normally when:
• Moisture is frozen to the sensor.
• Sensor is covered with foreign mat-
ter, such as snow or water, or the
sensor cover is blocked.
There is a possibility of the Parking
Distance Warning (Reverse) system
malfunction when:
• Driving on uneven road surfacessuch as unpaved roads, gravel,
bumps, or gradient.
• Objects generating excessive noise such as vehicle horns, loud motor-
cycle engines, or truck air brakes
can interfere with the sensor.
• Heavy rain or water spray is present.
• Wireless transmitters or mobile phones are present near the sensor.
• The sensor is covered with snow.
• Any non-factory equipment or acces- sories have been installed, or if the
vehicle bumper height or sensor
installation has been modified.
Detecting range may decrease when:
• Outside air temperature is extreme-ly hot or cold.
• Undetectable objects smaller than 1 m (40 inches) and narrower than
14 cm (6 inches) in diameter.
The following objects may not be
recognised by the sensor:
• Sharp or slim objects such asropes, chains or small poles.
• Objects, which tend to absorb sen- sor frequency such as clothes,
spongy material or snow.
Your new vehicle warranty does
not cover any accidents or dam-
age to the vehicle or injuries to
its occupants related to a
Parking Distance Warning

Detecting range may decrease when:
• Outside air temperature isextremely hot or cold.
• Undetectable objects smaller than 1 m and narrower than 14 cm in
diameter.
The following objects may not be
recognised by the sensor:
• Sharp or slim objects such asropes, chains or small poles.
• Objects, which tend to absorb sen- sor frequency such as clothes,
spongy material or snow.
Parking Distance Warning(Reverse/Forward) system precautions
• The Parking Distance Warning
(Reverse/Forward) system may not
sound consistently depending on
the speed and shapes of the
objects detected.
• The Parking Distance Warning (Reverse/Forward) system may
malfunction if the vehicle bumper
height or sensor installation has
been modified or damaged. Any
non-factory installed equipment or
accessories may also interfere with
the sensor performance.
• The sensor may not recognise objects less than 30 cm (11 in.)
from the sensor, or it may sense an
incorrect distance. Use caution.
• When the sensor is frozen or stained with snow, dirt, or water,
the sensor may be inoperative until
the stains are removed using a soft
cloth. • Do not push, scratch or strike the
sensor. Sensor damage could
occur.
• Do not spray the sensors or its sur- rounding area directly with a high
pressure washer. Shock applied
from high pressure water may
cause the device to not operate
normally.
Your new vehicle warranty does
not cover any accidents or dam-

• Maintain 4WD Auto mode when driving on roads in normal con-
ditions.
• When driving under normal road conditions (especially when cor-
nering) in 4WD Lock mode, a
driver may find minor mechani-
cal vibration or noise, which is
extremely normal phenomenon,
not a malfunction. When 4WD
Lock mode is released, such
noise or vibration will be imme-
diately gone. When the 4WD LOCK mode is
deactivated, a sensation may be
felt as the driving power is deliv-
ered entirely to the front wheels.
For safe 4WD operation
Before driving
• Make sure all passengers are
wearing seat belts.
• Sit upright and closer to the steer- ing wheel than usual. Adjust the
steering wheel to a position com-
fortable for you to drive.
Driving on snow-covered or icy
roads
• Start off slowly by applying theaccelerator pedal gently.
• Use snow tyres or tyre chains.
• Keep sufficient distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front
of you.
• Use engine braking during deceler- ation.
• Avoid speeding, rapid acceleration, sudden brake applications, and
sharp turns to prevent skids.
NOTICE
NOTICE
When driving on normal roads,
deactivate the 4WD LOCK mode
by pushing the 4WD LOCK but-
ton (4WD LOCK indicator light
goes off). Driving on normal
roads with the 4WD LOCK
mode, especially, when corner-
ing may cause mechanical
noise or vibration. The noise
and vibration will disappear
when the 4WD LOCK mode is
deactivated. Prolong driving
with the noise and vibration
may damage some parts of the
power train.
CAUTION
If 4WD warning light ( ) stays
on the instrument cluster, your
vehicle may have a malfunction
with the 4WD system. When the
4WD warning light ( ) illumi-
nates we recommend that the
vehicle be checked by a
HYUNDAI authorised repairer
as soon as possible.

Driving in sand or mud
• Maintain slow and constant speed.
• Use tyre chains driving in mud ifnecessary.
• Keep sufficient distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front
of you.
• Reduce vehicle speed and always check the road condition.
• Avoid speeding, rapid acceleration, sudden brake applications, and
sharp turns to prevent getting
stuck.
Driving up or down hills
• Driving uphill
- Before starting off, check if it ispossible to drive uphill.
- Drive as straight as possible.
• Driving downhill - Do not change gear whilst drivingdownhill. Select gear before driv-
ing downhill.
- Driveas slowly using engine brak- ing whilst driving downhill.
- Drive straight as possible.
When the vehicle is stuck in
snow, sand or mud, place a non-
slip material under the drive
wheels to provide traction OR
Slowly spin the wheels in for-
ward and reverse directions
which causes a rocking motion
that may free the vehicle.
However, avoid running the
engine continuously at high
rpm, doing so may damage the
4WD system.

