The heated rear window and door mirrors are used to quickly remove condensation and icefrom the glass.
It is possible to select whether rear window and door mirror heating should be automatically acti-vated or deactivated when the engine is started. With automatic start activated, heating will beactivated when there is a risk of ice or condensa-tion on the windows or mirrors. Heating is auto-matically switched off when the window or doormirror is sufficiently warm and the condensationor ice is gone. 1. Tap

Preconditioning
Preconditioning the vehicle before driving can help reduce wear and reduce energy consump-tion during a trip.
Preconditioning can be started immediately or started at a preset time using a timer. The function utilizes several of the vehicle's sys- tems:
• In cold weather, the high-voltage coolantheater (HVCH) heats the passenger com-partment to a comfortable temperature.
• In warm weather, air conditioning cools thepassenger compartment to a comfortabletemperature.
• The electrically heated steering wheel
* and
seats * can be activated.
• Heating for the windshield, rear window anddoor mirrors are automatically activated asneeded.
During preconditioning in a hot climate, conden-sation from the air conditions may drip under thevehicle. This is normal.
NOTE
Preconditioning is only available when the car is connected to an electrical outlet. A charg-ing post that is not always active, for examplebecause of a timer, can cause loss of functionfor preconditioning. If the car is not connected to an electrical socket it is still possible in a warm climate toachieve brief cooling of the passenger com-partment by direct starting preconditioning.
NOTE
During preconditioning of the passenger compartment, the vehicle works to reach acomfortable temperature and not the tem-perature set in the climate system.

The driver is responsible for ensuring that the vehicle maintains a suitable distancefrom such obstacles.
• The camera and radar sensors do nothave the capacity to detect all oncomingobjects and obstacles in traffic environ-ments, e.g. potholes, stationary obstaclesor objects that completely or partiallyblock the route.
• Pilot Assist does not "see" pedestrians, animals, etc.
• The recommended steering input is lim-ited in force, which means that it cannotalways help the driver to steer and keepthe vehicle within the lane.
• Pilot Assist is switched off if the powersteering is working with reduced power -e.g. during cooling due to overheating(see section "Speed-dependent steeringforce").
The driver can always correct or adjust steeringassistance provided by Pilot Assist by turning thesteering wheel to the desired position.
Steep roads and/or heavy loadsPilot Assist is primarily intended to be driven onflat roads. The function may not be able to main-tain the correct time interval to the vehicle aheadwhen driving down steep hills. The driver should be extra attentive and prepared to apply thebrakes.
• Do not use Pilot Assist if the vehicle is carry-ing a heavy load or towing a trailer.
NOTE
Pilot Assist cannot be activated if a trailer, bike carrier or similar is connected to thevehicle electrical system.
Other limitations
•
The Off Road drive mode cannot be
selected when Pilot Assist is activated.
NOTE
The function uses the vehicle's camera unit, which has some general limitations – see thesection "Camera unit limitations".

City Safety steering assistance forevasive maneuver City Safety steering assistance can help the driver steer away from vehicles or obstacleswhen a collision cannot be avoided by brakingalone.
Your vehicle swerves away
Slow-moving/stationary vehicle or obstacle.
City Safety helps provide assistance by strength- ening the driver's steering movements, but only ifthe driver has begun evasive action and the sys-tem detects that the driver's steering movementsare not sufficient to avoid a collision. The brake system is used simultaneously to fur- ther strengthen steering movements. The func-tion also helps stabilize the vehicle after it haspassed the obstacle. City Safety steering assistance can detect: •
vehicles
• cyclists
• pedestrians
• large animals
WARNING
• The possibility of City Safety predicting a certain situation is supplementary driversupport intended to improve driving safety– it cannot handle all situations in all traf-fic, weather and road conditions.
• City Safety is not a substitute for the driv-er's attention and judgment. The driver isalways responsible for ensuring the vehi-cle is driven in a safe manner, at theappropriate speed, with an appropriatedistance to other vehicles, and in accord-ance with current traffic rules and regula-tions.
Activating/deactivatingCity Safety's steering assistance is always activeand cannot be switched off.

Charging the hybrid battery In addition to the conventional fuel tank, your vehicle is also equipped with a rechargeablelithium-ion hybrid battery.
The hybrid battery can be recharged using the charging cable stored in a storage space in thecargo compartment.
WARNING
The hybrid electrical system in your vehicle uses high voltage electrical current. Any dam-age to this system or to the hybrid batterymay result in the danger of overheating, fire,or serious injury. If the vehicle is involved in acollision or subjected to flooding, fire, etc.,have it inspected by a trained and qualifiedVolvo service technician. Prior to this inspec-tion, the vehicle should be parked outdoors ata safe distance from any building or poten-tially flammable materials.
The hybrid battery's charging time depends on the charging current used.
NOTE
The capacity of the hybrid battery diminishes somewhat with age and use, which couldresult in increased use of the gasoline engineand consequently, slightly higher fuel con-sumption.
WARNING
If the hybrid battery needs to be replaced, this may only be done by Volvo retailer or author-ized Volvo workshop.
Charging cable handle and charging socket.
Charging status is indicated in three ways: • The indicator lights in the charging module (the unit connected to the wall outlet).
• Indicator light in the vehicle's chargingsocket.
• Images and text in the instrument panel.
The hybrid battery's charging process alsocharges the vehicle's start battery. If the hybrid battery's temperature is below -10 ºC (14 ºF) or above 40 ºC (104 ºF), some of
the vehicle's functions may be reduced or not available at all. The electric motor cannot be used if the battery'stemperature is too low or too high. If the PUREdrive mode is selected, the gasoline engine willstart.
Charging using the gasoline engine
The vehicle generates electrical current to charge the battery, e.g. when the driver lightly presses the brakepedal or when engine braking is used on downgrades.
The vehicle can also generate current to the hybrid battery to charge it.
• The hybrid battery can also be recharged bylightly depressing the brake pedal, i.e. duringlight braking. This converts the vehicle'skinetic energy to electrical energy, which isused to charge the hybrid battery.
• In gear position

Charging cable residual currentdevice The charging cable has a circuit breaker that helps protect against current overloads and ther-mal overheating.
If the charging cable's residual current device is triggered, the blue indicator light in the chargingmodule will not illuminate when the chargingcable is plugged into an electrical outlet (or thered warning light will glow steadily). Have the out-let checked by a licensed electrician or try usinganother wall outlet.
WARNING
Charging the hybrid battery may only be done from approved, grounded 120-/240 V outlets(AC, alternating current). If the electrical cir-cuit or electrical socket's capacity is notknown, let a licensed electrician inspect theelectrical circuit's capacity. Using a chargelevel that exceeds the electrical circuit's orelectrical outlet's capacity may start a fire ordamage the electrical circuit.
