234 The keyless system for locking/unlocking the doors, tailgate (Passive Entry
*) and fuel filler door
is available as an option. This system has a range in a semicircle with a radius of approximately1.5 meter (5 feet) out from the driver's door andapprox. 1 meter (3 feet) out from the tailgate. With keyless start in combination with keyless locking and unlocking, the remote key can belocated anywhere in the passenger compartmentor cargo compartment in order to start theengine. Each remote key supplied with the vehicle can be linked to a driver profile with unique settings forthe vehicle. When a key with a specific profile isused, the vehicle settings are adjusted accordingto that profile.
Buttonless key, Key TagFor vehicles equipped with keyless locking and unlocking *, a smaller, lighter and button-less key
(Key Tag 3
) is also provided. It works the same
way as the regular remote key as regard keyless start and keyless locking and unlocking 4
. It does
not have a detachable key blade and its battery cannot be replaced.
Remote key buttons
The remote key has four buttons, one on the left side and three on the right.
Locking - Press once to lock the doors,
tailgate and fuel filler door and arm the alarm. Press and hold to close all windows.
Unlocking - Press once to unlock the
doors, tailgate and fuel filler door and disarm the alarm. Press and hold to open all windows at the same time 5
.
Tailgate - Unlock and disarm the tailgate
only. On vehicles equipped with the power tailgate *, press and hold to automatically
open the tailgate. Press and hold to close an open tailgate (an audible warning signal will sound).
Panic alarm - Used to attract attention in
emergency situations. Press and hold the button for at least 3 seconds or press twicewithin 3 seconds to activate the turn signalsand horn. To deactivate, wait at least 5 sec-onds and press the button again. If no actionis taken, the panic alarm will deactivate auto-matically after 3 minutes.
WARNING
If anyone is left in the vehicle, make sure that power to the power windows and panoramic roof * is cut off by always taking the remote
key with you when you leave the vehicle.
NOTE
Be aware of the risk of locking the Key Tag in the vehicle. If the remote key/Key Tag is leftin the vehicle, it will be deactivated when thevehicle is locked and the alarm set usinganother valid key. The deactivated key will be reactivated when the vehicle is unlocked.

InterferenceElectromagnetic fields or obstructing objects may interfere with the remote key's functions for key- less start and keyless locking and unlocking *.
NOTE
Avoid storing the remote control key near metal objects or electronic devices, e.g. cellphones, tablets, laptops or chargers – pref-erably no closer than 10-15 cm (4-6 in.).
If you experience interference, use the remote key's detachable blade to unlock the vehicle andplace the remote key in the backup key reader inthe tunnel console cup holder to disarm thealarm.
NOTE
When the remote control key is placed in the cup holder, make sure that no other vehiclekeys, metal objects or electronic devices (e.g.cell phones, tablets, laptops or chargers) arefound in the cup holder. Multiple vehicle keysclose to each other in the cup holder can dis-rupt their functionality.

All doors, tailgate and fuel filler door can be locked and unlocked simultaneously using thebuttons on the remote key.

the tailgate are open, they will be locked and the alarm will be armed once they are closed.
NOTE

Unlocking with remote key
–Press the button on the remote key to
unlock.
Automatic relockingIf none of the doors or tailgate are opened within two minutes after being unlocked, they will auto-matically relock. This function reduces the risk ofinadvertently leaving the vehicle unlocked.
Remote key not working
NOTE
Move closer to the vehicle and try to unlock it again.
If the remote key is not working to lock or unlock the vehicle, its battery may be discharged. Usethe detachable key blade to lock/unlock the driv-er's door instead.

Several different sequences are available for
remote unlocking.

All Doors
- unlocks all doors at the same time.
•
Single Door
- unlocks the driver's door. Press the remote key unlock button twice to unlock all doors.

NOTE
The functions of the remote control key can be disrupted by ambient radio waves, build-ings, topographical conditions, etc. The vehi-cle can always be locked/unlocked using thekey blade.
If the remote key is removed from the vehicle
If the remote key is removed from the vehicle while the engine is running, the warning message

displayed in the instrument panel and an audible signal will sound when the last door is closed.
The message will disappear when the key is returned to the vehicle and the O button on the
right-side steering wheel keypad is pressed or when the last door is closed again.

Replacing the remote key's battery
The battery in the remote key must be replaced when it is discharged.
NOTE
All batteries have a limited service life and must eventually be replaced (does not applyfor Key Tag). The battery's service life variesdepending on how often the vehicle/key isused.
The remote key battery should be replaced if:
the information symbol illuminates and the message
Vehicle key bat. low

and/or
• the locks do not react after several attempts to lock or unlock the vehicle using theremote key within approx. 20 meter (65 feet)from the vehicle.

(the Key Tag) cannot be replaced. A new key can be ordered from an authorized Volvo workshop.
CAUTION
An end-of-life Key Tag must be turned in to an authorized Volvo workshop. The key mustbe deleted from the vehicle because it canstill be used to start the vehicle via backupstart.
Opening the key and replacing the battery
Hold the remote key with the front side
(with the Volvo logo) facing up and move the button on the key ring section to the right.Slide the front cover slightly upward.
The cover will loosen and can be
removed from the key.
Turn the key over, move the button to the
side and slide the rear cover slightly upward.
The cover will loosen and can be
removed from the key.

Use a screwdriver or similar object to turn the battery cover counterclockwise so the markers point to OPEN.
Remove the cover carefully by pressing e.g. a fingernail into the indentation. Pry the cover up.The battery's positive side ( +) faces upward.
Carefully pry out the battery as shown in the illustration.
CAUTION
Avoid touching new batteries and their con- tact surfaces with your fingers as this willimpair their function.
Insert a new battery with the positive side ( +)
facing upward. Do not touch the contact sur- faces of the remote key battery.
Place the edge of the battery downward
into the holder. Slide the battery forward until it locks into place under the two plasticcatches.
Press the battery downward until it locks
into place under the upper black plastic catch.
NOTE
Use batteries with the designation CR2032, 3 V.

NOTE
Volvo recommends that batteries used in the remote control key satisfy UN Manual of Testand Criteria, Part III, sub-section 38.3. Thefactory installed batteries and batteriesreplaced by an authorized Volvo workshopsatisfy the above criterion.
Replace the battery cover and turn it clock- wise until it points to CLOSE.
Put the rear cover back into position and
press it down until it clicks into place.
Slide the cover back.
> A second click indicates that the cover is correctly positioned and locked into place.
Turn the remote key over and press the
front cover down until it clicks into place.
Slide the cover back.
> An additional click indicates that the cover is correctly in place.
CAUTION
Be sure to dispose of end-of-life batteries in a way that protects the environment.
