Keyless Access Operation
The Keyless Access system allows
for the doors and trunk or liftgate to
be locked and unlocked without
pressing the RKE transmitter button.
The RKE transmitter must be within
1 m (3 ft) of the trunk/liftgate or door
being opened. There is a button on
the outside door handles.
Keyless Access can be
programmed to unlock all doors on
the first lock/unlock press from the
driver door. See Vehicle
Personalization 0139.
Keyless Unlocking/Locking from
the Driver Door
When the doors are locked and the
RKE transmitter is within range of
the door handle, pressing the lock/
unlock button on the driver door
handle will unlock the driver door. If the lock/unlock button is pressed
again within five seconds, the
passenger door will unlock.

Pressing the lock/unlock button will
cause the front doors to lock if any
of the following occur:
. It has been more than
five seconds since the first lock/
unlock button press.
. Two lock/unlock button presses
were used to unlock the front
doors.

.Either vehicle door has been
opened and the front doors are
now closed.
Keyless Unlocking/Locking from
the Passenger Door
When the doors are locked and the
RKE transmitter is within range of
the door handle, pressing the lock/
unlock button on the front
passenger door handle will unlock
the front doors. Pressing the lock/
unlock button will cause the front
doors to lock if any of the following
occur:
. The lock/unlock button was used
to unlock the front doors.
. Either vehicle door has been
opened and the front doors are
now closed.
Disable/Enable Keyless Unlocking
of Exterior Door Handles and
Trunk or Liftgate
If equipped, keyless unlocking of the
exterior door handles and trunk or
liftgate can be disabled and
enabled. Disabling Keyless Unlocking:
With the vehicle off, press and hold
QandKon the RKE transmitter at
the same time for approximately
three seconds. The turn signal
lamps will flash four times quickly to
indicate access is disabled. Using
any exterior handle to unlock the
doors or open the liftgate/trunk will
cause the turn signal lamps to flash
four times quickly, indicating access
is disabled. If disabled, disarm the
alarm system before starting the
vehicle.
Enabling Keyless Unlocking:
With the vehicle off, press and hold
QandKon the RKE transmitter at
the same time for approximately
three seconds. The turn signal
lamps will flash twice quickly to
indicate access is enabled.
Passive Locking
With Keyless Access, the vehicle
will lock several seconds after all
doors are closed if the vehicle is off
and at least one RKE transmitter
has been removed or none remain
in the vehicle. If other electronic devices interfere
with the RKE transmitter signal, the
vehicle may not detect the RKE
transmitter inside the vehicle.
If passive locking is enabled, the
doors may lock with the RKE
transmitter inside the vehicle. Do
not leave the RKE transmitter in an
unattended vehicle.

vehicle, see

Temporary Disable of Passive
Locking
Temporarily disable passive locking
by pressing and holdingKon the
interior door switch with a door open
for at least four seconds, or until
three chimes are heard. Passive
locking will then remain disabled
until
Qon the interior door is
pressed, or until the vehicle is
turned on.

Remote Left In Vehicle Alert
When the vehicle is turned off and
an RKE transmitter is left in the
vehicle, the horn will chirp three
times after all doors are closed. To
turn on or off seeVehicle
Personalization 0139.
Remote No Longer in Vehicle Alert
If the vehicle is on with a door open
and then all doors are closed, the
vehicle will check for RKE
transmitters inside. If an RKE
transmitter is not detected, the
Driver Information Center (DIC) will
display NO REMOTE DETECTED
and the horn will chirp three times.
This occurs only once each time the
vehicle is driven. To turn on or off
see Vehicle Personalization 0139.
Keyless Trunk Opening
Press the touch pad on the rear of
the trunk above the license plate to
open the trunk when the RKE
transmitter is within 1 m (3 ft). Key Access

Programming Transmitters to
the Vehicle
Only RKE transmitters programmed
to the vehicle will work. If a
transmitter is lost or stolen, a
replacement can be purchased and
programmed through your dealer.
The vehicle can be reprogrammed
so that lost or stolen transmitters no
longer work. Any remaining
transmitters will need to be
reprogrammed. Each vehicle can
have up to eight transmitters
matched to it.
Programming with Recognized
Transmitters
A new transmitter can be
programmed to the vehicle when
there are two recognized
transmitters. To program, the vehicle
must be off and all of the transmitters, both currently
recognized and new, must be
with you.
1. Place the two recognized
transmitters in the front
cupholder.
2. Remove the key lock cylinder cap on the driver door handle.
See Door Locks 042. Insert
the vehicle key of the new
transmitter into the key lock
cylinder on the outside of the
driver door and turn the key to
the unlock position five times
within 10 seconds.