Hazardous driving conditions
When hazardous driving elements
are encountered such as water,
snow, ice, mud and sand, take the
bellow suggestions:
• Drive cautiously and keep a longerbraking distance.
• Avoid abrupt braking or steering.
• When your vehicle is stuck in snow, mud, or sand, use the second
gear. Accelerate slowly to avoid
unnecessary wheel spinning.
• Put sand, rock salt, tyre chains or other non-slip materials under the
wheels to provide additional trac-
tion whilst being stuck in ice, snow,
or mud.
Rocking the vehicle
If it is necessary to rock the vehicle
to free it from snow, sand, or mud,
first turn the steering wheel right and
left to clear the area around your
front wheels. Then, shift back and
forth between R (Reverse) and a for-
ward gear.
Try to avoid spinning the wheels, and
do not race the engine.
To prevent transaxle wear, wait until
the wheels stop spinning before
shifting gears. Release the accelera-
tor pedal whilst shifting, and press
lightly on the accelerator pedal whilst
the transaxle is in gear. Slowly spin-
ning the wheels in forward and
reverse directions causes a rocking
motion that may free the vehicle.
SPECIAL DRIVING CONDITIONS
Downshifting with an automatic
transaxle whilst driving on slip-
pery surfaces can cause an
accident. The sudden change in
tyre speed could cause the
tyres to skid. Be careful when
downshifting on slippery sur-
WARNING
If the tyres spin at high speed
the tyres can explode, and you
or others may be injured. Do not
attempt this procedure if people
or objects are anywhere near
the vehicle.
The vehicle can overheat caus-
ing an engine compartment fire
or other damage. Spin the
wheels as little as possible and
avoid spinning the wheels at
speeds over 35 mph (56 km/h)
as indicated on the speedome-
ter.

The severe weather conditions of
winter quickly wear out tyres and
cause other problems. To minimise
winter driving problems, you should
take the following suggestions:

Snow tyres and tyre chains for the
national language (Bulgarian,
Hungarian, Icelandic, Polish) see the
Appendix, chapter I.
Snow or icy conditions
You need to keep sufficient distance
between your vehicle and the vehicle
in front of you.
Apply the brakes gently. Speeding,
rapid acceleration, sudden brake
applications, and sharp turns are
potentially very hazardous practices.
During deceleration, use engine
braking to the fullest extent. Sudden
brake applications on snowy or icy
roads may cause skids to occur.
To drive your vehicle in deep snow, it
may be necessary to use snow tyres
or to install tyre chains on your tyres.
Always carry emergency equipment.
Some of the items you may want to
carry include tyre chains, tow straps
or chains, a flashlight, emergency
flares, sand, a shovel, jumper cables,
a window scraper, gloves, ground
cloth, coveralls, a blanket, etc.
Snow tyres
If you mount snow tyres on your vehi-
cle, make sure to use radial tyres of
the same size and load range as the
original tyres. Mount snow tyres on
all four wheels to balance your vehi-
cle’s handling in all weather condi-
tions. The traction provided by snow
tyres on dry roads may not be as
high as your vehicle's original equip-
ment tyres. Check with the tyre deal-
er for maximum speed recommenda-
tions.
Information
Do not install studded tyres without
first checking local and municipal regu-
lations for possible restrictions against
their use.

WINTER DRIVING
Snow tyres should be equivalent
in size and type to the vehicle's
standard tyres. Otherwise, the
safety and handling of your vehi-
cle may be adversely affected.

Tyre chains
Since the sidewalls of radial tyres are
thinner than other types of tyres, they
may be damaged by mounting some
types of tyre chains on them.
Therefore, the use of snow tyres is
recommended instead of tyre chains.
Do not mount tyre chains on vehicles
equipped with aluminium wheels; if
unavoidable use a wire type chain. If
tyre chains must be used, use gen-
uine HYUNDAI parts and install the
tyre chain after reviewing the instruc-
tions provided with the tyre chains.
Damage to your vehicle caused by
improper tyre chain use is not cov-
ered by your vehicle manufacturer’s
warranty.
Information
• Install tyre chains on the front tyres.It should be noted that installing
tyre chains on the tyres will provide
a greater driving force, but will not
prevent side skids.
• Do not install studded tyres without first checking local and municipal
regulations for possible restrictions
against their use.

Chain Installation
When installing tyre chains, follow
the manufacturer's instructions and
mount them as tightly possible. Drive
slowly (less than 20 mph (30 km/h))
with chains installed. If you hear the
chains contacting the body or chas-
sis, stop and tighten them. If they still
make contact, slow down until the
noise stops. Remove the tyre chains
as soon as you begin driving on
cleared roads.
When mounting snow chains, park
the vehicle on level ground away
from traffic. Turn on the vehicle
Hazard Warning Flasher and place a
triangular emergency warning device
behind the vehicle (if available).
Always place the vehicle in P (Park),
apply the parking brake and turn off
the engine before installing snow
chains.When using tyre chains:
• Wrong size chains or improperly
installed chains can damage
your vehicle's brake lines, sus-
pension, body and wheels.
• Use SAE “S” class or wire chains.
• If you hear noise caused by chains contacting the body,
retighten the chain to prevent
contact with the vehicle body.
• To prevent body damage, retight- en the chains after driving 0.3~0.6
miles (0.5~1.0 km).
• Do not use tyre chains on vehi- cles equipped with aluminium
wheels. If unavoidable, use a
wire type chain.
• Use wire chains less than 15 mm (0.59 in) wide to prevent damage
to the chain’s connection.
Winter Precautions
Use high quality ethylene glycol
coolant
Your vehicle is delivered with high
quality ethylene glycol coolant in the
cooling system. It is the only type of
coolant that should be used because
it helps prevent corrosion in the cool-
ing system, lubricates the water
pump and prevents freezing. Be sure
to replace or replenish your coolant
in accordance with the maintenance
schedule. Before winter, have your
coolant tested to assure that its
freezing point is sufficient for the
temperatures anticipated during the
winter.