The DIC displays READY FOR
REMOTE #2, 3, 4, or 5 etc.
3. Remove the recognized transmitters and place the new
transmitter into the cupholder.
4. Press ENGINE START/STOP. When the transmitter is
programmed, the DIC will show
that it is ready to program the
next transmitter.
5. Remove the transmitter from the cupholder and press
Kor
Qon the transmitter.
To program additional
transmitters, repeat Steps 3–5.
When all additional transmitters
are programmed, press and
hold ENGINE START/STOP for
12 seconds to exit
programming mode.
6. Return the vehicle key back into the transmitter. Programming without Recognized
Transmitters
If two currently recognized
transmitters are not available, follow
this procedure to program up to
eight transmitters. This feature is
not available in Canada. This
procedure will take approximately
30 minutes to complete. The vehicle
must be off and all of the
transmitters you wish to program
must be with you.
1. Remove the key lock cylinder cap on the driver door handle.
See Door Locks 042. Insert
the vehicle key of the
transmitter into the key lock
cylinder on the outside of the
driver door and turn the key to
the unlock position five times
within 10 seconds.
The DIC displays REMOTE
LEARN PENDING,
PLEASE WAIT. 2. Wait for 10 minutes until the
DIC displays PRESS ENGINE
START BUTTON TO LEARN
and then press ENGINE
START/STOP.
The DIC will again show
REMOTE LEARN PENDING,
PLEASE WAIT.
3. Repeat Step 2 two additional times. After the third time all
previously known transmitters
will no longer work with the
vehicle. Remaining transmitters
can be reprogrammed during
the next steps.
The DIC display should now
show READY FOR REMOTE
# 1.

4. Place the transmitter in thefront cupholder.
5. Press ENGINE START/STOP. When the transmitter is
programmed the DIC will show
that it is ready to program the
next transmitter.
6. Remove the transmitter from the cupholder and press
Kor
Qon the transmitter.
To program additional
transmitters, repeat Steps 4–6. When all additional transmitters
are programmed, press and
hold ENGINE START/STOP for
12 seconds to exit
programming mode.
7. Return the vehicle key back into the transmitter.
Starting the Vehicle with a Low
Transmitter Battery
If the transmitter battery is weak or if
there is interference with the signal
when trying to start the vehicle, the
DIC may display NO REMOTE
DETECTED or NO REMOTE KEY
WAS DETECTED PLACE KEY IN
TRANSMITTER POCKET THEN
START YOUR VEHICLE. The DIC
may also display REPLACE
BATTERY IN REMOTE KEY.
To start the vehicle:
1. Place the transmitter in the front cupholder.
2. With the vehicle in P (Park) or N (Neutral), press the brake
pedal and ENGINE START/
STOP. See Starting the Engine

Replace the transmitter battery
as soon as possible.

Battery Replacement
Replace the battery if the DIC
displays REPLACE BATTERY IN
REMOTE KEY.
Caution
When replacing the battery, do
not touch any of the circuitry on
the transmitter. Static from your
body could damage the
transmitter.
The battery is not rechargeable. To
replace the battery:
1. Press the button on the side of the transmitter near the bottom
and pull the key out.
2. Separate the two halves of the
transmitter using a flat tool
inserted into the area near the
key slot.
3. Remove the battery by pushingon the battery and sliding it
toward the bottom of the
transmitter.
4. Insert the new battery, positive side facing the back cover.
Push the battery down until it is
held in place. Replace with a
CR2032 or equivalent battery.
5. Snap the battery cover back on to the transmitter.

Remote Keyless Entry
(RKE) System Operation
(Key Access)
The transmitter functions may work
up to 60 m (197 ft) away from the
vehicle.
Other conditions, such as those
previously stated, can impact the
performance of the transmitter. See
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)
System031.
With Remote Start Similar
Q:Press to lock all doors. The turn signal indicators may flash
and/or the horn may sound on the
second press to indicate locking.

If the driver door is open when
Qis
pressed, all doors will lock and then
the driver door will immediately
unlock, if enabled. See Vehicle
Personalization 0139.
If the passenger door is open when
Qis pressed, all doors lock.

The RKE transmitter buttons will not
operate when the key is in the
ignition.
Programming Keys to the
Vehicle
Only keys programmed to the
vehicle will work. If a key is lost or
stolen, a replacement can be

purchased and programmed through
your dealer. The vehicle can be
reprogrammed so that lost or stolen
keys no longer work. Any remaining
keys will need to be reprogrammed.
Each vehicle can have up to eight
keys matched to it.
Programming with Two
Recognized Keys
This procedure is for adding a
transmitter, not replacing a
transmitter. To program:1. Insert the original, already programmed key in the ignition
and turn the ignition on.
2. Turn the ignition off, and remove the key.
3. Quickly, within five seconds, insert the second original
already programmed key in the
ignition and turn the ignition on.
4. Turn the ignition off, and remove the key.
5. Insert the new key to be programmed and turn the
ignition on within five seconds. The security light will turn off
once the key has been
programmed.
6. Repeat Steps 1–5 if additional keys are to be programmed.
If a key is lost or damaged, see your
dealer to have a new key made.
Programming without Two
Recognized Keys
Program a new key to the vehicle
when a recognized key is not
available. Canadian regulations
require that owners see their dealer.
If two currently recognized keys are
not available, follow this procedure
to program the first key.
This procedure will take
approximately 30 minutes to
complete for the first key. The
vehicle must be off and all of the
keys you wish to program must be
with you.
1. Insert the new vehicle key into the ignition.
2. Turn the ignition on. The security light will come on. 3. Wait 10 minutes until the
security light turns off.
4. Turn the ignition off.
5. Repeat Steps 2–4 two more times. After the third time, turn
the ignition on; the key is
programmed and all previously
known keys will no longer work
with the vehicle.
6. To program a second key, turn the ignition off, insert the
second key to be programmed,
and turn the ignition on.
After two keys are programmed,
remaining keys can be programmed
by following the procedure in
“Programming with Two
Recognized Keys.”
Battery Replacement
Replace the battery if the Driver
Information Center (DIC) displays
REPLACE BATTERY IN
REMOTE KEY.
